1These are the words, which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan, in the plain wilderness, over against the Red Sea, between Pharan and Thophel and Laban and Haseroth, where there is very much gold:
1以下所记的是 摩西 在 约旦河 东的旷野、 疏弗 对面的 亚拉巴 —就是 巴兰 、 陀弗 、 拉班 、 哈洗录 、 底撒哈 中间—向 以色列 众人所说的话。（
2Eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Cadesbarne.
2从 何烈山 经过 西珥山 到 加低斯·巴尼亚 有十一天的 路程 。）
3In the fortieth year, the eleventh month, the first day of the month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel all that the Lord had commanded him to say to them:
3出 埃及 第四十年十一月初一日， 摩西 照耶和华借着他所吩咐 以色列 人的话都晓谕他们。
4After that he had slain Sehon king of the Amorrhites, who dwelt in Hesebon: and Og king of Basan who abode in Astaroth, and in Edrai,
4那时，他已经击杀了住 希实本 的 亚摩利 王 西宏 和住 以得来 、 亚斯他录 的 巴珊 王 噩 。
5Beyond the Jordan in the land of Moab. And Moses began to expound the law, and to say:
5摩西 在 约旦河 东的 摩押 地讲律法说：
6The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: You have stayed long enough in this mountain:
6「耶和华—我们的 神在 何烈山 晓谕我们说：你们在这山上住的日子够了；
7Turn you, and come to the mountain of the Amorrhites, and to the other places that are next to it, the plains and the hills and the vales towards the south, and by the sea shore, the land of the Chanaanites, and of Libanus, as far as the great river Euphrates.
7要起行转到 亚摩利 人的山地和靠近这山地的各处，就是 亚拉巴 、山地、高原、南地，沿海一带 迦南 人的地，并 黎巴嫩山 又到 幼发拉底 大河。
8Behold, said he, I have delivered it to you: go in and possess it, concerning which the Lord swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that he would give it to them, and to their seed after them.
8如今我将这地摆在你们面前；你们要进去得这地，就是耶和华向你们列祖 亚伯拉罕 、 以撒 、 雅各 起誓应许赐给他们和他们后裔为业之地。」
9And I said to you at that time:
9「那时，我对你们说：『管理你们的重任，我独自担当不起。
10I alone am not able to bear you: for the Lord your God hath multiplied you, and you are this day as the stars of heaven, for multitude.
10耶和华—你们的 神使你们多起来。看哪，你们今日像天上的星那样多。
11(The Lord God of your fathers add to this number many thousands, and bless you as he hath spoken.)
11惟愿耶和华—你们列祖的 神使你们比如今更多千倍，照他所应许你们的话赐福与你们。
12I alone am not able to bear your business, and the charge of you and your differences.
12但你们的麻烦，和管理你们的重任，并你们的争讼，我独自一人怎能担当得起呢？
13Let me have from among you wise and understanding men, and such whose conversation is approved among your tribes, that I may appoint them your rulers.
13你们要按着各支派选举有智慧、有见识、为众人所认识的，我立他们为你们的首领。』
14Then you answered me: The thing is good which thou meanest to do.
14你们回答我说：『照你所说的行了为妙。』
15And I took out of your tribes men wise and honourable, and appointed them rulers, tribunes, and centurions, and officers over fifties, and over tens, who might teach you all things.
15我便将你们各支派的首领，有智慧、为众人所认识的，照你们的支派，立他们为官长、千夫长、百夫长、五十夫长、十夫长，管理你们。
16And I commanded them, saying: Hear them, and judge that which is just: whether he be one of your country, or a stranger.
16「当时，我嘱咐你们的审判官说：『你们听讼，无论是弟兄彼此争讼，是与同居的外人争讼，都要按公义判断。
17There shall be no difference of persons, you shall hear the little as well as the great: neither shall you respect any man’s person, because it is the judgment of God. And if any thing seem hard to you, refer it to me, and I will hear it.
17审判的时候，不可看人的外貌；听讼不可分贵贱，不可惧怕人，因为审判是属乎 神的。若有难断的案件，可以呈到我这里，我就判断。』
18And I commanded you all things that you were to do.
18那时，我将你们所当行的事都吩咐你们了。」
19And departing from Horeb, we passed through the terrible and vast wilderness, which you saw, by the way of the mountain of the Amorrhite, as the Lord our God had commanded us. And when we were come into Cadesbarne,
19「我们照着耶和华—我们 神所吩咐的从 何烈山 起行，经过你们所看见那大而可怕的旷野，往 亚摩利 人的山地去，到了 加低斯·巴尼亚 。
20I said to you: You are come to the mountain of the Amorrhite, which the Lord our God will give to us.
20我对你们说：『你们已经到了耶和华—我们 神所赐给我们的 亚摩利 人之山地。
21See the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord our God hath spoken to thy fathers: fear not, nor be any way discouraged.
21看哪，耶和华—你的 神已将那地摆在你面前，你要照耶和华—你列祖的 神所说的上去得那地为业；不要惧怕，也不要惊惶。』
22And you came all to me, and said: Let us send men who may view the land, and bring us word what way we shall go up, and to what cities we shall go.
