1しかし、あなたは健全な教えにふさわしいことを語りなさい。

1But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

2年配の男性には、節度があり、品位を保ち、思慮深く、信仰と愛と忍耐において健全であるよう教えなさい。

2That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3同じように、年配の女性には、敬虔な者にふさわしく振る舞い、人を中傷せず、多くの酒の奴隷にならず、良いことを教える者となるよう教えなさい。

3The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4そうすれば、彼女たちは若い妻たちを導き、夫を愛し、子どもを愛し、

4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5思慮深く、貞潔で、家庭の務めに励み、親切で、自分の夫に従うよう教えることができます。それは、神のことばがそしられないためです。

5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

6同じように、若い男性には思慮深くあるよう勧めなさい。

6Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

7あらゆる点で、自ら良い働きの模範となりなさい。教えにおいては、純正さと品位と清廉さを示し、

7In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8非難の余地のない健全なことばを用いなさい。そうすれば、反対する者は、私たちについて悪く言えることが何もなく、恥じ入ることになります。

8Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

9しもべたちには、自分の主人に従い、何事においても主人に喜ばれるようにし、口答えせず、

9Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things ; not answering again;

10何も盗み取らず、どこまでも誠実であることを示すよう勧めなさい。そうすれば彼らは、あらゆる点で、私たちの救い主である神の教えを美しく飾ることになります。

10Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

11すべての人に救いをもたらす神の恵みが現れました。

11For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12その恵みは、不敬虔と世の欲望を退け、この世にあって、思慮深く、正しく、敬虔に生きるよう私たちを教えています。

12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13私たちは、幸いな望み、すなわち、私たちの偉大な神であり救い主であるイエス・キリストの栄光の現れを待ち望んでいます。

13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

14キリストは、私たちをあらゆる不法から贖い、清めてご自分のものとなる民とし、良い働きに熱心な者とするために、ご自身を私たちのために献げられました。

14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

15あなたはこれらのことを語り、あらゆる権威をもって励まし、戒めなさい。だれにも軽んじられないようにしなさい。

15These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
