1And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom back to Rehoboam.
1Прибувши Робоам в Ерусалим, скликав із дому Юдиного та Беняминового сто вісїмдесять тисяч добірнїх воінів, щоб воюватись з Ізраїлем і вернути царство Робоамові.
2But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying:
2Та було слово Господнє до Самея, чоловіка Божого, й сказано:
3'Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying:
3Скажи Робоамові Соломоненкові, цареві Юдейському й всьому Ізраїлеві з поколїнь Юдиного й Беняминового:
4Thus saith the LORD: Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren; return every man to his house, for this thing is of Me.' So they hearkened unto the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
4Так говорить Господь: Не йдїть і не починайте війни з вашими братами; вертайтесь кожний до дому свого, бо се сталось від мене. Вони послухали слів Господнїх і повертались з походу проти Еробоама.
5And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
5Робоам жив в Ерусалимі; він обвів міста в Юдеї мурами.
6He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
6Він укріпив Бетлеєм і Етам, і Текою,
7and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,
7І Бетзур, і Сохо, і Одоллам,
8and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
8І Гет, і Марешу, й Зиф,
9and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
9І Адораїм, і Лахис, і Азек,
10and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
10І Зору, й Аялон, і Геброн, що були в поколїннї Юдиному та Беняминовому.
11And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and oil and wine.
11І зміцнив він сї твердинї, й понастановляв у їх начальників і построїв комори на хлїб та олїї та вина.
12And in every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin adhered to him.
12І построїв в кожному містї доми на щити та списи, й зробив їх дуже міцними. І зістались при йому Юда та Бенямин.
13And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their border.
13І зібрались до його сьвященники та левіти, які були по всїй землї Ізраїлській, з усїх кінцїв,
14For the Levites left their open land and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem; for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office unto the LORD;
14Бо покидали левіти свої городські передмістя і свої посїлостї, і поприходили в Юдею та в Ерусалим, бо Еробоам і сини його відставили їх від сьвященницької служби Господеві.
15and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the satyrs, and for the calves which he had made.
15Та понастановляв у себе жерцїв і до висот, і до козлів, і до телцїв, які повиробляв.
16And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto the LORD, the God of their fathers.
16А слїдком за ними приходили в Ерусалим із усїх поколїнь Ізрайлевих такі, що справили серце своє, щоб шукати Господа, Бога Ізрайлевого, щоб тут приносити жертви Господеві, Богові батьків своїх.
17So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
17І зміцнили вони царство Юдине і піддержували Робоама Соломоненка три роки, бо ходили дорогою Давидовою та Соломоновою тільки три роки.
18And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
18І взяв собі Робоам за жінку Махалату Еримотівну, Давидового сина, і Абихаїлю, дочку Елїяба, сина Ессеєвого;
19and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
19І породила вона йому синів: Еуса й Шемарію, й Загама.
20And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
20Після неї взяв він Мааху Абессаломівну, а вона породила йому Абію, й Аттая й Зизу, й Шеломита.
21And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines — for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begot twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.
21І любив Робоам Мааху Абессаломівну більш усїх жінок та наліжниць своїх, — він бо мав вісїмнайцять жінок і шістьдесять наліжниць, і народилось йому двайцять вісїм синів та шістьдесять дочок.
22And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king.
22І поставив Робоам Абію, сина Маашиного, головою й князем над його братами, бо хотїв зробити його царем.
23And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city; and he gave them victual in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.
23І був запопадній, і розіслав усїх синів своїх по всїх країнах Юдиних та Беняминових у всї утверджені міста, й давав їм достатнє удержаннє й познаходив богато жінок.
