1耶和華吩咐 摩西 說：「我曾起誓應許 亞伯拉罕 、 以撒 、 雅各 說：『要將 迦南 地賜給你的後裔。』現在你和你從 埃及 地所領出來的百姓，要從這裏往那地去。
1The LORD spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’
2我要差遣使者在你前面，攆出 迦南 人、 亞摩利 人、 赫 人、 比利洗 人、 希未 人、 耶布斯 人，
2I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
3領你到那流奶與蜜之地。我自己不同你們上去；因為你們是硬着頸項的百姓，恐怕我在路上把你們滅絕。」
3Go to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
4百姓聽見這凶信就悲哀，也沒有人佩戴妝飾。
4When the people heard this evil news, they mourned; and no one put on his jewelry.
5耶和華對 摩西 說：「你告訴 以色列 人說：『 耶和華說 ：你們是硬着頸項的百姓，我若一霎時臨到你們中間，必滅絕你們。現在你們要把身上的妝飾摘下來，使我可以知道怎樣待你們。』」
5The LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up among you for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.’”
6以色列 人從住 何烈山 以後，就把身上的妝飾摘得乾淨。
6The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
7摩西 素常將帳棚支搭在營外，離營卻遠，他稱這帳棚為會幕。凡求問耶和華的，就到營外的會幕那裏去。
7Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it “The Tent of Meeting.” Everyone who sought the LORD went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
8當 摩西 出營到 會 幕去的時候，百姓就都起來，各人站在自己帳棚的門口，望着 摩西 ，直等到他進了 會 幕。
8When Moses went out to the Tent, all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.
9摩西 進 會 幕的時候，雲柱降下來，立在 會 幕的門前， 耶和華 便與 摩西 說話。
9When Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and the LORD spoke with Moses.
10眾百姓看見雲柱立在 會 幕門前，就都起來，各人在自己帳棚的門口下拜。
10All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.
11耶和華與 摩西 面對面說話，好像人與朋友說話一般。 摩西 轉到營裏去，惟有他的幫手－一個少年人 嫩 的兒子 約書亞 不離開 會 幕。
11The LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart from the Tent.
12摩西 對耶和華說：「你吩咐我說：『將這百姓領上去』，卻沒有叫我知道你要打發誰與我同去，只說：『我按你的名認識你，你在我眼前也蒙了恩。』
12Moses said to the LORD, “Behold, you tell me, ‘Bring up this people;’ and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’
13我如今若在你眼前蒙恩，求你將你的道指示我，使我可以認識你，好在你眼前蒙恩。求你想到這民是你的民。」
13Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me your way, now, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight; and consider that this nation is your people.”
14耶和華說：「我必親自 和你同 去，使你得安息。」
14He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15摩西 說：「你若不親自 和我同 去，就不要把我們從這裏領上去。
15Moses said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.
16人在何事上得以知道我和你的百姓在你眼前蒙恩呢？豈不是因你與我們同去、使我和你的百姓與地上的萬民有分別嗎？」
16For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn’t it that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?”
17耶和華對 摩西 說：「你這所求的我也要行；因為你在我眼前蒙了恩，並且我按你的名認識你。」
17The LORD said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”
18摩西 說：「求你顯出你的榮耀給我看。」
18Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”
19耶和華說：「我要顯我一切的恩慈，在你面前經過，宣告我的名。我要恩待誰就恩待誰；要憐憫誰就憐憫誰」；
19He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the LORD’s name before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”
20又說：「你不能看見我的面，因為人見我的面不能存活。」
20He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”
21耶和華說：「看哪，在我這裏有地方，你要站在磐石上。
21The LORD also said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22我的榮耀經過的時候，我必將你放在磐石穴中，用我的手遮掩你，等我過去，
22It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;
23然後我要將我的手收回，你就得見我的背，卻不得見我的面。」
23then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”
