1A mensagem que o profeta Jeremias falou a Baruque, filho de Nerias, quando ele escreveu estas palavras em um livro, ditadas por Jeremias, no quarto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, dizendo:
1The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:
2“Assim diz o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, a você, Baruque:
2'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning thee, O Baruch: Thou didst say:
3‘Você disse: “Ai de mim agora! Pois o SENHOR acrescentou tristeza à minha dor! Estou cansado do meu gemido, e não encontro descanso.”’
3Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.
4“Você dirá a ele: Assim diz o SENHOR: ‘Eis que aquilo que edifiquei, eu derrubarei, e aquilo que plantei, eu arrancarei; e isso em toda a terra.
4Thus shalt thou say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.
5Você busca grandes coisas para si mesmo? Não as busque; pois, eis que trarei o mal sobre toda a carne’, diz o SENHOR, ‘mas eu deixarei que você escape com vida por onde quer que vá.’”
5And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.'
