Coptic New Testament
Douay-Rheims Bible, American Edition (1899)
1ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⳿ⲉⲁⲛⲭⲱ ⳿ⲛⲥⲱⲛ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲧⲁⲣⲭⲏ ⳿ⲙⲠⲭ̅ⲥ̅ ⲙⲁⲣⲉⲛ⳿ⲓ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓϫⲱⲕ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉⲣⲱϧⲧ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲩⲥⲉⲛϯ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲁ ϩⲁⲛ⳿ϩⲃⲏⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ ⲉⲩⲙⲱⲟⲩⲧ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩⲛⲁϩϯ ⳿ⲉⲫϯ.
1Wherefore leaving the word of the beginning of Christ, let us go on to things more perfect, not laying again the foundation of penance from dead works, and of faith towards God,
2ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ϩⲁⲛϭⲓⲱⲙⲥ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ ⲭⲁϫⲓϫ ⳿ⲉϫⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲁⲥⲓⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲣⲉϥⲙⲱⲟⲩⲧ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲕⲣⲓⲥⲓⲥ ⳿ⲛⲉⲛⲉϩ.
2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and imposition of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲉⲛⲉⲁⲓϥ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲁⲣⲉϣⲁⲛ Ⲡ⳪ ⲟⲩⲁϩⲥⲁϩⲛⲓ.
3And this will we do, if God permit.
4ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲧϫⲟⲙ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲧⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲁⲩϭ ⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲟⲩⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲟⲡ ⳿ⲉⲁⲩϫⲉⲙϯⲡⲓ ⳿ⲛⲇⲱⲣⲉⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⳿ⲧⲫⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲩⲉⲣ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲡ͞ⲛⲁ̅ ⲉⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ.
4For it is impossible for those who were once illuminated, have tasted also the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲩϫⲉⲙϯⲡⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲉⲑⲛⲁⲛⲉϥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲓϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ.
5Have moreover tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉϩⲉⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉⲉⲣⲃⲉⲣⲓ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ ⲉⲩⲓϣⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲕⲉⲥⲟⲡ ⲥⲉ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲥⲣⲁϩ.
6And are fallen away: to be renewed again to penance, crucifying again to themselves the Son of God, and making him a mockery.
7ⲡⲓⲕⲁϩⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲥⲱ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲙⲟⲩⲛϩⲱⲟⲩ ⲉⲑⲛⲏ ⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ⳿ⲉϫⲱϥ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲏϣ ⳿ⲛⲥⲟⲡ ⲉϥⲙⲓⲥⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲓⲙ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲉϥ ⳿ⲛⲛⲏⲉⲧⲁⲩ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲓⲉⲫⲟⲩⲱⲓ ⲉⲑⲃⲏⲧⲟⲩ ϣⲁϥϭⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓ⳿ⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ.
7For the earth that drinketh in the rain which cometh often upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is tilled, receiveth blessing from God.
8ⲁϥϣⲁⲛ⳿ⲓⲛⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛϩⲁⲛϣⲟⲛϯ ⲛⲉⲙ ϩⲁⲛⲥⲟⲩⲣⲓ ⲟⲩⲁⲧϣⲁⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ϥϧⲉⲛⲧ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉⲧⲉϥϧⲁ⳿ⲉ ⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲓ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡⲣⲟⲕϩϥ.
8But that which bringeth forth thorns and briers, is reprobate, and very near unto a curse, whose end is to be burnt.
9ⲡⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲇⲉ ⲑⲏⲧ ⲉⲑⲃⲉ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲁϯ ϧⲁ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲥⲱⲧⲡ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϧⲉⲛⲧ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲟⲩϫⲁⲓ ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣ⳿ⲡⲕⲉⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ.
9But, my dearly beloved, we trust better things of you, and nearer to salvation; though we speak thus.
10⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲣⲉϥϭⲓ⳿ⲛϫⲟⲛⲥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲫϯ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲉⲣ⳿ⲡⲱⲃϣ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲡϧⲓⲥⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⲑⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲁⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛϩⲥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ ⳿ⲉⲁⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓⲁⲅⲓⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⲟⲛ.
