1天に大きなしるしが現れた。一人の女が太陽をまとい、月を足の下に置き、頭には十二の星の冠をかぶっていた。
1And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2女は身ごもっており、産みの苦しみにあえぎ、叫び声を上げていた。
2And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3また、別のしるしが天に現れた。見よ、七つの頭と十本の角を持ち、その頭に七つの冠をかぶった大きな赤い竜である。
3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4その尾は空の星の三分の一を引きずり、地上に投げ落とした。竜は、子を産もうとしている女の前に立ち、女が産んだとき、その子を食い尽くそうとしていた。
4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5女は一人の男の子を産んだ。この子は鉄の杖ですべての国民を治めることになっている。その子は神のもと、その王座へ引き上げられた。
5And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6女は荒野へ逃げた。そこには、千二百六十日の間、彼女を養うため、神によって備えられた場所があった。
6And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
7さて、天で戦いが起こった。ミカエルとその御使いたちは竜と戦い、竜とその御使いたちも戦った。
7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8しかし、竜の側は勝てず、もはや天には彼らの居場所がなくなった。
8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9こうして、大きな竜、すなわち、悪魔またサタンと呼ばれ、全世界を惑わす、あの古い蛇が投げ落とされた。竜は地上に投げ落とされ、その御使いたちも一緒に投げ落とされた。
9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10そのとき、天で大きな声がこう言うのを聞いた。「今や、私たちの神の救いと力と王国、また神のキリストの権威が到来した。私たちの兄弟たちを訴える者、昼も夜も神の前で彼らを訴えていた者が、投げ落とされたからである。
10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11兄弟たちは、小羊の血と、自分たちのあかしの言葉によって、彼に打ち勝った。彼らは死に至るまで、自分の命を惜しまなかった。
11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12それゆえ、天とそこに住む者たちよ、喜べ。しかし、地と海よ、災いだ。悪魔が激しい怒りを抱いて、あなたがたのところへ下ったからである。自分の時が短いことを知っているのである。」
12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13竜は、自分が地上に投げ落とされたことを知ると、男の子を産んだ女を迫害した。
13And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child .
14女には大きな鷲の二つの翼が与えられ、自分の場所である荒野へ飛んで行き、蛇の手を逃れ、一時と二時と半時の間、そこで養われることになった。
14And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15蛇は女を流れに押し流そうとして、その口から女を追って川のような水を吐き出した。
15And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16しかし、地が女を助けた。地は口を開き、竜が口から吐き出した川を飲み干した。
16And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17竜は女に対して怒り、その子孫の残りの者たち、すなわち、神の戒めを守り、イエスのあかしを保っている者たちと戦うために出て行った。
17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
