1And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
1Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht:
2Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a provoking house: who have eyes to see, and see not: and ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a provoking house.
2Mensenkind, ge woont midden onder een onhandelbaar ras, dat ogen heeft om te kijken maar niet ziet, oren om te horen maar niet hoort; want het is een onhandelbaar ras.
3Thou, therefore, O son of man, prepare thee all necessaries for removing, and remove by day in their sight: and thou shalt remove out of thy place to another place in their sight, if so be they will regard it: for they are a provoking house.
3Daarom, mensenkind, moet ge overdag, onder hun ogen, aanschaffen, wat men bij een verbanning nodig heeft. Verhuis onder hun ogen van uw woonplaats naar een ander oord; misschien erkennen ze dan, wat voor onhandelbaar ras ze zijn.
4And thou shalt bring forth thy furniture as the furniture of one that is removing by day in their sight: and thou shalt go forth in the evening in their presence, as one goeth forth that removeth his dwelling.
4Overdag moet ge uw pak, de uitrusting voor een verbanning, onder hun ogen naar buiten brengen, en bij avond zelf zo opvallend mogelijk vertrekken, als iemand die in ballingschap gestuurd wordt;
5Dig thee a way through the wall before their eyes: and thou shalt go forth through it.
5hak voor hun ogen een gat in de muur, en ga er doorheen.
6In their sight thou shalt be carried out upon men’s shoulders, thou shalt be carried out in the dark: thou shalt cover thy face, and shalt not see the ground: for I have set thee for a sign of things to come to the house of Israel.
6Neem voor hun ogen uw pak op de schouder, en vertrek in het donker met bedekt gelaat, zodat ge de grond niet ziet; want Ik maak u tot een voorteken voor Israëls huis.
7I did therefore as he had commanded me: I brought forth my goods by day, as the goods of one that removeth: and in the evening I digged through the wall with my hand: and I went forth in the dark, and was carried on men’s shoulders in their sight.
7Ik deed, zoals mij bevolen was; overdag bracht ik mijn pak, de uitrusting voor een verbanning, naar buiten, en bij avond hakte ik met geweld een gat in de muur; ik vertrok in het donker voor hun ogen, met het pak op mijn schouder.
8And the word of the Lord came to me in the morning, saying:
8De volgende morgen kwam het woord van Jahweh tot mij:
9Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the provoking house, said to thee: What art thou doing?
9Mensenkind, heeft het huis van Israël, dat onhandelbare ras, u niet gevraagd: Wat doet ge daar?
10Say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: This burden concerneth my prince that is in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel, that are among them.
10Spreek tot hen: Dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Dit pak is de vorst in Jerusalem, met heel het huis van Israël, dat binnen zijn muren woont!
11Say: I am a sign of things to come to you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them: they shall be removed from their dwellings, and go into captivity.
11Spreek: Ik ben een voorteken voor u: zoals ik gedaan heb, zo zal met hen gebeuren; in ballingschap, in gevangenschap zullen ze gaan!
12And the prince that is in the midst of them, shall be carried on shoulders, he shall go forth in the dark: they shall dig through the wall to bring him out: his face shall be covered, that he may not see the ground with his eyes.
12De vorst, die in hun midden woont, zal zijn pak op de schouder dragen, en in het donker vertrekken; men zal een gat in de muur hakken, om hem door te laten, en hij zal zijn gelaat bedekken, zodat zijn ogen de grond niet zien.
13And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my net: and I will bring him into Babylon, into the land of the Chaldeans, and he shall not see it, and there he shall die.
13Mijn jachtnet werp Ik over hem heen, houd hem in mijn strik gevangen en zal hem naar Babel brengen, naar het land der Chaldeën, zonder dat hij het ziet; dáár zal hij sterven.
14And all that are about him, his guards, and his troops I will scatter into every wind: and I will draw out the sword after them.
14En allen die tot zijn gevolg behoren, zijn lijfwacht en al zijn troepen, zal Ik verstrooien over alle windstreken, en het zwaard achter hen trekken.
15And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have dispersed them among the nations, and scattered them in the countries.
15Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben! En als Ik ze over de volken verstrooid heb, en over de landen verspreid,
16And I will leave a few men of them from the sword, and from the famine, and from the pestilence: that they may declare all their wicked deeds among the nations whither they shall go: and they shall know that I am the Lord.
16dan zal Ik enkelen van die mannen aan zwaard en hongersnood en pest ontrukken, om ze van al hun gruwelen te laten vertellen onder de volken waar ze komen. Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben!
17And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
17Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht:
18Son of man, eat thy bread in trouble: and drink thy water in hurry and sorrow.
18Mensenkind, uw brood moet ge al bevend eten, en het water drinken onder siddering en angst.
19And say to the people of the land: Thus saith the Lord God to them that dwell in Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread in care, and drink their water in desolation: that the land may become desolate from the multitude that is therein, for the iniquity of all that dwell therein.
19Dan moet ge tot de bevolking zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer, tot de bewoners van Jerusalem, tot Israëls grond: Hun brood zullen ze eten met angst, en het water drinken in ontzetting; want hun land ligt van zijn overvloed beroofd om de misdaad van al zijn bewoners.
20And the cities that are now inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate: and you shall know that I am the Lord.
20Uw dichtbevolkte steden zullen verwoest worden, en het land zal een wildernis zijn. Zo zult ge erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben.
21And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
21Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht!
22Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel? saying: The days shall be prolonged, and every vision shall fail.
22Mensenkind, wat is dat toch voor een gezegde bij u in het land Israël: “De tijd verstrijkt, geen enkele profetie komt uit!”
23Say to them therefore: Thus saith the Lord God: I will make this proverb to cease, neither shall it be any more a common saying in Israel: and tell them that the days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.
23Daarom moet ge hun zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer! Ik maak een eind aan zo’n gezegde; men zal het in Israël niet meer gebruiken! Zeg liever tot hen: “De tijd is daar, en elke profetie wordt waar!”
24For there shall be no more any vain visions, nor doubtful divination in the midst of the children of Israel.
24In het huis van Israël zal geen loze profetie of een valse voorspelling meer voorkomen.
25For I the Lord will speak: and what word soever I shall speak, it shall come to pass, and shall not be prolonged any more: but in your days, ye provoking house, I will speak the word, and will do it, saith the Lord God.
25Want Ik, Jahweh, zal spreken; alwat Ik zeg, wordt zonder uitstel vervuld. Waarachtig, onhandelbaar ras, in úw dagen zal Ik mijn woord verkondigen en vervullen, zegt Jahweh, de Heer.
26And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
26Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht:
27Son of man, behold the house of Israel, they that say: The vision that this man seeth, is for many days to come: and this men prophesieth of times afar off.
27Mensenkind, ge ziet, hoe het huis van Israël beweert: Het gezicht, dat die man daar schouwde, duurt een eeuwigheid nog; hij profeteert voor de verre toekomst!
28Therefore say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Not one word of mine shall be prolonged any more: the word that I shall speak shall be accomplished, saith the Lord God.
28Daarom moet ge hun zeggen: Zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer! Geen van mijn woorden wordt uitgesteld; elk woord, dat Ik verkondig, zal in vervulling gaan, zegt Jahweh, de Heer.
