Patukkung 10
Asang Khongca Bible (Eastern Khumi Chin, 2019)
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
1Kadueh taksae mah hmuihoih tui to hmuisae ah angcoengsak baktih toengah, kamthu khosakhaih mah palunghahaih hoi ahmin kahoih pakoehhaih to amrosak.
1Dead flies make the ointment of the perfumer fetid and putrid; so doth a little folly outweigh wisdom and honour.
2Palungha kami ih palung loe bantang bangah oh, toe kamthu ih palung loe banqoi bangah oh.
2A wise man's understanding is at his right hand; but a fool's understanding at his left.
3Ue, kamthu loe lamcaeh naah doeh, amthuhaih to amtueng moe, angmah amthuhaih to minawk boih khaeah thuih.
3Yea also, when a fool walketh by the way, his understanding faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
4Ukkung mah palung ang phui thuih naah, na ohhaih ahmuen to caeh taak hmah; angdaehahih mah kalen sakpazaehaih to dipsak.
4If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for gentleness allayeth great offences.
5Ukkung khae hoiah sakpazaehaih tacawt baktih toengah, ni tlim ah ka hnuk ih hmuen kasae to oh.
5There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, like an error which proceedeth from a ruler:
6Angraeng mah ahmuen kahnaem ah anghnut naah, kamthu loe kasang ahmuen ah anghnut lat.
6Folly is set on great heights, and the rich sit in low place.
7Angraengnawk khok hoiah amkaeh o naah, tamnanawk mah hrang nuiah angthueng o lat.
7I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
8Qumqai kami loe tangqom thungah krah tih; sipae phrae kami loe pahui mah patuk tih.
8He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh through a fence, a serpent shall bite him.
9Thlung takhoe kami loe nganbawh kana hak tih; thing khuek kami loe ahmaa caa tih.
9Whoso quarrieth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood is endangered thereby.
10Caka to kanoe ah taak ai nahaeloe, tha ueng han angaih; toe palunghahaih mah atho ohhaih loklam to hnuksak.
10If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength; but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11Pahui to adoi hoiah na sak cadoeh na patuk tih, lokpunghaih loe amekhaih tidoeh om ai.
11If the serpent bite before it is charmed, then the charmer hath no advantage.
12Palungha kami ih pakha thung hoiah tacawt loknawk loe tahmenhaih to oh, toe kamthu loe angmah ih pahni mah paaeh.
12The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
13Anih pakha hoi tacawt tangsuek lok loe amthuhaih hoiah amtong, anih ih lokpaeh boenghaih loe kasae amthuhaih ah oh.
13The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is grievous madness.
14Kamthu loe lok pung, kami mah angzo han koi hmuen to thui thai ai; anih hmabang ah timaw om tih, tiah mi mah maw thui thai tih?
14A fool also multiplieth words; yet man knoweth not what shall be; and that which shall be after him, who can tell him?
15Vangpui thungah caehhaih loklam to panoek ai baktih toengah, kamthu toksakhaih mah kaminawk angphosak boih.
15The labour of fools wearieth every one of them, for he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16Nawkta ukkung siangpahrang ohhaih prae, khawnthaw ah buh raenghhaih poih sah angraengnawk ohhaih prae, nang loe khosak bing!
16Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a boy, and thy princes feast in the morning!
17Khingya han koi kaom imthung takoh hoiah tapen siangpahrang ohhaih prae, mu kanae hmoek ai, tha oh hanah atue phak naah buh kacaa angraengnawk ohhaih prae, nang loe tahamhoih.
17Happy art thou, O land, when thy king is a free man, and thy princes eat in due season, in strength, and not in drunkenness!
18Thasethaih mah im to hmawnsak; bantha set pongah im loe kho longh.
18By slothfulness the rafters sink in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.
19Pahnuih hanah ni poih to sak, mu mah kami poeknawmsak; toe phoisa mah hmuenmae to qan thaih boih.
19A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh glad the life; and money answereth all things.
20Siangpahrang to palung thung hoiah doeh pasoih hmah; angraengnawk doeh na iihhaih ahmuen hoiah pasoih hmah; van ih tavaa mah na lok to sin ueloe, pakhraeh kaom tavaa mah thui pae moeng tih.
20Curse not the king, no, not in thy thought, and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber; for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
