1Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
1非利士 人招聚他們的軍旅，要來爭戰；聚集在屬 猶大 的 梭哥 ，安營在 梭哥 和 亞西加 中間的 以弗‧大憫 。
2And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched in the vale of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
2掃羅 和 以色列 人也聚集，在 以拉谷 安營，擺列隊伍，要與 非利士 人打仗。
3And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side; and there was a valley between them.
3非利士 人站在這邊山上， 以色列 人站在那邊山上，當中有谷。
4And there went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
4從 非利士 營中出來一個討戰的人，名叫 歌利亞 ，是 迦特 人，身高六肘零一虎口；
5And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
5頭戴銅盔，身穿鎧甲，甲重五千舍客勒；
6And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
6腿上有銅護膝，兩肩之中背負銅戟；
7And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him.
7槍桿粗如織布的機軸，鐵槍頭重六百舍客勒。有一個拿盾牌的人在他前面走。
8And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them: 'Why do ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
8歌利亞 對着 以色列 的軍隊站立，呼叫說：「你們出來擺列隊伍做甚麼呢？我不是 非利士 人嗎？你們不是 掃羅 的僕人嗎？可以從你們中間揀選一人，使他下到我這裏來。
9If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.'
9他若能與我戰鬥，將我殺死，我們就作你們的僕人；我若勝了他，將他殺死，你們就作我們的僕人，服事我們。」
10And the Philistine said: 'I do taunt the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.'
10那 非利士 人又說：「我今日向 以色列 人的軍隊罵陣。你們叫一個人出來，與我戰鬥。」
11And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
11掃羅 和 以色列 眾人聽見 非利士 人的這些話，就驚惶，極其害怕。
12Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons; and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.
12大衛 是 猶大 伯利恆 的 以法他 人 耶西 的兒子。 耶西 有八個兒子。當 掃羅 的時候， 耶西 已經老邁。
13And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
13耶西 的三個大兒子跟隨 掃羅 出征。這出征的三個兒子：長子名叫 以利押 ，次子名叫 亞比拿達 ，三子名叫 沙瑪 。
14And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul. —
14大衛 是最小的；那三個大兒子跟隨 掃羅 。
15Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth-lehem. —
15大衛 有時離開 掃羅 ，回 伯利恆 放他父親的羊。
16And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
16那 非利士 人早晚都出來站着，如此四十日。
17And Jesse said unto David his son: 'Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren.
17一日， 耶西 對他兒子 大衛 說：「你拿一伊法烘了的穗子和十個餅，速速地送到營裏去，交給你哥哥們；
18And bring these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and to thy brethren shalt thou bring greetings, and take their pledge;
18再拿這十塊奶餅，送給他們的千夫長，且問你哥哥們好，向他們要一封信來。」
19now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, are in the vale of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.'
19掃羅 與 大衛 的三個哥哥和 以色列 眾人，在 以拉谷 與 非利士 人打仗。
20And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the barricade, as the host which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
20大衛 早晨起來，將羊交託一個看守的人，照着他父親所吩咐的話，帶着食物去了。到了輜重營，軍兵剛出到戰場，吶喊要戰。
21And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
21以色列 人和 非利士 人都擺列隊伍，彼此相對。
22And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brethren.
22大衛 把他帶來的食物留在看守物件人的手下，跑到戰場，問他哥哥們安。
23And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words; and David heard them.
23與他們說話的時候，那討戰的，就是屬 迦特 的 非利士 人 歌利亞 ，從 非利士 隊中出來，說從前所說的話； 大衛 都聽見了。
24And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
24以色列 眾人看見那人，就逃跑，極其害怕。
25And the men of Israel said: 'Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to taunt Israel is he come up; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.'
25以色列 人彼此說：「這上來的人你看見了嗎？他上來是要向 以色列 人罵陣。若有能殺他的，王必賞賜他大財，將自己的女兒給他為妻，並在 以色列 人中免他父家納糧當差。」
26And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying: 'What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the taunt from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should have taunted the armies of the living God?'
26大衛 問站在旁邊的人說：「有人殺這 非利士 人，除掉 以色列 人的恥辱，怎樣待他呢？這未受割禮的 非利士 人是誰呢？竟敢向永生上帝的軍隊罵陣嗎？」
27And the people answered him after this manner, saying: 'So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.'
27百姓照先前的話回答他說：「有人能殺這 非利士 人，必如此如此待他。」
28And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said: 'Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumptuousness, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.'
28大衛 的長兄 以利押 聽見 大衛 與他們所說的話，就向他發怒，說：「你下來做甚麼呢？在曠野的那幾隻羊，你交託了誰呢？我知道你的驕傲和你心裏的惡意，你下來特為要看爭戰！」
29And David said: 'What have I now done? Was it not but a word?'
29大衛 說：「我做了甚麼呢？我來豈沒有緣故嗎？」
30And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him after the former manner.
30大衛 就離開他轉向別人，照先前的話而問；百姓仍照先前的話回答他。
31And when the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he was taken to him.
31有人聽見 大衛 所說的話，就告訴了 掃羅 ； 掃羅 便打發人叫他來。
32And David said to Saul: 'Let no man's heart fail within him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.'
