1耶和華的使者從 吉甲 上到 波金 ，對 以色列 人說：「我使你們從 埃及 上來，領你們到我向你們列祖起誓應許之地。我又說：『我永不廢棄與你們所立的約。
1And the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said: '...I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I swore unto your fathers; and I said: I will never break My covenant with you;
2你們也不可與這地的居民立約，要拆毀他們的祭壇。你們竟沒有聽從我的話！為何這樣行呢？』
2and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars; but ye have not hearkened unto My voice; what is this ye have done?
3因此我又說：『我必不將他們從你們面前趕出；他們必作你們肋下的 荊棘 。他們的神必作你們的網羅。』」
3Wherefore I also said: I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be unto you as snares, and their gods shall be a trap unto you.'
4耶和華的使者向 以色列 眾人說這話的時候，百姓就放聲而哭；
4And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spoke these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5於是給那地方起名叫 波金 。眾人在那裏向耶和華獻祭。
5And they called the name of that place Bochim; and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.
6從前 約書亞 打發 以色列 百姓去的時候，他們各歸自己的地業，佔據地土。
6Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
7約書亞 在世和 約書亞 死後，那些見耶和華為 以色列 人所行大事的長老還在的時候，百姓都事奉耶和華。
7And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD, that He had wrought for Israel.
8耶和華的僕人、 嫩 的兒子 約書亞 ，正一百一十歲就死了。
8And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old.
9以色列 人將他葬在他地業的境內，就是在 以法蓮 山地的 亭拿‧希烈 ，在 迦實山 的北邊。
9And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.
10那世代的人也都歸了自己的列祖。後來有別的世代興起，不知道耶和華，也不知道耶和華為 以色列 人所行的事。
10And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, that knew not the LORD, nor yet the work which He had wrought for Israel.
11以色列 人行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，去事奉諸 巴力 ，
11And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baalim.
12離棄了領他們出 埃及 地的耶和華－他們列祖的上帝，去叩拜別神，就是四圍列國的神，惹耶和華發怒；
12And they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples that were round about them, and worshipped them; and they provoked the LORD.
13並離棄耶和華，去事奉 巴力 和 亞斯她錄 。
13And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
14耶和華的怒氣向 以色列 人發作，就把他們交在搶奪他們的人手中，又將他們付與四圍仇敵的手中，甚至他們在仇敵面前再不能站立得住。
14And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and He gave them over into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
15他們無論往何處去，耶和華都以災禍攻擊他們，正如耶和華所說的話，又如耶和華向他們所起的誓；他們便極其困苦。
15Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had spoken, and as the LORD had sworn unto them; and they were sore distressed.
16耶和華興起士師，士師就拯救他們脫離搶奪他們人的手。
16And the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
17他們卻不聽從士師，竟隨從叩拜別神，行了邪淫，速速地偏離他們列祖所行的道，不如他們列祖順從耶和華的命令。
17And yet they hearkened not unto their judges, for they went astray after other gods, and worshipped them; they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not so.
18耶和華為他們興起士師，就與那士師同在。士師在世的一切日子，耶和華拯救他們脫離仇敵的手。他們因受欺壓擾害，就哀聲歎氣，所以耶和華後悔了。
18And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repented the LORD because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and crushed them.
19及至士師死後，他們就轉去行惡，比他們列祖更甚，去事奉叩拜別神，總不斷絕頑梗的惡行。
19But it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to worship them; they left nothing undone of their practices, nor of their stubborn way.
20於是耶和華的怒氣向 以色列 人發作。他說：「因這民違背我吩咐他們列祖所守的約，不聽從我的話，
20And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and He said: 'Because this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto My voice;
21所以 約書亞 死的時候所剩下的各族，我必不再從他們面前趕出，
21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died;
22為要藉此試驗 以色列 人，看他們肯照他們列祖謹守遵行我的道不肯。」
22that by them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.'
23這樣耶和華留下各族，不將他們速速趕出，也沒有交付 約書亞 的手。
23So the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered He them into the hand of Joshua.
