1“Ko ia ʻoku ou kole kiate koe ʻe Siope, fakafanongo ki heʻeku ngaahi fakamatala, mo ke tokanga ki heʻeku lea kotoa pē.
1Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech, and hearken to all my words.
2Vakai, kuo u faʻai eni ʻa hoku ngutu, kuo lea ʻa hoku ʻelelo ʻi hoku ngutu.
2Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3Te u lea au mei he totonu ʻo hoku loto: pea ʻe mahino ʻae ʻilo ʻe lea ʻaki ʻe hoku loungutu.
3My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart; and that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.
4Naʻe ngaohi au ʻe he Laumālie ʻoe ʻOtua, pea ko e mānava ʻoe Māfimafi kuo ne foaki ʻae moʻui kiate au.
4The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty given me life.
5Kapau te ke faʻa tali au, pea fokotuʻu hokohoko pe hoʻo ngaahi lea, tuʻu hake ʻi hoku ʻao.
5If thou canst, answer thou me, set thy words in order before me, stand forth.
6Vakai, ʻoku ou tatau mo koe ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua: kuo ngaohi foki au mei he ʻumea.
6Behold, I am toward God even as thou art; I also am formed out of the clay.
7ʻE ʻikai fakamanavahēʻi koe ʻe haʻaku fakailifia, pea ʻe ʻikai mamafa ʻa hoku nima kiate koe.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.
8“Ko e moʻoni kuo ke lea ʻi hoku telinga, pea kuo u ongoʻi ʻae leʻo ʻo hoʻo ngaahi lea, ʻo pehē,
8Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words;
9‘ʻOku ou maʻa taʻehaangahala, ʻoku ou māʻoniʻoni; pea ʻoku ʻikai ha hia ʻiate au.
9'I am clean, without transgression, I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me;
10Vakai, ʻoku ne kumi ʻae meʻa ke u kovi ai, ʻoku ne lauʻi au ko hono fili,
10Behold, He findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for His enemy;
11ʻOku ne ʻai hoku vaʻe ki he meʻa fakamaʻu vaʻe, ʻoku ne vakaiʻi ʻa hoku ʻalunga kotoa pē.’
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, He marketh all my paths.'
12“Vakai eni, ʻoku ʻikai te ke tonuhia: te u talia koe, he ʻoku lahi ʻae ʻOtua ki he tangata.
12Behold, I answer thee: In this thou art not right, that God is too great for man;
13He ko e hā ʻoku ke fai ai mo ia? Koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai fakahā ʻe ia ʻae ʻuhinga ʻo ʻene ngaahi ngāue.
13Why hast thou striven against Him? seeing that He will not answer any of his words.
14Ka ʻoku lea ʻae ʻOtua ʻo tuʻo taha, ʻio, ʻo tuʻo ua, ka ʻoku ʻikai tokangaʻi ia ʻe he tangata.
14For God speaketh in one way, yea in two, though man perceiveth it not.
15ʻI he misi, ʻi he meʻa hā mai ʻoe poʻuli, ʻi he tō ʻae mohe maʻu ki he kakai, ʻi he tulemohe ʻi he mohenga;
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16ʻOku ne toki fakaongo ʻae telinga ʻoe kakai, ʻo ne pulusi ʻa honau akonakiʻi,
16Then He openeth the ears of men, and by their chastisement sealeth the decree,
17Koeʻuhi ke ne taʻofi ʻae tangata mei heʻene ngāue ʻaʻana, pea fufū ʻae fielahi mei he tangata.
17That men may put away their purpose, and that He may hide pride from man;
18ʻOku ne taʻofi mai hono laumālie mei he luo, mo ʻene moʻui ke ʻoua naʻa ʻauha ʻi he heletā.
18That He may keep back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19Pea ʻoku ne tautea foki ia ʻaki ʻae mamahi ʻi hono mohenga, mo hono ngaahi hui ʻaki ʻae mamahi lahi:
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and all his bones grow stiff;
20Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ai ʻene moʻui ki he mā, mo hono laumālie ki he meʻakai ifo lelei.
20So that his life maketh him to abhor bread, and his soul dainty food.
21ʻOku fakaʻaʻau ʻo ʻosi ʻa hono kakano, ʻo ʻikai ʻiloa; pea ʻoku tuʻu mai hono ngaahi hui naʻe ʻikai hā mai.
21His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones corrode to unsightliness.
22ʻIo, ʻoku ʻunuʻunu atu hono laumālie ki he faʻitoka, mo ʻene moʻui ki he kau fakaʻauha.
22Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, and his life to the destroyers.
23“Kapau ʻe ʻiate ia ha faifekau, ko e fakamatala, ko e taha mei he toko taha afe, ke fakahā ki he tangata ʻene māʻoniʻoni:
23If there be for him an angel, an intercessor, one among a thousand, to vouch for a man's uprightness;
24ʻOku toki ʻaloʻofa ai ia kiate ia, ʻo ne pehē, “Fakamoʻui ia mei he ʻalu hifo ki he luo: kuo u ʻiloʻi ʻae huhuʻi.”
24Then He is gracious unto him, and saith: 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.'
25ʻE moʻui lelei hake hono sino ʻi ha tamasiʻi: ʻe toe foki ia ki he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo ʻene kei siʻi:
25His flesh is tenderer than a child's; he returneth to the days of his youth;
26ʻE lotu ia ki he ʻOtua, pea ʻe tokanga ia ki ai: pea ʻe mamata ia ki hono fofonga ʻi he fiefia: he te ne totongi ki he tangata ʻa ʻene māʻoniʻoni.
26He prayeth unto God, and He is favourable unto him; so that he seeth His face with joy; and He restoreth unto man his righteousness.
27ʻOku ne vakai ki he kakai, pea ka pehē ʻe ha taha, ‘Kuo u angahala, pea fakakehe ʻaia ʻoku totonu, pea kuo taʻeʻaonga ia kiate au;
27He cometh before men, and saith: 'I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not.'
28ʻE fakahaofi ʻe ia ʻa hono laumālie ke ʻoua naʻa ʻalu hifo ki he luo, pea ʻe mamata ʻene moʻui ki he maama.
28So He redeemeth his soul from going into the pit, and his life beholdeth the light.
29“Vakai, ʻoku faʻa fai ʻe he ʻOtua ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē koeʻuhi ko e tangata,
29Lo, all these things doth God work, twice, yea thrice, with a man,
30Ke ne toe ʻomi ai hono laumālie mei he luo, pea ne fakamaama ia ʻaki ʻae maama ʻoe moʻui.
30To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Tokanga, ʻe Siope, fakafanongo kiate au: ke ke longo pe, kau lea.
31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me; hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32Kapau ʻoku ai haʻo lea, tali mai: lea, he ko hoku loto ke ke tonuhia.
32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33Kapau ʻoku ʻikai, fakafanongo kiate au: ke ke longo pē, kau akonekina koe ke ke poto.
33If not, hearken thou unto me; hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.
