1那时， 以色列 中没有王。 但 支派的人仍是寻地居住；因为到那日子，他们还没有在 以色列 支派中得地为业。
1In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of the Danites was looking for territory to occupy. For up to that time they had not come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
2但 人从 琐拉 和 以实陶 打发本族中的五个勇士，去仔细窥探那地，吩咐他们说：「你们去窥探那地。」他们来到 以法莲 山地，进了 米迦 的住宅，就在那里住宿。
2So the Danites sent out five men from their clans, men of valor from Zorah and Eshtaol, to spy out the land and explore it. “Go and explore the land,” they told them. The men entered the hill country of Ephraim and came to the house of Micah, where they spent the night.
3他们临近 米迦 的住宅，听出那少年 利未 人的口音来，就进去问他说：「谁领你到这里来？你在这里做什么？你在这里得什么？」
3And while they were near Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite; so they went over and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? Why are you here?”
4他回答说：「 米迦 待我如此如此，请我作祭司。」
4“Micah has done this and that for me,” he replied, “and he has hired me to be his priest.”
5他们对他说：「请你求问 神，使我们知道所行的道路通达不通达。」
5Then they said to him, “Please inquire of God to determine whether we will have a successful journey.”
6祭司对他们说：「你们可以平平安安地去，你们所行的道路是在耶和华面前的。」
6And the priest told them, “Go in peace. The LORD is watching over your journey.”
7五人就走了，来到 拉亿 ，见那里的民安居无虑，如同 西顿 人安居一样。在那地没有人掌权扰乱他们；他们离 西顿 人也远，与别人没有来往。
7So the five men departed and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living securely, like the Sidonians, tranquil and unsuspecting. There was nothing lacking in the land and no oppressive ruler. And they were far away from the Sidonians and had no alliance with anyone.
8五人回到 琐拉 和 以实陶 ，见他们的弟兄；弟兄问他们说：「你们有什么话？」
8When the men returned to Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers asked them, “What did you find?”
9他们回答说：「起来，我们上去攻击他们吧！我们已经窥探那地，见那地甚好。你们为何静坐不动呢？要急速前往得那地为业，不可迟延。
9They answered, “Come on, let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and it is very good. Why would you fail to act? Do not hesitate to go there and take possession of the land!
10你们到了那里，必看见安居无虑的民，地也宽阔。 神已将那地交在你们手中；那地百物俱全，一无所缺。」
10When you enter, you will come to an unsuspecting people and a spacious land, for God has delivered it into your hand. It is a place where nothing on earth is lacking.”
11于是 但 族中的六百人，各带兵器，从 琐拉 和 以实陶 前往，
11So six hundred Danites departed from Zorah and Eshtaol, armed with weapons of war.
12上到 犹大 的 基列·耶琳 ，在 基列·耶琳 后边安营。因此那地方名叫 玛哈尼·但 ，直到今日。
12They went up and camped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. That is why the place west of Kiriath-jearim is called Mahaneh-dan to this day.

13And from there they traveled to the hill country of Ephraim and came to Micah’s house.
14从前窥探 拉亿 地的五个人对他们的弟兄说：「这宅子里有以弗得和家中的神像，并雕刻的像与铸成的像，你们知道吗？现在你们要想一想当怎样行。」
14Then the five men who had gone to spy out the land of Laish said to their brothers, “Did you know that one of these houses has an ephod, household gods, a graven image, and a molten idol? Now think about what you should do.”
15五人就进入 米迦 的住宅，到了那少年 利未 人的房内问他好。
15So they turned aside there and went to the home of the young Levite, the house of Micah, and greeted him.
16那六百 但 人各带兵器，站在门口。
16The six hundred Danites stood at the entrance of the gate, armed with their weapons of war.
17窥探地的五个人走进去，将雕刻的像、以弗得、家中的神像，并铸成的像，都拿了去。祭司和带兵器的六百人，一同站在门口。
17And the five men who had gone to spy out the land went inside and took the graven image, the ephod, the household idols, and the molten idol, while the priest stood at the entrance of the gate with the six hundred armed men.
18那五个人进入 米迦 的住宅，拿出雕刻的像、以弗得、家中的神像，并铸成的像，祭司就问他们说：「你们做什么呢？」
18When they entered Micah’s house and took the graven image, the ephod, the household idols, and the molten idol, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”
19他们回答说：「不要作声，用手捂口，跟我们去吧！我们必以你为父、为祭司。你作一家的祭司好呢？还是作 以色列 一族一支派的祭司好呢？」
19“Be quiet,” they told him. “Put your hand over your mouth and come with us and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest for the house of one person or a priest for a tribe and family in Israel?”
20祭司心里喜悦，便拿着以弗得和家中的神像，并雕刻的像，进入他们中间。
20So the priest was glad and took the ephod, the household idols, and the graven image, and went with the people.
21他们就转身离开那里，妻子、儿女、牲畜、财物都在前头。
21Putting their small children, their livestock, and their possessions in front of them, they turned and departed.
22离 米迦 的住宅已远， 米迦 的近邻都聚集来，追赶 但 人，
22After they were some distance from Micah’s house, the men in the houses near Micah’s house mobilized and overtook the Danites.
23呼叫 但 人。 但 人回头问 米迦 说：「你聚集这许多人来做什么呢？」
23When they called out after them, the Danites turned to face them and said to Micah, “What is the matter with you that you have called out such a company?”
24米迦 说：「你们将我所做的神像和祭司都带了去，我还有所剩的吗？怎么还问我说『做什么』呢？」
24He replied, “You took the gods I had made, and my priest, and went away. What else do I have? How can you say to me, ‘What is the matter with you?’”
25但 人对 米迦 说：「你不要使我们听见你的声音，恐怕有性暴的人攻击你，以致你和你的全家尽都丧命。」
25The Danites said to him, “Do not raise your voice against us, or angry men will attack you, and you and your family will lose your lives.”
26但 人还是走他们的路。 米迦 见他们的势力比自己强盛，就转身回家去了。
26So the Danites went on their way, and Micah turned to go back home, because he saw that they were too strong for him.
27但 人将 米迦 所做的 神像 和他的祭司都带到 拉亿 ，见安居无虑的民，就用刀杀了那民，又放火烧了那城，
27After they had taken Micah’s idols and his priest, they went to Laish, to a tranquil and unsuspecting people, and they struck them with their swords and burned down the city.
28并无人搭救；因为离 西顿 远，他们又与别人没有来往。城在平原，那平原靠近 伯·利合 。 但 人又在那里修城居住，
28There was no one to deliver them, because the city was far from Sidon and had no alliance with anyone; it was in a valley near Beth-rehob. And the Danites rebuilt the city and lived there.
29照着他们始祖 以色列 之子 但 的名字，给那城起名叫 但 ；原先那城名叫 拉亿 。
29They named it Dan, after their forefather Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city was formerly named Laish.
30但 人就为自己设立那雕刻的像。 摩西 的孙子、 革舜 的儿子 约拿单 ，和他的子孙作 但 支派的祭司，直到那地遭掳掠的日子。
30The Danites set up idols for themselves, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
31神的殿在 示罗 多少日子， 但 人为自己设立 米迦 所雕刻的像也在 但 多少日子。
31So they set up for themselves Micah’s graven image, and it was there the whole time the house of God was in Shiloh.
