1Now it fell upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bore his armour: 'Come and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on yonder side. But he told not his father.
1有一日， 掃羅 的兒子 約拿單 對拿他兵器的少年人說：「我們不如過到那邊，到 非利士 人的防營那裏去。」但他沒有告訴父親。
2And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate-tree which is in Migron; and the people that were with him were about six hundred men,

3and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

4And between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side; and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
4約拿單 要從隘口過到 非利士 防營那裏去。這隘口兩邊各有一個山峰：一名 播薛 ，一名 西尼 ；
5The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmas, and the other on the south in front of Geba.
5一峰向北，與 密抹 相對，一峰向南，與 迦巴 相對。
6And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour: 'Come and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us; for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.'
6約拿單 對拿兵器的少年人說：「我們不如過到未受割禮人的防營那裏去，或者耶和華為我們施展能力；因為耶和華使人得勝，不在乎人多人少。」
7And his armour-bearer said unto him: 'Do all that is in thy heart; turn thee, behold I am with thee according to thy heart.'
7拿兵器的對他說：「隨你的心意行吧。你可以上去，我必跟隨你，與你同心。」
8Then said Jonathan: 'Behold, we will pass over unto the men, and we will disclose ourselves unto them.
8約拿單 說：「我們要過到那些人那裏去，使他們看見我們。
9If they say thus unto us: Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.
9他們若對我們說：『你們站住，等我們到你們那裏去』，我們就站住，不上他們那裏去。
10But if they say thus: Come up unto us; then we will go up; for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand; and this shall be the sign unto us.'
10他們若說：『你們上到我們這裏來』，這話就是我們的證據；我們便上去，因為耶和華將他們交在我們手裏了。」
11And both of them disclosed themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said: 'Behold Hebrews coming forth out of the holes where they hid themselves.'
11二人就使 非利士 的防兵看見。 非利士 人說：「 希伯來 人從所藏的洞穴裏出來了！」
12And the men of the garrison spoke to Jonathan and his armour-bearer, and said: 'Come up to us, and we will show you a thing.' And Jonathan said unto his armour-bearer: 'Come up after me; for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.'
12防兵對 約拿單 和拿兵器的人說：「你們上到這裏來，我們有一件事指示你們。」 約拿單 就對拿兵器的人說：「你跟隨我上去，因為耶和華將他們交在 以色列 人手裏了。」
13And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armour-bearer after him; and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour-bearer slew them after him.
13約拿單 就爬上去，拿兵器的人跟隨他。 約拿單 殺倒 非利士 人，拿兵器的人也隨着殺他們。
14And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armour-bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow's length in an acre of land.
14約拿單 和拿兵器的人起頭所殺的約有二十人，都在一畝地的半犂溝之內。
15And there was a trembling in the camp in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled; and the earth quaked; so it grew into a terror from God.
15於是在營中、在田野、在眾民內都有戰兢，防兵和掠兵也都戰兢，地也震動，戰兢之勢甚大。
16And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeath-benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went hither and thither.
16在 便雅憫 的 基比亞 ， 掃羅 的守望兵看見 非利士 的軍眾潰散，四圍亂竄。
17Then said Saul unto the people that were with him: 'Number now, and see who is gone from us.' And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armour-bearer were not there.
17掃羅 就對跟隨他的民說：「你們查點查點，看從我們這裏出去的是誰？」他們一查點，就知道 約拿單 和拿兵器的人沒有在這裏。
18And Saul said unto Ahijah: 'Bring hither the ark of God.' For the ark of God was there at that time with the children of Israel.
18那時上帝的 約 櫃在 以色列 人那裏。 掃羅 對 亞希亞 說：「你將上帝的 約 櫃運了來。」
19And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased; and Saul said unto the priest: 'Withdraw thy hand.'
19掃羅 正與祭司說話的時候， 非利士 營中的喧嚷越發大了； 掃羅 就對祭司說：「停手吧！」
20And Saul and all the people that were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle; and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
20掃羅 和跟隨他的人都聚集，來到戰場，看見 非利士 人用刀互相擊殺，大大惶亂。
21Now the Hebrews that were with the Philistines as beforetime, and that went up with them into the camp round about; even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.
21從前由四方來跟隨 非利士 軍的 希伯來 人現在也轉過來，幫助跟隨 掃羅 和 約拿單 的 以色列 人了。
22Likewise all the men of Israel that had hid themselves in the hill-country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
22那藏在 以法蓮 山地的 以色列 人聽說 非利士 人逃跑，就出來緊緊地追殺他們。
23So the LORD saved Israel that day; and the battle passed on as far as Beth-aven.
23那日，耶和華使 以色列 人得勝，一直戰到 伯‧亞文 。
24And the men of Israel were distressed that day; but Saul adjured the people, saying: 'Cursed be the man that eateth any food until it be evening, and I be avenged on mine enemies.' So none of the people tasted food.
24掃羅 叫百姓起誓說，凡不等到晚上向敵人報完了仇吃甚麼的，必受咒詛。因此這日百姓沒有吃甚麼，就極其困憊。
25And all the people came into the forest; and there was honey upon the ground.
25眾民進入樹林，見有蜜在地上。
26And when the people were come unto the forest, behold a flow of honey; but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.
26他們進了樹林，見有蜜流下來，卻沒有人敢用手 取蜜 入口，因為他們怕那誓言。
27But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath; and he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.
27約拿單 沒有聽見他父親叫百姓起誓，所以伸手中的杖，用杖頭蘸在蜂房裏，轉手送入口內，眼睛就明亮了。
28Then answered one of the people, and said: 'Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying: Cursed be the man that eateth food this day; and the people are faint.'
