1参巴拉 、 多比雅 、 阿拉伯 人 基善 和我们其余的仇敌听见我已经修完了城墙，其中没有破裂之处（那时我还没有安门扇），
1Now it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah, and to Geshem the Arabian, and unto the rest of our enemies, that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein — though even unto that time I had not set up the doors in the gates —
2参巴拉 和 基善 就打发人来见我，说：「请你来，我们在 阿挪 平原的一个村庄相会。」他们却想害我。
2that Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying: 'Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.' But they thought to do me mischief.
3于是我差遣人去见他们，说：「我现在办理大工，不能下去。焉能停工下去见你们呢？」
3And I sent messengers unto them, saying: 'I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down; why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?'
4他们这样四次打发人来见我，我都如此回答他们。
4And they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.
5参巴拉 第五次打发仆人来见我，手里拿着未封的信，
5Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
6信上写着说：「外邦人中有风声， 迦施慕 也说，你和 犹大 人谋反，修造城墙，你要作他们的王；
6wherein was written: 'It is reported among the nations, and Geshem saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel; for which cause thou buildest the wall; and thou wouldest be their king, even according to these words.
7你又派先知在 耶路撒冷 指着你宣讲，说在 犹大 有王。现在这话必传与王知；所以请你来，与我们彼此商议。」
7And thou hast also appointed prophets to proclaim of thee at Jerusalem, saying: There is a king in Judah; and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.'
8我就差遣人去见他，说：「你所说的这事，一概没有，是你心里捏造的。」
8Then I sent unto him, saying: 'There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.'
9他们都要使我们惧怕，意思说，他们的手必软弱，以致工作不能成就。 神啊 ，求你坚固我的手。
9For they all would have us afraid, saying: 'Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done.' But now, strengthen Thou my hands.
10我到了 米希大别 的孙子、 第来雅 的儿子 示玛雅 家里；那时，他闭门不出。他说：「我们不如在 神的殿里会面，将殿门关锁；因为他们要来杀你，就是夜里来杀你。」
10And as for me, I went unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut up; and he said: 'Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.'
11我说：「像我这样的人岂要逃跑呢？像我这样的人岂能进入殿里保全生命呢？我不进去！」
11And I said: 'Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being such as I, could go into the temple and live? I will not go in.'
12我看明 神没有差遣他，是他自己说这话攻击我，是 多比雅 和 参巴拉 贿买了他。
12And I discerned, and, lo, God had not sent him; for he pronounced this prophecy against me, whereas Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
13贿买他的缘故，是要叫我惧怕，依从他犯罪，他们好传扬恶言毁谤我。
13For this cause was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might taunt me.
14我的 神啊， 多比雅 、 参巴拉 、女先知 挪亚底 ，和其余的先知要叫我惧怕，求你记念他们所行的这些事。
14Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have me put in fear.
15以禄 月 二十五 日 ，城墙修完了，共修了五十二天。
15So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
16我们一切仇敌、四围的外邦人听见了便惧怕，愁眉不展；因为见这工作完成是出乎我们的 神。
16And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard thereof, that all the nations that were about us feared, and were much cast down in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
17在那些日子， 犹大 的贵胄屡次寄信与 多比雅 ， 多比雅 也来 信 与他们。
17Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.
18在 犹大 有许多人与 多比雅 结盟；因他是 亚拉 的儿子， 示迦尼 的女婿，并且他的儿子 约哈难 娶了 比利迦 儿子 米书兰 的女儿为妻。
18For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah to wife.
19他们常在我面前说 多比雅 的善行，也将我的话传与他。 多比雅 又常寄信来，要叫我惧怕。
19Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
