1V tom, když pobyl Izrael v Setim, počal lid smilniti s dcerami Moábskými.
1And Israel at that time abode in Settim, and the people committed fornication with the daughters of Moab,
2Kteréž pozvaly lidu k obětem bohů svých; i jedl lid, a klaněli se bohům jejich.
2Who called them to their sacrifices. And they ate of them, and adored their gods.
3I připojil se lid Izraelský k modle Belfegor, a popudila se prchlivost Hospodinova proti Izraelovi.
3And Israel was initiated to Beelphegor: upon which the Lord being angry,
4I řekl Hospodin Mojžíšovi: Vezmi všecka knížata lidu, a zvěšej ty nešlechetníky Hospodinu před sluncem, aby se odvrátila prchlivost Hospodinova od Izraele.
4Said to Moses: Take all the princes of the people, and hang them up on gibbets against the sun: that my fury may be turned away from Israel.
5I řekl Mojžíš soudcům Izraelským: Zabí jeden každý z svých všelikého, kterýž se připojil k modle Belfegor.
5And Moses said to the judges of Israel: Let every man kill his neighbours, that have been initiated to Beelphegor.
6A aj, jeden z synů Izraelských přišel, a přivedl k bratřím svým ženu Madianku, na odivu Mojžíšovi i všemu množství synů Izraelských; oni pak plakali u dveří stánku úmluvy.
6And behold one of the children of Israel went in before his brethren to a harlot of Madian, in the sight of Moses, and of all the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle.
7To když uzřel Fínes, syn Eleazara, syna Aronova, kněze, vyvstal z prostředku množství toho, a vzal kopí do ruky své.
7And when Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest saw it, he rose up from the midst; of the multitude, and taking a dagger,
8A všed za mužem Izraelským do stanu, probodl je oba dva, muže Izraelského, i ženu tu skrze břicho její; i odvrácena jest rána od synů Izraelských.
8Went in after the Israelite into the brothel house, and thrust both of them through together, to wit, the man and the woman in the genital parts. And the scourge ceased from the children of Israel:
9Zhynulo jich pak od té rány dvadceti čtyři tisíce.
9And there were slain four and twenty thousand men.
10Tedy mluvil Hospodin k Mojžíšovi, řka:
10And the Lord said to Moses:
11Fínes, syn Eleazara kněze, syna Aronova, odvrátil prchlivost mou od synů Izraelských, kdyžto horlil horlivostí mou u prostřed nich, tak abych neshladil synů Izraelských v horlivosti své.
11Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned away my wrath from the children of Israel: because he was moved with my zeal against them, that I myself might not destroy the children of Israel in my zeal.
12Protož díš: Aj, já dám jemu smlouvu svou pokoje.
12Therefore say to him: Behold I give him the peace of my covenant,
13I bude míti on i símě jeho po něm smlouvu kněžství věčného, proto že horlil pro Boha svého, a očistil syny Izraelské.
13And the covenant of the priesthood for ever shall be both to him and his seed, because he hath been zealous for his God, and hath made atonement for the wickedness of the children of Israel.
14A bylo jméno muže Izraelského zabitého, kterýž byl zabit s Madiankou, Zamri, syn Sálův, kníže domu otce svého z pokolení Simeonova.
14And the name of the Israelite, was slain with the woman of Madian, was Zambri the son of Salu, a prince the kindred and tribe of Simeon.
15Jméno pak ženy Madianky zabité, Kozbi, dcera Sur, kterýž byl přední v národu svém, v domě otce svého mezi Madianskými.
15And the Madianite woman, that was slain with him, was called Cozbi the daughter of Sur, a most noble prince among the Madianites.
16I mluvil Hospodin k Mojžíšovi, řka:
16And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
17Nepřátelsky zacházejte s těmi Madianskými, a zbíte je.
17Let the Madianites find you enemies, and slay you them:
18Nebo i oni nepřátelsky a lstivě chovali se k vám, a oklamali vás skrze modlu Fegor, a skrze Kozbu, dceru knížete Madianského, sestru svou, kteráž zabita jest v den pomsty přišlé z příčiny Fegor.
18Because they also have acted like enemies against you, and have guilefully deceived you by the idol Phogor, and Cozbi their sister, a daughter of a prince of Madian, who was slain in the day the plague for the sacrilege of Phogor.
