Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
1Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
1“Ko ia ʻoku ou kole kiate koe ʻe Siope, fakafanongo ki heʻeku ngaahi fakamatala, mo ke tokanga ki heʻeku lea kotoa pē.
2Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
2Vakai, kuo u faʻai eni ʻa hoku ngutu, kuo lea ʻa hoku ʻelelo ʻi hoku ngutu.
3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
3Te u lea au mei he totonu ʻo hoku loto: pea ʻe mahino ʻae ʻilo ʻe lea ʻaki ʻe hoku loungutu.
4The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
4Naʻe ngaohi au ʻe he Laumālie ʻoe ʻOtua, pea ko e mānava ʻoe Māfimafi kuo ne foaki ʻae moʻui kiate au.
5If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
5Kapau te ke faʻa tali au, pea fokotuʻu hokohoko pe hoʻo ngaahi lea, tuʻu hake ʻi hoku ʻao.
6Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
6Vakai, ʻoku ou tatau mo koe ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua: kuo ngaohi foki au mei he ʻumea.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
7‌ʻE ʻikai fakamanavahēʻi koe ʻe haʻaku fakailifia, pea ʻe ʻikai mamafa ʻa hoku nima kiate koe.
8Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying ,
8“Ko e moʻoni kuo ke lea ʻi hoku telinga, pea kuo u ongoʻi ʻae leʻo ʻo hoʻo ngaahi lea, ʻo pehē,
9I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
9‘ʻOku ou maʻa taʻehaangahala, ʻoku ou māʻoniʻoni; pea ʻoku ʻikai ha hia ʻiate au.
10Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
10Vakai, ʻoku ne kumi ʻae meʻa ke u kovi ai, ʻoku ne lauʻi au ko hono fili,
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
11‌ʻOku ne ʻai hoku vaʻe ki he meʻa fakamaʻu vaʻe, ʻoku ne vakaiʻi ʻa hoku ʻalunga kotoa pē.’
12Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
12“Vakai eni, ʻoku ʻikai te ke tonuhia: te u talia koe, he ʻoku lahi ʻae ʻOtua ki he tangata.
13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
13He ko e hā ʻoku ke fai ai mo ia? Koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai fakahā ʻe ia ʻae ʻuhinga ʻo ʻene ngaahi ngāue.
14For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
14Ka ʻoku lea ʻae ʻOtua ʻo tuʻo taha, ʻio, ʻo tuʻo ua, ka ʻoku ʻikai tokangaʻi ia ʻe he tangata.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
15‌ʻI he misi, ʻi he meʻa hā mai ʻoe poʻuli, ʻi he tō ʻae mohe maʻu ki he kakai, ʻi he tulemohe ʻi he mohenga;
16Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
16‌ʻOku ne toki fakaongo ʻae telinga ʻoe kakai, ʻo ne pulusi ʻa honau akonakiʻi,
17That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
17Koeʻuhi ke ne taʻofi ʻae tangata mei heʻene ngāue ʻaʻana, pea fufū ʻae fielahi mei he tangata.
18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
18‌ʻOku ne taʻofi mai hono laumālie mei he luo, mo ʻene moʻui ke ʻoua naʻa ʻauha ʻi he heletā.
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
19Pea ʻoku ne tautea foki ia ʻaki ʻae mamahi ʻi hono mohenga, mo hono ngaahi hui ʻaki ʻae mamahi lahi:
20So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
20Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ai ʻene moʻui ki he mā, mo hono laumālie ki he meʻakai ifo lelei.
21His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
21‌ʻOku fakaʻaʻau ʻo ʻosi ʻa hono kakano, ʻo ʻikai ʻiloa; pea ʻoku tuʻu mai hono ngaahi hui naʻe ʻikai hā mai.
22Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
22‌ʻIo, ʻoku ʻunuʻunu atu hono laumālie ki he faʻitoka, mo ʻene moʻui ki he kau fakaʻauha.
23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
23“Kapau ʻe ʻiate ia ha faifekau, ko e fakamatala, ko e taha mei he toko taha afe, ke fakahā ki he tangata ʻene māʻoniʻoni:
24Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
24‌ʻOku toki ʻaloʻofa ai ia kiate ia, ʻo ne pehē, “Fakamoʻui ia mei he ʻalu hifo ki he luo: kuo u ʻiloʻi ʻae huhuʻi.”
25His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
25‌ʻE moʻui lelei hake hono sino ʻi ha tamasiʻi: ʻe toe foki ia ki he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo ʻene kei siʻi:
26He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
26‌ʻE lotu ia ki he ʻOtua, pea ʻe tokanga ia ki ai: pea ʻe mamata ia ki hono fofonga ʻi he fiefia: he te ne totongi ki he tangata ʻa ʻene māʻoniʻoni.
27He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
27‌ʻOku ne vakai ki he kakai, pea ka pehē ʻe ha taha, ‘Kuo u angahala, pea fakakehe ʻaia ʻoku totonu, pea kuo taʻeʻaonga ia kiate au;
28He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
28‌ʻE fakahaofi ʻe ia ʻa hono laumālie ke ʻoua naʻa ʻalu hifo ki he luo, pea ʻe mamata ʻene moʻui ki he maama.
29Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
29“Vakai, ʻoku faʻa fai ʻe he ʻOtua ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē koeʻuhi ko e tangata,
30To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
30Ke ne toe ʻomi ai hono laumālie mei he luo, pea ne fakamaama ia ʻaki ʻae maama ʻoe moʻui.
31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
31Tokanga, ʻe Siope, fakafanongo kiate au: ke ke longo pe, kau lea.
32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
32Kapau ʻoku ai haʻo lea, tali mai: lea, he ko hoku loto ke ke tonuhia.
33If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
33Kapau ʻoku ʻikai, fakafanongo kiate au: ke ke longo pē, kau akonekina koe ke ke poto.