10For God is not unjust, that he should forget your work, and the love which you have shewn in his name, you who have ministered, and do minister to the saints.
11ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛⲧⲁⲓ⳿ⲥⲡⲟⲩⲇⲏ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡϫⲱⲕ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲁⲓϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲥ ϣⲁ ϧⲁ⳿ⲉ.
11And we desire that every one of you shew forth the same carefulness to the accomplishing of hope unto the end:
12ϩⲓⲛⲁ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲱⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲏⲉⲧⲁⲩⲉⲣ⳿ⲕⲗⲏ ⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲓⲛ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓⲱϣ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲛⲁϩϯ ⲛⲉⲙ ϯⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ.
12That you become not slothful, but followers of them, who through faith and patience shall inherit the promises.
13ⲉⲧⲁ ⲫϯ ⲱϣ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲛⲁⲃⲣⲁⲁⲙ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲇⲏ ⲛⲉ ⳿ⲙⲧⲟⲛ ⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲉϥϭⲟⲥⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲑⲣⲉϥⲱⲣⲕ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁϥⲱⲣⲕ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
13For God making promise to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom he might swear, swore by himself,
14ⲉϥϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲥⲙⲟⲩ ϯⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲁϣⲁⲓ ϯⲛⲁ⳿ⲑⲣⲉ ⲡⲉⲕ⳿ϫⲣⲟϫ ⳿ⲁϣⲁⲓ.
14Saying: Unless blessing I shall bless thee, and multiplying I shall multiply thee.
15ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧⲁϥⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲁ ⲧⲟⲧϥ ϣⲁϣⲛⲓ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲱϣ.
15And so patiently enduring he obtained the promise.
16ⲛⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ϣⲁⲩⲱⲣⲕ ⲛⲁϩⲣⲉⲛ ⲛⲓⲛⲓϣϯ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲡϫⲱⲕ ⳿ⲛⲁⲛⲧⲓⲗⲟⲅⲓⲁ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲧⲁϫⲣⲟ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲁⲛⲁϣ.
16For men swear by one greater than themselves: and an oath for confirmation is the end of all their controversy.
17⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲓ ⲇⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⲫⲁⲓ ⳿ⲛϩⲟⲩ⳿ⲟ ⲉⲣⲉ ⲫϯ ⲟⲩⲱϣ ⳿ⲉⲧⲁⲙⲉ ⲛⲓ⳿ⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲱϣ ⳿ⲉϯⲙⲉⲧⲁⲧⲟⲩⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟϭⲛⲓ ⲁϥⲉⲣⲙⲉⲥⲓⲧⲏ ⲥ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲁⲛⲁϣ.
17Wherein God, meaning more abundantly to shew to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed an oath:
18ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ϩⲱⲃ ⲃ̅ ⳿ⲛⲁⲑⲟⲩⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⳿ϣϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ϫⲉ ⲙⲉⲑⲛⲟⲩϫ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲭⲱ ⲛⲁⲛ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟⲙϯ ⲉⲥϫⲟⲣ ϧⲁ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲁⲩⲫⲱⲧ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲁⲙⲟⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛϯϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲥ ⲉⲧⲭⲏ ⲛⲁϩⲣⲁⲛ.
18That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have the strongest comfort, who have fled for refuge to hold fast the hope set before us.
19ⲑⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲁⲩϫⲁⲗ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲯⲩⲭⲏ ⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲁⲧϣⲟϥⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉϥⲧⲁϫⲣⲏⲟⲩⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉϥⲛⲁ ⳿ⲉϧⲟⲩⲛ ϣⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲁϧⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲕⲁⲧⲁⲡⲉⲧⲁⲥⲙⲁ.
19Which we have as an anchor of the soul, sure and firm, and which entereth in even within the veil;
20ⲡⲓⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲁ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ϣⲉ ⳿ⲉϧⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡⲣⲟⲇⲣⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲓ ⳿ⲉϫⲱⲛ ⳿ⲉⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲁⲣⲭⲏⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⳿ⲧⲧⲁⲝⲓⲥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲉⲗⲭ ⲓⲥⲉⲇⲉⲕ
20Where the forerunner Jesus is entered for us, made a high priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedech.