32大衛 對 掃羅 說：「人都不必因那 非利士 人膽怯。你的僕人要去與那 非利士 人戰鬥。」
33And Saul said to David: 'Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.'
33掃羅 對 大衛 說：「你不能去與那 非利士 人戰鬥；因為你年紀太輕，他自幼就作戰士。」
34And David said unto Saul: 'Thy servant kept his father's sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,
34大衛 對 掃羅 說：「你僕人為父親放羊，有時來了獅子，有時來了熊，從群中啣一隻羊羔去。
35I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
35我就追趕牠，擊打牠，將羊羔從牠口中救出來。牠起來要害我，我就揪着牠的鬍子，將牠打死。
36Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath taunted the armies of the living God.'
36你僕人曾打死獅子和熊，這未受割禮的 非利士 人向永生上帝的軍隊罵陣，也必像獅子和熊一般。」
37And David said: 'The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' And Saul said unto David: 'Go, and the LORD shall be with thee.'
37大衛 又說：「耶和華救我脫離獅子和熊的爪，也必救我脫離這 非利士 人的手。」 掃羅 對 大衛 說：「你可以去吧！耶和華必與你同在。」
38And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
38掃羅 就把自己的戰衣給 大衛 穿上，將銅盔給他戴上，又給他穿上鎧甲。
39And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he essayed to go, but could not; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul: 'I cannot go with these; for I have not tried them.' And David put them off him.
39大衛 把刀跨在戰衣外，試試能走不能走；因為素來沒有穿慣，就對 掃羅 說：「我穿戴這些不能走，因為素來沒有穿慣。」於是摘脫了。
40And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his scrip; and his sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
40他手中拿杖，又在溪中挑選了五塊光滑石子，放在袋裏，就是牧人帶的囊裏；手中拿着甩石的機弦，就去迎那 非利士 人。
41And the Philistine came nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
41非利士 人也漸漸地迎着 大衛 來，拿盾牌的走在前頭。
42And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.
42非利士 人觀看，見了 大衛 ，就藐視他；因為他年輕，面色光紅，容貌俊美。
43And the Philistine said unto David: 'Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?' And the Philistine cursed David by his god.
43非利士 人對 大衛 說：「你拿杖到我這裏來，我豈是狗呢？」 非利士 人就指着自己的神咒詛 大衛 。
44And the Philistine said to David: 'Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.'
44非利士 人又對 大衛 說：「來吧！我將你的肉給空中的飛鳥、田野的走獸吃。」
45Then said David to the Philistine: 'Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast taunted.
45大衛 對 非利士 人說：「你來攻擊我，是靠着刀槍和 銅 戟；我來攻擊你，是靠着萬軍之耶和華的名，就是你所怒罵帶領 以色列 軍隊的上帝。
46This day will the LORD deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel;
46今日耶和華必將你交在我手裏。我必殺你，斬你的頭，又將 非利士 軍兵的屍首給空中的飛鳥、地上的野獸吃，使普天下的人都知道 以色列 中有上帝；
47and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hand.'
47又使這眾人知道耶和華使人得勝，不是用刀用槍，因為爭戰的勝敗全在乎耶和華。他必將你們交在我們手裏。」
48And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
48非利士 人起身，迎着 大衛 前來。 大衛 急忙迎着 非利士 人，往戰場跑去。
49And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.
49大衛 用手從囊中掏出一塊石子來，用機弦甩去，打中 非利士 人的額，石子進入額內，他就仆倒，面伏於地。
50So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
50這樣， 大衛 用機弦甩石，勝了那 非利士 人，打死他； 大衛 手中卻沒有刀。
51And David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their mighty man was dead, they fled.
51大衛 跑去，站在 非利士 人身旁，將他的刀從鞘中拔出來，殺死他，割了他的頭。 非利士 眾人看見他們討戰的勇士死了，就都逃跑。
52And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
52以色列 人和 猶大 人便起身吶喊，追趕 非利士 人，直到 迦特 和 以革倫 的城門。被殺的 非利士 人倒在 沙拉音 的路上，直到 迦特 和 以革倫 。
53And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camp.
53以色列 人追趕 非利士 人回來，就奪了他們的營盤。
54And David took the head of the philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
54大衛 將那 非利士 人的頭拿到 耶路撒冷 ，卻將他軍裝放在自己的帳棚裏。
55And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host: 'Abner, whose son is this youth?' And Abner said: 'As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.'
55掃羅 看見 大衛 去攻擊 非利士 人，就問元帥 押尼珥 說：「 押尼珥 啊，那少年人是誰的兒子？」 押尼珥 說：「我敢在王面前起誓，我不知道。」
56And the king said: 'Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.'
56王說：「你可以問問那幼年人是誰的兒子。」
57And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
57大衛 打死 非利士 人回來， 押尼珥 領他到 掃羅 面前，他手中拿着 非利士 人的頭。
58And Saul said to him: 'Whose son art thou, thou young man?' And David answered: 'I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.'
58掃羅 問他說：「少年人哪，你是誰的兒子？」 大衛 說：「我是你僕人 伯利恆 人 耶西 的兒子。」
