1以法莲 人对 基甸 说：「你去与 米甸 人争战，没有招我们同去，为什么这样待我们呢？」他们就与 基甸 大大地争吵。
1And the men of Ephraim said to him: What is this that thou meanest to do, that thou wouldst not call us when thou wentest to fight against Madian? and they chid him sharply and almost offered violence.
2基甸 对他们说：「我所行的岂能比你们所行的呢？ 以法莲 拾取剩下的葡萄不强过 亚比以谢 所摘的葡萄吗？
2And he answered them: What could I have done like to that which you have done? Is not one bunch of grapes of Ephraim better than the vintages of Abiezer?
3神已将 米甸 人的两个首领 俄立 和 西伊伯 交在你们手中；我所行的岂能比你们所行的呢？」 基甸 说了这话， 以法莲 人的怒气就消了。
3The Lord hath delivered into your bands the princes of Madian, Oreb and Zeb: what could I have done like to what you have done? And when he had said this, their spirit was appeased, with which they swelled against him.
4基甸 和跟随他的三百人到 约旦河 过渡，虽然疲乏，还是追赶。
4And when Gedeon was come to the Jordan, he passed over it with the three hundred men, that were with him: who were so weary that they could not pursue after them that fled.
5基甸 对 疏割 人说：「求你们拿饼来给跟随我的人吃，因为他们疲乏了；我们追赶 米甸 人的两个王 西巴 和 撒慕拿 。」
5And he said to the men of Soccoth: Give, I beseech you, bread to the people that is with me, for they are faint: that we may pursue Zebee, and Salmana the kings of Madian.
6疏割 人的首领回答说：「 西巴 和 撒慕拿 已经在你手里，你使我们将饼给你的军兵吗？」
6The princes of Soccoth answered: Peradventure the palms of the hands of Zebee and Salmana are in thy hand, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to thy army.
7基甸 说：「耶和华将 西巴 和 撒慕拿 交在我手之后，我就用野地的荆条和枳棘打伤你们。」
7And he said to them: When the Lord therefore shall have delivered Zebee and Salmana into my hands, I will thresh your flesh with the thorns and briers of the desert.
8基甸 从那里上到 毗努伊勒 ，对那里的人也是这样说； 毗努伊勒 人也与 疏割 人回答他的话一样。
8And going up from thence, he came to Phanuel: and he spoke the like things to the men of that place. And they also answered him, as the men of Soccoth had answered.
9他向 毗努伊勒 人说：「我平平安安回来的时候，我必拆毁这楼。」
9He said therefore to them also: When I shall return a conqueror in peace, I will destroy this tower.
10那时 西巴 和 撒慕拿 ，并跟随他们的军队都在 加各 ，约有一万五千人，就是东方人全军所剩下的；已经被杀约有十二万拿刀的。
10But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword, were slain.
11基甸 就由 挪巴 和 约比哈 东边，从住帐棚人的路上去，杀败了 米甸 人的军兵，因为他们坦然无惧。
11And Gedeon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents, on the east of Nobe and Jegbaa, and smote the camp of the enemies, who were secure, and suspected no hurt.
12西巴 和 撒慕拿 逃跑； 基甸 追赶他们，捉住 米甸 的二王 西巴 和 撒慕拿 ，惊散全军。
12And Zebee and Salmana fled, and Gedeon pursued and took them, all their host being put in confusion.
13约阿施 的儿子 基甸 由 希列斯 坡从阵上回来，
13And returning from the battle before the sun rising,
14捉住 疏割 的一个少年人，问他：「 疏割 的首领长老是谁？」他就将首领长老七十七个人的名字写出来。
14He took a boy of the men of Soccoth: and he asked him the names of the princes and ancients of Soccoth, and he described unto him seventy-seven men.
15基甸 到了 疏割 ，对那里的人说：「你们从前讥诮我说：『 西巴 和 撒慕拿 已经在你手里，你使我们将饼给 跟随 你的疲乏人吗？』现在 西巴 和 撒慕拿 在这里。」
15And he came to Soccoth and said to them: Behold Zebee and Salmana, concerning whom you upbraided me, saying: Peradventure the hands of Zebee and Salmana, are in thy hands, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to the men that are weary and faint.
16于是捉住那城内的长老，用野地的荆条和枳棘责打 疏割 人；
16So he took the ancients of the city and thorns and briers of the desert, and tore them with the same, and cut in pieces the men of Soccoth.
17又拆了 毗努伊勒 的楼，杀了那城里的人。
17And he demolished the tower of Phanuel, and slew the men of the city.
