1私の子どもたちよ、あなたがたが罪を犯さないように、私はこれらのことを書きます。しかし、だれかが罪を犯しても、私たちには父のもとに弁護者 がおられます。義なる方、イエス・キリストです。
1My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. But if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the just:
2この方こそ、私たちの罪を贖ういけにえ です。私たちの罪だけでなく、全世界の罪のためのいけにえです。
2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
3その戒めを守っているなら、それによって私たちは、この方を知っていると分かります。
3And by this we know that we have known him, if we keep his commandments.
4「私はこの方を知っている」と言いながら、その戒めを守らない人は偽り者であり、その人のうちに真理はありません。
4He who saith that he knoweth him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5しかし、この方のことばを守る人のうちでは、神の愛がまことに全うされています。それによって、私たちがこの方のうちにいることが分かります。
5But he that keepeth his word, in him in very deed the charity of God is perfected; and by this we know that we are in him.
6この方のうちにとどまっていると言う人は、この方が歩まれたように、自らも歩むべきです。
6He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself also to walk, even as he walked.
7兄弟たち、私があなたがたに書いているのは、新しい戒めではなく、あなたがたが初めから持っていた古い戒めです。その古い戒めとは、あなたがたが初めから聞いていたことばです。
7Dearly beloved, I write not a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have heard.
8また、私はあなたがたに新しい戒めを書いています。この戒めは、この方においても、あなたがたにおいても真実です。闇は過ぎ去りつつあり、まことの光がすでに輝いているからです。
8Again a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true both in him and in you; because the darkness is passed, and the true light now shineth.
9光の中にいると言いながら自分の兄弟を憎む人は、今もなお闇の中にいます。
9He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10自分の兄弟を愛する人は光の中にとどまり、その人には、つまずきとなるものがありません。
10He that loveth his brother, abideth in the light, and there is no scandal in him.
11しかし、自分の兄弟を憎む人は闇の中にいて、闇の中を歩み、自分がどこへ行くのか分かりません。闇がその目をくらませたからです。
11But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth; because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12子どもたちよ、私があなたがたに書くのは、その御名のゆえに、あなたがたの罪が赦されているからです。
12I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13父たちよ、私があなたがたに書くのは、初めからおられる方をあなたがたが知っているからです。 若者たちよ、私があなたがたに書くのは、あなたがたが悪い者に打ち勝ったからです。 子どもたちよ、私があなたがたに書くのは、あなたがたが父を知っているからです。
13I write unto you, fathers, because you have known him, who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one.
14父たちよ、私があなたがたに書いたのは、初めからおられる方をあなたがたが知っているからです。 若者たちよ、私があなたがたに書いたのは、あなたがたが強く、神のことばがあなたがたのうちにとどまり、あなたがたが悪い者に打ち勝ったからです。
14I write unto you, babes, because you have known the Father. I write unto you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.
15世も、世にあるものも愛してはいけません。世を愛する人のうちには、父の愛がありません。
15Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.
16世にあるすべてのもの、すなわち肉の欲、目の欲、この世のものを誇る心は、父から出たものではなく、世から出たものだからです。
16For all that is in the world, is the concupiscence of the flesh, and the concupiscence of the eyes, and the pride of life, which is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17世とその欲は過ぎ去ります。しかし、神のみこころを行う人は永遠にとどまります。
17And the world passeth away, and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God, abideth for ever.
18子どもたちよ、今は終わりの時です。反キリストが来るとあなたがたが聞いていたとおり、今や多くの反キリストが現れています。このことによって、今が最後の時だと分かります。
18Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour.
19彼らは私たちのもとから出て行きましたが、私たちに属してはいませんでした。もし属していたなら、私たちとともにとどまっていたはずです。しかし彼らが出て行ったのは、そのだれも私たちに属していないことが明らかになるためでした。
19They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us; but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us.
20しかし、あなたがたは聖なる方から油を注がれており、皆、知識を持っています。
20But you have the unction from the Holy One, and know all things.
21私があなたがたに書いたのは、真理を知らないからではありません。あなたがたが真理を知り、また、どんな偽りも真理から出るものではないと知っているからです。
21I have not written to you as to them that know not the truth, but as to them that know it: and that no lie is of the truth.
22偽り者とは、イエスがキリストであることを否定する者のほかに、だれでしょう。この者こそ反キリスト、父と御子を否定する者です。
22Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denieth the Father, and the Son.
23御子を否定する者は、父を持っていません。御子を告白する者は、父をも持っています。
23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father. He that confesseth the Son, hath the Father also.
24ですから、あなたがたは、初めから聞いたことを自分のうちにとどめなさい。それがあなたがたのうちにとどまるなら、あなたがたも御子と父のうちにとどまります。
24As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning, abide in you. If that abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father.
25これこそ、この方が私たちに約束してくださったもの、永遠の命です。
25And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life everlasting.
26あなたがたを惑わそうとする者たちについて、私はこれらのことを書きました。
26These things have I written to you, concerning them that seduce you.
27あなたがたについて言えば、この方から受けた油注ぎがあなたがたのうちにとどまっているので、だれかに教えてもらう必要はありません。その油注ぎが、すべてのことについてあなたがたを教えます。それは真実であって、偽りではありません。それが教えたとおり、あなたがたはこの方のうちにとどまるでしょう。
27And as for you, let the unction, which you have received from him, abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you; but as his unction teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie. And as it hath taught you, abide in him.
28さあ、子どもたちよ、この方のうちにとどまりなさい。そうすれば、この方が現れるとき、私たちは確信を持ち、その来臨の時にも御前で恥じることがありません。
28And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded by him at his coming.
29この方が正しいと知っているなら、義を行う者は皆、この方から生まれたことも分かります。
29If you know, that he is just, know ye, that every one also, who doth justice, is born of him.
