1And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him: 'Up, make us a god who shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.'
1百姓見 摩西 遲延不下山，就大家聚集到 亞倫 那裏，對他說：「起來！為我們做神 像 ，可以在我們前面引路；因為領我們出 埃及 地的那個 摩西 ，我們不知道他遭了甚麼事。」
2And Aaron said unto them: 'Break off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.'
2亞倫 對他們說：「你們去摘下你們妻子、兒女耳上的金環，拿來給我。」
3And all the people broke off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
3百姓就都摘下他們耳上的金環，拿來給 亞倫 。
4And he received it at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said: 'This is thy god, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'
4亞倫 從他們手裏接過來，鑄了一隻牛犢，用雕刻的器具做成。他們就說：「 以色列 啊，這是領你出 埃及 地的神。」
5And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said: 'To-morrow shall be a feast to the LORD.'
5亞倫 看見，就在牛犢面前築壇，且宣告說：「明日要向耶和華守節。」
6And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to make merry.
6次日清早，百姓起來獻燔祭和平安祭，就坐下吃喝，起來玩耍。
7And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Go, get thee down; for thy people, that thou broughtest up out of the land of Egypt, have dealt corruptly;
7耶和華吩咐 摩西 說：「下去吧，因為你的百姓，就是你從 埃及 地領出來的，已經敗壞了。
8they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it, and said: This is thy god, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'
8他們快快偏離了我所吩咐的道，為自己鑄了一隻牛犢，向它下拜獻祭，說：『 以色列 啊，這就是領你出 埃及 地的神。』」
9And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people.
9耶和華對 摩西 說：「我看這百姓真是硬着頸項的百姓。
10Now therefore let Me alone, that My wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of thee a great nation.'
10你且由着我，我要向他們發烈怒，將他們滅絕，使你的後裔成為大國。」
11And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, why doth Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, that Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
11摩西 便懇求耶和華－他的上帝說：「耶和華啊，你為甚麼向你的百姓發烈怒呢？這百姓是你用大力和大能的手從 埃及 地領出來的。
12Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, saying: For evil did He bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from Thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against Thy people.
12為甚麼使 埃及 人議論說『他領他們出去，是要降禍與他們，把他們殺在山中，將他們從地上除滅』？求你轉意，不發你的烈怒，後悔，不降禍與你的百姓。
13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou didst swear by Thine own self, and saidst unto them: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.'
13求你記念你的僕人 亞伯拉罕 、 以撒 、 以色列 。你曾指着自己起誓說：『我必使你們的後裔像天上的星那樣多，並且我所應許的這全地，必給你們的後裔，他們要永遠承受為業。』」
14And the LORD repented of the evil which He said He would do unto His people.
14於是耶和華後悔，不把所說的禍降與他的百姓。
15And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
15摩西 轉身下山，手裏拿着兩塊法版。這版是兩面寫的，這面那面都有字，
16And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
16是上帝的工作，字是上帝寫的，刻在版上。
17And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses: 'There is a noise of war in the camp.'
17約書亞 一聽見百姓呼喊的聲音，就對 摩西 說：「在營裏有爭戰的聲音。」
18And he said: 'It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome, but the noise of them that sing do I hear.'
18摩西 說：「這不是人打勝仗的聲音，也不是人打敗仗的聲音；我所聽見的乃是人歌唱的聲音。」
19And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.
19摩西 挨近營前就看見牛犢，又看見人跳舞，便發烈怒，把兩塊版扔在山下摔碎了，
20And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
20又將他們所鑄的牛犢用火焚燒，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫 以色列 人喝。
21And Moses said unto Aaron: 'What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought a great sin upon them?'
21摩西 對 亞倫 說：「這百姓向你做了甚麼？你竟使他們陷在大罪裏！」
22And Aaron said: 'Let not the anger of my lord wax hot; thou knowest the people, that they are set on evil.
22亞倫 說：「求我主不要發烈怒。這百姓 專於 作惡，是你知道的。
23So they said unto me: Make us a god, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.
23他們對我說：『你為我們做神 像 ，可以在我們前面引路；因為領我們出 埃及 地的那個 摩西 ，我們不知道他遭了甚麼事。』
24And I said unto them: Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off; so they gave it me; and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.'
24我對他們說：『凡有金環的可以摘下來』，他們就給了我。我把金環扔在火中，這牛犢便出來了。」
25And when Moses saw that the people were broken loose — for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies —
25摩西 見百姓放肆（ 亞倫 縱容他們，使他們在仇敵中間被譏刺），
26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said: 'Whoso is on the LORD'S side, let him come unto me.' And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
26就站在營門中，說：「凡屬耶和華的，都 要到 我這裏來！」於是 利未 的子孫都到他那裏聚集。
27And he said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Put ye every man his sword upon his thigh, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.'
27他對他們說：「耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝這樣說：『你們各人把刀跨在腰間，在營中往來，從這門到那門，各人殺他的弟兄與同伴並鄰舍。』」
28And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
28利未 的子孫照 摩西 的話行了。那一天百姓中被殺的約有三千。
29And Moses said: 'Consecrate yourselves to-day to the LORD, for every man hath been against his son and against his brother; that He may also bestow upon you a blessing this day.'
29摩西 說：「今天你們要自潔，歸耶和華為聖，各人攻擊他的兒子和弟兄，使耶和華賜福與你們。」
30And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people: 'Ye have sinned a great sin; and now I will go up unto the LORD, peradventure I shall make atonement for your sin.'
30到了第二天， 摩西 對百姓說：「你們犯了大罪。我如今要上耶和華那裏去，或者可以為你們贖罪。」
31And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them a god of gold.
31摩西 回到耶和華那裏，說：「唉！這百姓犯了大罪，為自己做了金像。
32Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin — ; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.'
32倘或你肯赦免他們的罪......不然，求你從你所寫的冊上塗抹我的名。」
33And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.
33耶和華對 摩西 說：「誰得罪我，我就從我的冊上塗抹誰的名。
34And now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee; behold, Mine angel shall go before thee; nevertheless in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.'
34現在你去領這百姓，往我所告訴你的 地方 去，我的使者必在你前面引路；只是到我追討的日子，我必追討他們的罪。」
35And the LORD smote the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
35耶和華殺百姓的緣故是因他們同 亞倫 做了牛犢。