18基甸 问 西巴 和 撒慕拿 说：「你们在 他泊山 所杀的人是什么样式？」回答说：「他们好像你，各人都有王子的样式。」
18And he said to Zebee and Salmana: What manner of men were they whom you slew in Thabor? They answered: They were like thee, and one of them as the son of a king.
19基甸 说：「他们是我同母的弟兄，我指着永生的耶和华起誓，你们从前若存留他们的性命，我如今就不杀你们了。」
19He answered them: They were my brethren, the sons of my mother. As the Lord liveth, if you had saved them, I would not kill you.
20于是对他的长子 益帖 说：「你起来杀他们。」但 益帖 因为是童子，害怕，不敢拔刀。
20And he said to Jether his eldest son: Arise, and slay them. But he drew not his sword: for he was afraid, being but yet a boy.
21西巴 和 撒慕拿 说：「你自己起来杀我们吧！因为人如何，力量也是如何。」 基甸 就起来，杀了 西巴 和 撒慕拿 ，夺获他们骆驼项上戴的月牙圈。
21And Zebee and Salmana said: Do thou rise, and run upon us: because the strength of a man is according to his age: Gedeon rose up and slew Zebee and Salmana: and he took the ornaments and bosses, with which the necks of the camels of kings are wont to be adorned.
22以色列 人对 基甸 说：「你既救我们脱离 米甸 人的手，愿你和你的儿孙管理我们。」
22And all the men of Israel said to Gedeon: Rule thou over us and thy son, and thy son’s son: because thou hast delivered us from the hand of Madian.
23基甸 说：「我不管理你们，我的儿子也不管理你们，惟有耶和华管理你们。」
23And he said to them: I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you, but the Lord shall rule over you.
24基甸 又对他们说：「我有一件事求你们：请你们各人将所夺的耳环给我。」（原来仇敌是 以实玛利 人，都是戴金耳环的。）
24And he said to them: I desire one request of you: Give me the earlets of your spoils. For the Ismaelites were accustomed to wear golden earlets.
25他们说：「我们情愿给你」，就铺开一件外衣，各人将所夺的耳环丢在其上。
25They answered: We will give them most willingly. And spreading a mantle on the ground, they cast upon it the earlets of the spoils.
26基甸 所要出来的金耳环重一千七百 舍客勒 金子。此外还有 米甸 王所戴的月环、耳坠，和所穿的紫色衣服，并骆驼项上的 金 链子。
26And the weight of the earlets that he requested, was a thousand seven hundred sicles of gold, besides the ornaments, and jewels, and purple raiment which the kings of Madian were went to use, and besides the golden chains that were about the camels’ necks.
27基甸 以此制造了一个以弗得，设立在本城 俄弗拉 。后来 以色列 人拜那以弗得行了邪淫；这就作了 基甸 和他全家的网罗。
27And Gedeon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city Ephra. And all Israel committed fornication with it, and it became a ruin to Gedeon and to all his house.
28这样， 米甸 人被 以色列 人制伏了，不敢再抬头。 基甸 还在的日子，国中太平四十年。
28But Madian was humbled before the children of Israel, neither could they any more lift up their beads: but the land rested for forty years, while Gedeon presided.
29约阿施 的儿子 耶路·巴力 回去，住在自己家里。
29So Jerobaal the son of Joas went, and dwelt in his own house.
30基甸 有七十个亲生的儿子，因为他有许多的妻。
30And he had seventy sons, who came out of his thigh, for he had many wives.
31他的妾住在 示剑 ，也给他生了一个儿子。 基甸 与他起名叫 亚比米勒 。
31And his concubine, that he had in Sichem, bore him a son, whose name was Abimelech.
32约阿施 的儿子 基甸 ，年纪老迈而死，葬在 亚比以谢 族的 俄弗拉 ，在他父亲 约阿施 的坟墓里。
32And Gedeon the son of Joas died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father in Ephra of the family of Ezri.
33基甸 死后， 以色列 人又去随从诸 巴力 行邪淫，以 巴力·比利土 为他们的神。
33But after Gedeon was dead, the children of Israel turned again, and committed fornication with Baalim. And they made a covenant with Baal, that he should be their god:
34以色列 人不记念耶和华—他们的 神，就是拯救他们脱离四围仇敌之手的，
34And they remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies round about:
35也不照着 耶路·巴力 ，就是 基甸 向他们所施的恩惠厚待他的家。
35Neither did they shew mercy to the house of Jerobaal Gedeon, according to all the good things he had done to Israel.