28百姓中有一人對他說：「你父親曾叫百姓嚴嚴地起誓說，今日吃甚麼的，必受咒詛；因此百姓就疲乏了。」
29Then said Jonathan: 'My father hath troubled the land; see, I pray you, how mine eyes are brightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
29約拿單 說：「我父親連累你們了。你看，我嘗了這一點蜜，眼睛就明亮了。
30How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to-day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? had there not been then a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?'
30今日百姓若任意吃了從仇敵所奪的物，擊殺的 非利士 人豈不更多嗎？」
31And they smote of the Philistines that day from Michmas to Aijalon; and the people were very faint.
31這日， 以色列 人擊殺 非利士 人，從 密抹 直到 亞雅崙 。百姓甚是疲乏，
32And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground; and the people did eat them with the blood.
32就急忙將所奪的牛羊和牛犢宰於地上，肉還帶血就吃了。
33Then they told Saul, saying: 'Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood.' And he said: 'Ye have dealt treacherously; roll a great stone unto me this day.'
33有人告訴 掃羅 說：「百姓吃帶血的肉，得罪耶和華了。」 掃羅 說：「你們有罪了，今日要將大石頭滾到我這裏來。」
34And Saul said: 'Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them: Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood.' And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.
34掃羅 又說：「你們散在百姓中，對他們說，你們各人將牛羊牽到我這裏來宰了吃，不可吃帶血的肉得罪耶和華。」這夜，百姓就把牛羊牽到那裏宰了。
35And Saul built an altar unto the LORD; the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.
35掃羅 為耶和華築了一座壇，這是他初次為耶和華築的壇。
36And Saul said: 'Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them.' And they said: 'Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee.' Then said the priest: 'Let us draw near hither unto God.'
36掃羅 說：「我們不如夜裏下去追趕 非利士 人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不留他們一人。」眾民說：「你看怎樣好就去行吧！」祭司說：「我們先當親近上帝。」
37And Saul asked counsel of God: 'Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt Thou deliver them into the hand of Israel?' But He answered him not that day.
37掃羅 求問上帝說：「我下去追趕 非利士 人可以不可以？你將他們交在 以色列 人手裏不交？」這日上帝沒有回答他。
38And Saul said: 'Draw nigh hither, all ye chiefs of the people; and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.
38掃羅 說：「你們百姓中的長老都上這裏來，查明今日是誰犯了罪。
39For, as the LORD liveth, who saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.' But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.
39我指着救 以色列 －永生的耶和華起誓，就是我兒子 約拿單 犯了罪，他也必死。」但百姓中無一人回答他。
40Then said he unto all Israel: 'Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.' And the people said unto Saul: 'Do what seemeth good unto thee.'
40掃羅 就對 以色列 眾人說：「你們站在一邊，我與我兒子 約拿單 也站在一邊。」百姓對 掃羅 說：「你看怎樣好就去行吧！」
41Therefore Saul said unto the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Declare the right.' And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot; but the people escaped.
41掃羅 禱告耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝說：「求你指示實情。」於是 掣籤 掣出 掃羅 和 約拿單 來；百姓盡都無事。
42And Saul said: 'Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.' And Jonathan was taken.
42掃羅 說：「你們再 掣籤 ，看是我，是我兒子 約拿單 」，就掣出 約拿單 來。
43Then Saul said to Jonathan: 'Tell me what thou hast done.' And Jonathan told him, and said: 'I did certainly taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; here am I: I will die.'
43掃羅 對 約拿單 說：「你告訴我，你做了甚麼事？」 約拿單 說：「我實在以手裏的杖，用杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗了一嘗。這樣我就死嗎？」
44And Saul said: 'God do so and more also; thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.'
44掃羅 說：「 約拿單 哪，你定要死！若不然，願上帝重重地降罰與我。」
45And the people said unto Saul: 'Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far from it; as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day.' So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
45百姓對 掃羅 說：「 約拿單 在 以色列 人中這樣大行拯救，豈可使他死呢？斷乎不可！我們指着永生的耶和華起誓，連他的一根頭髮也不可落地，因為他今日與上帝一同做事。」於是百姓救 約拿單 免了死亡。
46Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.
46掃羅 回去，不追趕 非利士 人； 非利士 人也回本地去了。
47So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he put them to the worse.
47掃羅 執掌 以色列 的國權，常常攻擊他四圍的一切仇敵，就是 摩押 人、 亞捫 人、 以東 人，和 瑣巴 諸王，並 非利士 人。他無論往何處去，都打敗仇敵。
48And he did valiantly, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.
48掃羅 奮勇攻擊 亞瑪力 人，救了 以色列 人脫離搶掠他們之人的手。
49Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchi-shua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the first-born Merab, and the name of the younger Michal;
49掃羅 的兒子是 約拿單 、 亦施韋 、 麥基舒亞 。他的兩個女兒：長女名 米拉 ，次女名 米甲 。
50and the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz; and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.
50掃羅 的妻名叫 亞希暖 ，是 亞希瑪斯 的女兒。 掃羅 的元帥名叫 押尼珥 ，是 尼珥 的兒子； 尼珥 是 掃羅 的叔叔。
51And Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.
51掃羅 的父親 基士 ， 押尼珥 的父親 尼珥 ，都是 亞別 的兒子。
52And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul; and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
52掃羅 平生常與 非利士 人大大爭戰。 掃羅 遇見有能力的人或勇士，都招募了來跟隨他。
