1初めからあったもの、私たちが聞いたもの、目で見たもの、じっと見つめ、手で触れたもの、すなわち命のことばについて、
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2その命は現されました。私たちはそれを見て、あかしし、あなたがたに告げ知らせます。すなわち、父とともにあり、私たちに現された永遠の命です。
2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it , and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3私たちが見、また聞いたものを、あなたがたにも告げ知らせます。それは、あなたがたも私たちと交わりを持つためです。しかも、私たちの交わりは、父とその御子イエス・キリスト との交わりです。
3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4私たちがこれらのことを書くのは、私たちの喜びが満ちるためです。
4And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5私たちがその方から聞き、あなたがたに告げ知らせる知らせは、神は光であり、神のうちには闇が少しもないということです。
5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6神と交わりがあると言いながら闇の中を歩むなら、私たちは偽りを言い、真実を語ってはいません。
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7しかし、神が光の中におられるように、私たちも光の中を歩むなら、私たちには互いの交わりがあり、その御子イエス・キリストの血が、すべての罪から私たちを清めます。
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8自分には罪がないと言うなら、私たちは自分を欺いており、真理は私たちのうちにありません。
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9私たちが自分の罪を告白するなら、神は真実で正しい方ですから、私たちの罪を赦し、すべての不義から清めてくださいます。
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10罪を犯したことがないと言うなら、私たちは神を偽り者とすることになり、そのことばは私たちのうちにありません。
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
