1耶和華留下這幾族，為要試驗那不曾知道與 迦南 爭戰之事的 以色列 人，
1Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
2好叫 以色列 的後代又知道又學習未曾曉得的戰事。
2only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as beforetime knew nothing thereof;
3所 留下的 就是 非利士 的五個首領和一切 迦南 人、 西頓 人，並住 黎巴嫩山 的 希未 人，從 巴力‧黑們山 直到 哈馬口 。
3namely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Zidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entrance of Hamath.
4留 下 這幾族，為要試驗 以色列 人，知道他們肯聽從耶和華藉 摩西 吩咐他們列祖的誡命不肯。
4And they were there, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
5以色列 人竟住在 迦南 人、 赫 人、 亞摩利 人、 比利洗 人、 希未 人、 耶布斯 人中間，
5And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites;
6娶他們的女兒為妻，將自己的女兒嫁給他們的兒子，並事奉他們的神。
6and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
7以色列 人行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，忘記耶和華－他們的上帝，去事奉諸 巴力 和 亞舍拉 ，
7And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served the Baalim and the Asheroth.
8所以耶和華的怒氣向 以色列 人發作，就把他們交在 美索不達米亞 王 古珊‧利薩田 的手中。 以色列 人服事 古珊‧利薩田 八年。
8Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them over into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-naharaim; and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.
9以色列 人呼求耶和華的時候，耶和華就為他們興起一位拯救者救他們，就是 迦勒 兄弟 基納斯 的兒子 俄陀聶 。
9And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
10耶和華的靈降在他身上，他就作了 以色列 的士師，出去爭戰。耶和華將 美索不達米亞 王 古珊‧利薩田 交在他手中，他便勝了 古珊‧利薩田 。
10And the spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.
11於是國中太平四十年。 基納斯 的兒子 俄陀聶 死了。
11And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
12以色列 人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，耶和華就使 摩押 王 伊磯倫 強盛，攻擊 以色列 人。
12And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
13伊磯倫 招聚 亞捫 人和 亞瑪力 人，去攻打 以色列 人，佔據棕樹城。
13And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and smote Israel, and they possessed the city of palm-trees.
14於是 以色列 人服事 摩押 王 伊磯倫 十八年。
14And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
15以色列 人呼求耶和華的時候，耶和華就為他們興起一位拯救者，就是 便雅憫 人 基拉 的兒子 以笏 ；他是左手便利的。 以色列 人託他送禮物給 摩押 王 伊磯倫 。
15But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed; and the children of Israel sent a present by him unto Eglon the king of Moab.
16以笏 打了一把兩刃的劍，長一肘，帶在右腿上衣服裏面。
16And Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh.
17他將禮物獻給 摩押 王 伊磯倫 （原來 伊磯倫 極其肥胖）；
17And he offered the present unto Eglon king of Moab — now Eglon was a very fat man.
18以笏 獻完禮物，便將抬禮物的人打發走了，
18And when he had made an end of offering the present, he sent away the people that bore the present.
19自己卻從靠近 吉甲 鑿石之地回來，說：「王啊，我有一件機密事奏告你。」王說：「迴避吧！」於是左右侍立的人都退去了。
19But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said: 'I have a secret errand unto thee, O king.' And he said: 'Keep silence.' And all that stood by him went out from him.
20以笏 來到王面前；王獨自一人坐在涼樓上。 以笏 說：「我奉上帝的命報告你一件事。」王就從座位上站起來。
20And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting by himself alone in his cool upper chamber. And Ehud said: 'I have a message from God unto thee.' And he arose out of his seat.
21以笏 便伸左手，從右腿上拔出劍來，刺入王的肚腹，
21And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.
22連劍把都刺進去了。劍被肥肉夾住，他沒有從王的肚腹拔出來，且穿通了後身。
22And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, for he drew not the sword out of his belly; and it came out behind.
23以笏 就出到遊廊，將樓門盡都關鎖。
23Then Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and locked them.
24以笏 出來之後，王的僕人到了，看見樓門關鎖，就說：「他必是在樓上大解。」
24Now when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, behold, the doors of the upper chamber were locked; and they said: 'Surely he is covering his feet in the cabinet of the cool chamber.'
25他們等煩了，見仍不開樓門，就拿鑰匙開了，不料，他們的主人已死，倒在地上。
25And they tarried till they were ashamed; and, behold, he opened not the doors of the upper chamber; therefore they took the key, and opened them; and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.
26他們耽延的時候， 以笏 就逃跑了，經過鑿石之地，逃到 西伊拉 ；
26And Ehud escaped while they lingered, having passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirah.
27到了，就在 以法蓮 山地吹角。 以色列 人隨着他下了山地，他在前頭引路，
27And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a horn in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them.
28對他們說：「你們隨我來，因為耶和華已經把你們的仇敵 摩押 人交在你們手中。」於是他們跟着他下去，把守 約旦河 的渡口，不容 摩押 一人過去。
28And he said unto them: 'Follow after me; for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.' And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and suffered not a man to pass over.
29那時擊殺了 摩押 人約有一萬，都是強壯的勇士，沒有一人逃脫。
29And they smote of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valour; and there escaped not a man.
30這樣， 摩押 就被 以色列 人制伏了。國中太平八十年。
30So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.
31以笏 之後，有 亞拿 的兒子 珊迦 ，他用趕牛的棍子打死六百 非利士 人。他也救了 以色列 人。
31And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who smote of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad; and he also saved Israel.
