1Now when Mardochai had heard these things, he rent his garments, and put on sackcloth, strewing ashes on his head: and he cried with a loud voice in the street in the midst of the city, shewing the anguish of his mind.
1А Мардохеј дознав све шта би, раздре хаљине своје и обуче се у кострет и посу се пепелом и пође по граду вичући иза гласа горко.
2And he came lamenting in this manner even to the gate of the palace: for no one clothed with sackcloth might enter the king’s court.
2И дође до пред врата царева, јер не беше слободно ући на врата царева у кострети.
3And in all provinces, towns, and places, to which the king’s cruel edict was come, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, wailing, and weeping, many using sackcloth and ashes for their bed.
3И у свим земљама, у које год место дође реч царева и заповест његова, би велика жалост међу Јеврејима и пост и плач и јаук, и многи у кострети и пепелу лежаху.
4Then Esther’s maids and her eunuchs went in, and told her. And when she heard it she was in a consternation: and she sent a garment, to clothe him, and to take away the sackcloth: but he would not receive it.
4И дођоше девојке Јестирине и дворани њени, и јавише јој: и царица се ожалости веома, и посла хаљине да преобуку Мардохеја и да скину с њега кострет; али он не прими.
5And she called for Athach the eunuch, whom the king had appointed to attend upon her, and she commanded him to go to Mardochai, and learn of him why he did this.
5Тада дозва Јестира Атаха, дворанина царевог, ког јој беше дао да јој служи, и заповеди му за Мардохеја да разбере шта му је и зашто.
6And Athach going out went to Mardochai, who was standing in the street of the city, before the palace gate:
6И отиде Атах к Мардохеју на улицу градску која беше пред вратима царевим.
7And Mardochai told him all that had happened, how Aman had promised to pay money into the king’s treasures, to have the Jews destroyed.
7И Мардохеј му каза све што му се догодило и за сребро што је обрекао Аман дати у цареву ризницу за Јудејце да их истреби;
8He gave him also a copy of the edict which was hanging up in Susan, that he should shew it to the queen, and admonish her to go in to the king, and to entreat him for her people.
8и препис од заповести која би проглашена у Сусану да се истребе, даде му да је покаже Јестири и јави, и да јој наручи да отиде к цару и да га умилостиви и да га моли за свој народ.
9And Athach went back and told Esther all that Mardochai had said.
9И вративши се Атах каза Јестири речи Мардохејеве.
10She answered him, and bade him say to Mardochai:
10А Јестира рече Атаху и заповеди му да каже Мардохеју:
11All the king’s servants, and all the provinces that are under his dominion, know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, cometh into the king’s inner court, who is not called for, is immediately to be put to death without any delay: except the king shall hold out the golden sceptre to him, in token of clemency, that so he may live. How then can I go in to the king, who for these thirty days now have not been called unto him?
11Знају све слуге цареве и народ по земљама царевим да ко би год, човек или жена, ушао к цару унутра у двор не будући позван, један је закон за њ, да се погуби, осим коме би цар пружио златну палицу, тај остаје жив; а ја нисам звана да уђем к цару, ово је тридесет дана.
12And when Mardochai had heard this,
12И казане бише Мардохеју речи Јестирине.
13He sent word to Esther again, saying: Think not that thou mayst save thy life only, because thou art in the king a house, more than all the Jews:
13А Мардохеј опет поручи Јестири: Немој мислити да ћеш се мимо све Јудејце избавити у дому царевом.
14For if thou wilt now hold thy peace, the Jews shall be delivered by some other occasion: and thou, and thy father’s house shall perish. And who knoweth whether thou art not therefore come to the kingdom, that thou mightest be ready in such a time as this?
14Јер ако ти заћутиш сада, доћи ће помоћ и избављење Јудејцима с друге стране, а ти и дом оца твог погинућете; и ко зна ниси ли за овако време дошла до царства.
15And again Esther sent to Mardochai in these words:
15Тада рече Јестира да одговоре Мардохеју:
16Go, and gather together all the Jews whom thou shalt find in Susan, and pray ye for me. Neither eat nor drink for three days and three nights: and I with my handmaids will fast in like manner, and then I will go in to the king, against the law, not being called, and expose myself to death and to danger.
16Иди, скупи све Јудејце што се налазе у Сусану, и постите за ме, и не једите ни пијте за три дана ни дању ни ноћу; и ја ћу са својим девојкама постити такође, па ћу онда отићи к цару, ако и није по закону, и ако погинем, нека погинем.
17So Mardochai went, and did all that Esther had commanded him.
17Тада отиде Мардохеј и учини све како му заповеди Јестира.
