1And it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.
1此後， 亞捫 人的王 拿轄 死了，他兒子接續他作王。
2And David said: 'l will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.' So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
2大衛 說：「我要照 哈嫩 的父親 拿轄 厚待我的恩典厚待 哈嫩 。」於是 大衛 差遣使者為他喪父安慰他。 大衛 的臣僕到了 亞捫 人的境內見 哈嫩 ，要安慰他，
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?'
3但 亞捫 人的首領對 哈嫩 說：「 大衛 差人來安慰你，你想他是尊敬你父親嗎？他的臣僕來見你不是為詳察窺探、傾覆這地嗎？」
4So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their hips, and sent them away.
4哈嫩 便將 大衛 臣僕 的鬍鬚 剃去 一半 ，又割斷他們下半截的衣服，使他們露出下體，打發他們回去。
5Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'
5有人將臣僕所遇的事告訴 大衛 ，他就差人去迎接他們，因為他們甚覺羞恥；告訴他們說：「可以住在 耶利哥 ，等到鬍鬚長起再回來。」
6And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Aram-naharaim, and out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.
6亞捫 人知道 大衛 憎惡他們， 哈嫩 和 亞捫 人就打發人拿一千他連得銀子，從 美索不達米亞 、 亞蘭 、 瑪迦 、 瑣巴 雇戰車和馬兵，
7So they hired them thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people; who came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
7於是雇了三萬二千輛戰車和 瑪迦 王並他的軍兵；他們來安營在 米底巴 前。 亞捫 人也從他們的城裏出來，聚集交戰。
8And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
8大衛 聽見了，就差派 約押 統帶勇猛的全軍出去。
9And the children of Ammon came out and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.
9亞捫 人出來在城門前擺陣，所來的諸王另在郊野擺陣。
10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Arameans.
10約押 看見敵人在他前後擺陣，就從 以色列 軍中挑選精兵，使他們對着 亞蘭 人擺陣；
11And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
11其餘的兵交與他兄弟 亞比篩 ，對着 亞捫 人擺陣。
12And he said: 'If the Arameans be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
12約押 對 亞比篩 說：「 亞蘭 人若強過我，你就來幫助我； 亞捫 人若強過你，我就去幫助你。
13Be of good courage, and let us prove strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and the LORD do that which seemeth Him good.'
13我們都當剛強，為本國的民和上帝的城邑作大丈夫，願耶和華憑他的意旨而行。」
14So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle to meet the Arameans; and they fled before him.
14於是 約押 和跟隨他的人前進攻打 亞蘭 人； 亞蘭 人在 約押 面前逃跑。
15And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
15亞捫 人見 亞蘭 人逃跑，他們也在 約押 的兄弟 亞比篩 面前逃跑進城。 約押 就回 耶路撒冷 去了。
16And when the Arameans saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and brought out the Arameans that were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.
16亞蘭 人見自己被 以色列 人打敗，就打發使者將大河那邊的 亞蘭 人調來， 哈大利謝 的將軍 朔法 率領他們。
17And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Arameans, they fought with him.
17有人告訴 大衛 ，他就聚集 以色列 眾人過 約旦河 ，來到 亞蘭 人那裏，迎着他們擺陣。 大衛 既擺陣攻擊 亞蘭 人， 亞蘭 人就與他打仗。
18And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
18亞蘭 人在 以色列 人面前逃跑。 大衛 殺了 亞蘭 七千輛戰車 的人 ，四萬步兵，又殺了 亞蘭 的將軍 朔法 。
19And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and served him; neither would the Arameans help the children of Ammon any more.
19屬 哈大利謝 的諸王 見自己被 以色列 人打敗，就與 大衛 和好，歸服他。於是 亞蘭 人不敢再幫助 亞捫 人了。
