1七つの鉢を持つ七人の御使いの一人が来て、私に語りかけた。「ここに来なさい。多くの水の上に座る大淫婦への裁きを見せよう。
1One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters,
2地上の王たちは彼女と淫行を行い、地上に住む者たちは彼女の淫行のぶどう酒に酔わされた。」
2with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality. Those who dwell on the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality.”
3御使いは、御霊によって私を荒野へ連れて行った。そこで私は、神を冒涜する名で覆われ、七つの頭と十本の角を持つ緋色の獣に、一人の女が乗っているのを見た。
3He carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.
4女は紫と緋色の衣をまとい、金、宝石、真珠で身を飾っていた。その手には、忌まわしいものと、その淫行の汚れとで満ちた金の杯を持っていた。
4The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of the sexual immorality of the earth.
5その額には、名がこう書かれていた。「奥義、大バビロン、淫婦たちと地の忌まわしいものの母。」
5And on her forehead a name was written, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
6私は、その女が聖徒たちの血と、イエスの殉教者たちの血に酔っているのを見た。彼女を見て、私は驚きに打たれた。
6I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.
7すると御使いが私に言った。「なぜ驚くのか。女の奥義と、彼女を乗せている、七つの頭と十本の角を持つ獣の奥義を、あなたに教えよう。
7The angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
8あなたが見た獣は、かつてはいたが、今はいない。しかし、底知れぬ所から上って来て、滅びへ向かう。世の初めから命の書に名が記されていない地上の住民は、獣が、かつてはいたが、今はいないのに、やがて現れるのを見て驚く。
8The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present.
9ここに、知恵ある理解が必要である。七つの頭は、女がその上に座っている七つの山である。
9Here is the mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.
10また、七人の王でもある。五人は倒れ、一人は今おり、もう一人はまだ来ていない。しかし、彼が来れば、しばらくとどまらなければならない。
10They are seven kings. Five have fallen, the one is, and the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must continue a little while.
11かつてはいたが、今はいない獣は、それ自身が第八の王であり、七人のうちの一人でもある。そして滅びへ向かう。
11The beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goes to destruction.
12あなたが見た十本の角は、まだ王国を受けていない十人の王である。彼らは獣とともに、一時の間、王としての権威を受ける。
12The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.
13彼らは一つの思いを持ち、自分たちの力と権威を獣に与える。
13These have one mind, and they give their power and authority to the beast.
14彼らは小羊と戦うが、小羊は彼らに打ち勝つ。小羊は主の主、王の王だからである。また、小羊とともにいる者たちは、召され、選ばれ、忠実な者たちである。」
14These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
15御使いはまた私に言った。「あなたが見た水、大淫婦が座っている所は、諸民族、群衆、国民、言語である。
15He said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.
16あなたが見た十本の角と獣は大淫婦を憎み、彼女を荒れ果てさせ、裸にし、その肉を食らい、火で焼き尽くす。
16The ten horns which you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute, will make her desolate, will strip her naked, will eat her flesh, and will burn her utterly with fire.
17神がご自分の御心を実現させるため、彼らの心に一つの思いを持たせ、神の言葉が成就するまで、自分たちの王国を獣に与えさせたからである。
17For God has put in their hearts to do what he has in mind, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished.
18あなたが見た女は、地上の王たちを治める大きな都である。」
18The woman whom you saw is the great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