22你们都就近我来说：『我们要先打发人去，为我们窥探那地，将我们上去该走何道，必进何城，都回报我们。』
23And because the saying pleased me, I sent of you twelve men, one of every tribe:
23这话我以为美，就从你们中间选了十二个人，每支派一人。
24Who, when they had set forward and had gone up to the mountains, came as far as the valley of the cluster: and having viewed the land,
24于是他们起身上山地去，到 以实各谷 ，窥探那地。
25Taking of the fruits thereof, to shew its fertility, they brought them to us, and said: The land is good, which the Lord our God will give us.
25他们手里拿着那地的果子下来，到我们那里，回报说：『耶和华—我们的 神所赐给我们的是美地。』
26And you would not go up, but being incredulous to the word of the Lord our God,
26「你们却不肯上去，竟违背了耶和华—你们 神的命令，
27You murmured in your tents, and said: The Lord hateth us, and therefore he hath brought us out of the land of Egypt, that he might deliver us into the hand of the Amorrhite, and destroy us.
27在帐棚内发怨言说：『耶和华因为恨我们，所以将我们从 埃及 地领出来，要交在 亚摩利 人手中，除灭我们。
28Whither shall we go up? the messengers have terrified our hearts, saying: The multitude is very great, and taller than we: the cities are great, and walled up to the sky, we have seen the sons of the Enacims there.
28我们上哪里去呢？我们的弟兄使我们的心消化，说那 地的 民比我们又大又高，城邑又广大又坚固，高得顶天，并且我们在那里看见 亚衲 族的人。』
29And I said to you: Fear not, neither be ye afraid of them:
29我就对你们说：『不要惊恐，也不要怕他们。
30The Lord God, who is your leader, himself will fight for you, as he did in Egypt in the sight of all.
30在你们前面行的耶和华—你们的 神必为你们争战，正如他在 埃及 和旷野，在你们眼前所行的一样。
31And in the wilderness (as thou hast seen) the Lord thy God hath carried thee, as a man is wont to carry his little son, all the way that you have come, until you came to this place.
31你们在旷野所行的路上，也曾见耶和华—你们的 神抚养你们，如同人抚养儿子一般，直等你们来到这地方。』
32And yet for all this you did not believe the Lord your God,
32你们在这事上却不信耶和华—你们的 神。
33Who went before you in the way, and marked out the place, wherein you should pitch your tents, in the night shewing you the way by fire, and in the day by the pillar of a cloud.
33他在路上，在你们前面行，为你们找安营的地方；夜间在火 柱 里，日间在云 柱 里，指示你们所当行的路。」
34And when the Lord had heard the voice of your words, he was angry and swore, and said:
34「耶和华听见你们这话，就发怒，起誓说：
35Not one of the men of this wicked generation shall see the good land, which I promised with an oath to your fathers:
35『这恶世代的人，连一个也不得见我起誓应许赐给你们列祖的美地；
36Except Caleb the son of Jephone: for he shall see it, and to him I will give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath followed the Lord.
36惟有 耶孚尼 的儿子 迦勒 必得看见，并且我要将他所踏过的地赐给他和他的子孙，因为他专心跟从我。』
37Neither is his indignation against the people to be wondered at, since the Lord was angry with me also on your account, and said: Neither shalt thou go in thither.
37耶和华为你的缘故也向我发怒，说：『你必不得进入那地。
38But Josue the son of Nun, thy minister, he shall go in for thee: exhort and encourage him, and he shall divide the land by lot to Israel.
38伺候你、 嫩 的儿子 约书亚 ，他必得进入那地；你要勉励他，因为他要使 以色列 人承受那地为业。
39Your children, of whom you said that they should be led away captives, and your sons who know not this day the difference of good and evil, they shall go in: and to them I will give the land, and they shall possess it.
39并且你们的 妇人 孩子，就是你们所说、必被掳掠的，和今日不知善恶的儿女，必进入那地。我要将那地赐给他们，他们必得为业。
40But return you and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.
40至于你们，要转回，从 红海 的路往旷野去。』
41And you answered me: We have sinned against the Lord: we will go up and fight, as the Lord our God hath commanded. And when you went ready armed unto the mountain,
41「那时，你们回答我说：『我们得罪了耶和华，情愿照耶和华—我们 神一切所吩咐的上去争战。』于是你们各人带着兵器，争先上山地去了。
42The Lord said to me: Say to them: Go not up, and fight not, for I am not with you: lest you fall before your enemies.
42耶和华吩咐我说：『你对他们说：不要上去，也不要争战；因我不在你们中间，恐怕你们被仇敌杀败了。』
43I spoke, and you hearkened not: but resisting the commandment of the Lord, and swelling with pride, you went up into the mountain.
43我就告诉了你们，你们却不听从，竟违背耶和华的命令，擅自上山地去了。
44And the Amorrhite that dwelt in the mountains coming out, and meeting you, chased you, as bees do: and made slaughter of you from Seir as far as Horma.
44住那山地的 亚摩利 人就出来攻击你们，追赶你们，如蜂拥一般，在 西珥 杀退你们，直到 何珥玛 。
45And when you returned and wept before the Lord, he heard you not, neither would he yield to; your voice.
45你们便回来，在耶和华面前哭号；耶和华却不听你们的声音，也不向你们侧耳。
46So you abode in Cadesbarne a long time.
46于是你们在 加低斯 住了许多日子。」
