1Ik sloeg mijn ogen op, en zag toe. Zie, daar was een man, met een meetsnoer in de hand.
1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
2Ik zeide: Waar gaat gij heen? Hij gaf mij ten antwoord: Ik ga Jerusalem meten, om te zien, hoe groot zijn breedte en lengte is.
2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
3En zie, de engel, die tot mij sprak, trad naar voren; maar een andere engel liep hem tegemoet,
3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
4en sprak tot hem: Ga dien jongeman zeggen, dat Jerusalem als een open stad zal zijn om de menigte mensen en dieren daarbinnen.
4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
5Ik zelf, is de godsspraak van Jahweh, zal een muur van vuur om hem heen zijn, en een glorie in zijn midden.
5For I, saith the LORD , will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
6Op, op! Vlucht uit het land van het noorden, Is de godsspraak van Jahweh! Want naar de vier windstreken breid Ik u uit, Is de godsspraak van Jahweh!
6¶ Ho, ho, come forth , and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD : for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD .
7Op, Sion, Red u, Gij die bij de dochter van Babel woont.
7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.
8Want zo spreekt Jahweh der heirscharen na de verdrukking, Hij die mij tot de volken zond, die u hebben geplunderd: Wie u aanraakt, raakt mijn oogappel aan!
8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
9Zie, Ik zwaai mijn hand tegen hen: Ze worden een buit van hun slaven, En gij zult weten, dat Jahweh der heirscharen mij heeft gezonden!
9For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
10Verheug en verblijd u, dochter van Sion: Want zie, Ik kom, Om in uw midden te wonen, Is de godsspraak van Jahweh;
10¶ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD .
11Op die dag sluiten talrijke volken zich bij Jahweh aan, En worden mijn volk! Dan zal Ik in uw midden wonen, En gij zult weten, dat Jahweh der heirscharen mij heeft gezonden!
11And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
12Jahweh zal Juda tot erfdeel bezitten op de heilige grond, En Jerusalem weer uitverkiezen.
12And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.
13Zwijg stil, alle vlees voor het aanschijn van Jahweh, Want Hij staat op uit zijn heilige woning!
13Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD : for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
