1شمعون پطرس، غلام و رسول عیسی مسیح، به آنانی که ایمان گرانبها را به مساوی مایافته‌اند، در عدالت خدای ما و عیسی مسیح نجات‌دهنده.
1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2فیض و سلامتی در معرفت خدا و خداوند ماعیسی بر شما افزون باد.
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3چنانکه قوت الهیه او همه‌چیزهایی را که برای حیات و دینداری لازم است، به ما عنایت فرموده است، به معرفت او که ما را به جلال وفضیلت خود دعوت نموده،
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4که بوساطت آنهاوعده های بینهایت عظیم و گرانبها به ما داده شد تاشما به اینها شریک طبیعت الهی گردید و ازفسادی که از شهوت در جهان است، خلاصی یابید.
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5و به همین جهت، کمال سعی نموده، درایمان خود فضیلت پیدا نمایید
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6و در فضیلت، علم و در علم، عفت و در عفت، صبر و در صبر، دینداری
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7و در دینداری، محبت برادران و درمحبت برادران، محبت را.
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8زیرا هرگاه اینها درشما یافت شود و بیفزاید، شما را نمی گذارد که درمعرفت خداوند ما عیسی مسیح کاهل یا بی‌ثمربوده باشید.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9زیرا هرکه اینها را ندارد، کور وکوتاه نظر است و تطیهر گناهان گذشته خود را فراموش کرده است.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10لهذا‌ای برادران بیشتر جد و جهد کنید تادعوت و برگزیدگی خود را ثابت نمایید زیرا اگرچنین کنید هرگز لغزش نخواهید خورد.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11وهمچنین دخول در ملکوت جاودانی خداوند ونجات‌دهنده ما عیسی مسیح به شما به دولتمندی داده خواهد شد.
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12لهذا از پیوسته یاد دادن شما از این امورغفلت نخواهم ورزید، هرچند آنها را می‌دانید ودر آن راستی که نزد شما است استوار هستید.
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them , and be established in the present truth.
13لکن این را صواب می‌دانم، مادامی که در این خیمه هستم، شما را به یاد آوری برانگیزانم.
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14چونکه می‌دانم که وقت بیرون کردن خیمه من نزدیک است، چنانکه خداوند ما عیسی مسیح نیزمرا آگاهانید.
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15و برای این نیز کوشش می‌کنم تاشما در هروقت بعد از رحلت من، بتوانید این اموررا یاد آورید.
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16زیرا که در‌پی افسانه های جعلی نرفتیم، چون از قوت و آمدن خداوند ما عیسی مسیح شما را اعلام دادیم، بلکه کبریایی او رادیده بودیم.
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17زیرا از خدای پدر اکرام و جلال یافت هنگامی که آوازی از جلال کبریایی به اورسید که «این است پسر حبیب من که از وی خشنودم.»
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18و این آواز را ما زمانی که با وی درکوه مقدس بودیم، شنیدیم که از آسمان آورده شد.
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19و کلام انبیا را نیز محکم تر داریم که نیکومی کنید اگر در آن اهتمام کنید، مثل چراغی درخشنده در مکان تاریک تا روز بشکافد و ستاره صبح در دلهای شما طلوع کند.
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20و این رانخست بدانید که هیچ نبوت کتاب از تفسیر خودنبی نیست.
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21زیرا که نبوت به اراده انسان هرگزآورده نشد، بلکه مردمان به روح‌القدس مجذوب شده، از جانب خدا سخن‌گفتند.
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
