1以撒 叫了 雅各 来，给他祝福，并嘱咐他说：「你不要娶 迦南 的女子为妻。
1And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, saying: Take not a wife of the stock of Chanaan:
2你起身往 巴旦·亚兰 去，到你外祖 彼土利 家里，在你母舅 拉班 的女儿中娶一女为妻。
2But go, and take a journey to Mesopotamia of Syria, to the house of Bathuel thy mother’s father, and take thee a wife thence of the daughters of Laban thy uncle.
3愿全能的 神赐福给你，使你生养众多，成为多族，
3And God almighty bless thee, and make thee to increase, and multiply thee: that thou mayst be a multitude of people.
4将应许 亚伯拉罕 的福赐给你和你的后裔，使你承受你所寄居的地为业，就是 神赐给 亚伯拉罕 的地。」
4And give the blessings of Abraham to thee, and to thy seed after thee: that thou mayst possess the land of thy sojournment, which he promised to thy grandfather.
5以撒 打发 雅各 走了，他就往 巴旦·亚兰 去，到 亚兰 人 彼土利 的儿子 拉班 那里。 拉班 是 雅各 、 以扫 的母舅。
5And when Isaac had sent him away, he took his journey and went to Mesopotamia of Syria to Laban the son of Bathuel the Syrian, brother to Rebecca his mother.
6以扫 见 以撒 已经给 雅各 祝福，而且打发他往 巴旦·亚兰 去，在那里娶妻，并见祝福的时候嘱咐他说：「不要娶 迦南 的女子为妻」，
6And Esau seeing that his father had blessed Jacob, and had sent him into Mesopotamia of Syria, to marry a wife thence; and that after the blessing he had charged him, saying: Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Chanaan:
7又见 雅各 听从父母的话往 巴旦·亚兰 去了，
7And that Jacob obeying his parents was gone into Syria:
8以扫 就晓得他父亲 以撒 看不中 迦南 的女子，
8Experiencing also that his father was not well pleased with the daughters of Chanaan:
9便往 以实玛利 那里去，在他二妻之外又娶了 玛哈拉 为妻。她是 亚伯拉罕 儿子 以实玛利 的女儿， 尼拜约 的妹子。
9He went to Ismael, and took to wife, besides them he had before, Maheleth the daughter of Ismael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nabajoth.
10雅各 出了 别是巴 ，向 哈兰 走去；
10But Jacob being departed from Bersabee, went on to Haran.
11到了一个地方，因为太阳落了，就在那里住宿，便拾起那地方的一块石头枕在头下，在那里躺卧睡了，
11And when he was come to a certain place, and would rest in it after sunset, he took of the stones that lay there, and putting under his head, slept in the same place.
12梦见一个梯子立在地上，梯子的头顶着天，有 神的使者在梯子上，上去下来。
12And he saw in his sleep a ladder standing upon the earth, and the top thereof touching heaven: the angels also of God ascending and descending by it;
13耶和华站在梯子以上，说：「我是耶和华—你祖 亚伯拉罕 的 神，也是 以撒 的 神；我要将你现在所躺卧之地赐给你和你的后裔。
13And the Lord leaning upon the ladder, saying to him: I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land, wherein thou sleepest, I will give to thee and to thy seed.
14你的后裔必像地上的尘沙那样多，必向东西南北开展；地上万族必因你和你的后裔得福。
14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth: thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and IN THEE and thy seed all the tribes of the earth SHALL BE BLESSED.
15我也与你同在。你无论往哪里去，我必保佑你，领你归回这地，总不离弃你，直到我成全了向你所应许的。」
15And I will be thy keeper whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee back into this land: neither will I leave thee, till I shall have accomplished all that I have said.
16雅各 睡醒了，说：「耶和华真在这里，我竟不知道！」
16And when Jacob awaked out of sleep, he said: Indeed the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not.
17就惧怕，说：「这地方何等可畏！这不是别的，乃是 神的殿，也是天的门。」
17And trembling he said: How terrible is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and the gate of heaven.
18雅各 清早起来，把所枕的石头立作柱子，浇油在上面。
18And Jacob, arising in the morning, took the stone, which he had laid under his head, and set it up for a title, pouring oil upon the top of it.
19他就给那地方起名叫 伯特利 ；但那地方起先名叫 路斯 。
19And he called the name of the city Bethel, which before was called Luza.
20雅各 许愿说：「 神若与我同在，在我所行的路上保佑我，又给我食物吃，衣服穿，
20And he made a vow, saying: If God shall be with me, and shall keep me in the way by which I walk, and shall give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21使我平平安安地回到我父亲的家，我就必以耶和华为我的 神。
21And I shall return prosperously to my father’s house: the Lord shall be my God:
22我所立为柱子的石头也必作 神的殿；凡你所赐给我的，我必将十分之一献给你。」
22And this stone, which I have set up for a title, shall be called the house of God: and of all things that thou shalt give to me, I will offer tithes to thee.
