Ecclesiastes 7
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
Bible Mutal (Kosraean)
1A good name is better than precious oil; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
1Sie elah wo el wo liki ono keng yohk molo; ac len in misa lom wo liki len in isusla lom.
2It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting; for that is the end of all men, and the living will lay it to his heart.
2Wo in som nu ke sie lohm ma oasr tung ac mwemelil we liki in som nu ke sie lohm ma mwet uh orek kufwa we, mweyen fal mwet moul uh in esam lah misa uh soanekut nukewa.
3Vexation is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart may be gladdened.
3Asor wo liki israsr — sahp ac oru kom ngetnget in asor, tusruktu ac akyokye etauk lom uh.
4The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
5Kas in kai sin sie mwet lalmwetmet, wo liki kas in kaksak lun mwet lalfon.
6For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool; this also is vanity.
Wanginna kalmeya.
7Surely oppression turneth a wise man into a fool; and a gift destroyeth the understanding.
7Sie mwet lalmwetmet fin kutasrik nu sin sie pac mwet, el orekma oana mwet lalfon. Kom fin eis molin eyeinse, kom sifacna akkolukyekomla.
8Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof; and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
8Sie ma aksafyeyukla, wo liki sie ma tufahna mutawauk. Mongfisrasr uh wo liki inse fulat.
9Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
10Say not thou: 'How was it that the former days were better than these?' for it is not out of wisdom that thou inquirest concerning this.
10Nikmet siyuk, “Efu ku ma meet ah wo liki na ma pacl inge uh?” Tiana kusen siyuk lalmwetmet se.
11Wisdom is good with an inheritance, yea, a profit to them that see the sun.
11Mwet nukewa su moul enenu in lalmwetmet. Mweyen lalmwetmet uh wo oana ke sie mwet el usrui ma wo.
12For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.
12Lalmwetmet ac fah asot nu sum inse misla oana mani uh.
13Consider the work of God; for who can make that straight, which He hath made crooked?
13Nunku ke ma God El orala. Sie mwet ac aksuwosyela fuka sie ma God El akkihyela?
14In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; God hath made even the one as well as the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
14Ke pacl ma nukewa wo nu sum uh, engankin; ac ke pacl ma upa uh sikyak, esam lah God El supu kewana pacl in engan ac pacl upa; kom koflana etu lah mea ac sikyak tok.
15All things have I seen in the days of my vanity; there is a righteous man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his evil-doing.
16Be not righteous overmuch; neither make thyself overwise; why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
16Ke ma inge nik kom arulana orek suwohs ku orek lalmwetmet — mwe mea kom in sifacna unikomi?
17Be not overmuch wicked, neither be thou foolish; why shouldest thou die before thy time?
17Tusruktu nik kom arulana eiskomyang in oru ma koluk ku oru ma lalfon — efu ku kom in misa meet liki pacl fal lom?
18It is good that thou shouldest take hold of the one; yea, also from the other withdraw not thy hand; for he that feareth God shall discharge himself of them all.
18Karinginkomyang liki ouiya inge kewa. Kom fin akfulatye God, kom ac nuna sun wo ouiya.
19Wisdom is a stronghold to the wise man more than ten rulers that are in a city.
19Lalmwetmet uh ac akwoye sie mwet yohk liki na ma mwet kol singoul ku in oru nu ke sie siti.
20For there is not a righteous man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
20Wangin sie mwet fin faclu oru ma suwohs pacl nukewa ac tiana orala sie tafongla.
21Also take not heed unto all words that are spoken, lest thou hear thy servant curse thee;
21Nik kom lohang nu ke ma nukewa ma mwet uh fahk uh — sahp kom ac lohngak ke mwet kulansap lom el kaskas akkolukye kom,
22for oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
22ac kom sifacna etu lah kom fahk kas in akkolukye mwet pacl puspis.
23All this have I tried by wisdom; I said: 'I will get wisdom'; but it was far from me.
23Nga orekmakin lalmwetmet luk in srike ma inge nukewa. Nga wotela na ku sik ngan lalmwetmet, tusruktu loesla likiyu.
24That which is is far off, and exceeding deep; who can find it out?
24Sie mwet ac konauk fuka lah mea kalmen moul uh? Arulana loalla nu sesr ac upala kut in kalem kac.
25I turned about, and applied my heart to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the reason of things, and to know wickedness to be folly, and foolishness to be madness;
25Tusruktu nga eisyuyang nu ke etauk ac lutlut; nga tuh sulela nga in suk lalmwetmet ac top nu ke mwe siyuk luk, ac in etu lupan koluk ac lalfon lun nikin uh.
26and I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands; whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
Sie mukul su oru ma lungse lun God el ku in kaingla liki mutan sac, a funu sie mukul koluk, mutan sac ac sruokilyana.
27Behold, this have I found, saith Koheleth, adding one thing to another, to find out the account;
27Na Mwet Luti Lalmwetmet el fahk, nga kais kutu srisrik na konauk ma inge ke nga suk top nu ke mwe siyuk luk uh.
28which yet my soul sought, but I found not; one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
28Nga suk kutu pac top saya tuh wangin ma nga konauk. Nga konauk mukul sefanna inmasrlon tausin su nga ku in lulalfongi, ac tia siefanna mutan nga ku in lulalfongi.
29Behold, this only have I found, that God made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
29Pa inge ma nga lotela: God El orekutla suwohs ac pwaye, ac kut sifacna oru kut in arulana fohsak.
