Clementine Vulgate, 1598
1Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.
1In finem. Intellectus filiis Core.
2The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.
2[Quemadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.
3The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness.
3Sitivit anima mea ad Deum fortem, vivum; quando veniam, et apparebo ante faciem Dei?
4I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You.”
4Fuerunt mihi lacrimæ meæ panes die ac nocte, dum dicitur mihi quotidie: Ubi est Deus tuus?
5My enemies say with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?”
5Hæc recordatus sum, et effudi in me animam meam, quoniam transibo in locum tabernaculi admirabilis, usque ad domum Dei, in voce exsultationis et confessionis, sonus epulantis.
6My visitor speaks falsehood; he gathers slander in his heart; he goes out and spreads it abroad.
6Quare tristis es, anima mea? et quare conturbas me? Spera in Deo, quoniam adhuc confitebor illi, salutare vultus mei,
7All who hate me whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me:
7et Deus meus. Ad meipsum anima mea conturbata est: propterea memor ero tui de terra Jordanis et Hermoniim a monte modico.
8“A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!”
8Abyssus abyssum invocat, in voce cataractarum tuarum; omnia excelsa tua, et fluctus tui super me transierunt.
9Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
9In die mandavit Dominus misericordiam suam, et nocte canticum ejus; apud me oratio Deo vitæ meæ.
10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them.
10Dicam Deo: Susceptor meus es; quare oblitus es mei? et quare contristatus incedo, dum affligit me inimicus?
11By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
11Dum confringuntur ossa mea, exprobraverunt mihi qui tribulant me inimici mei, dum dicunt mihi per singulos dies: Ubi est Deus tuus?
12In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever.
12Quare tristis es, anima mea? et quare conturbas me? Spera in Deo, quoniam adhuc confitebor illi, salutare vultus mei, et Deus meus.]
13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
