1Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, àqueles que conosco obtiveram uma fé igualmente preciosa na justiça do nosso Deus e Salvador, Jesus Cristo:
1Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2Graça e paz lhes sejam multiplicadas no pleno conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, nosso Senhor,
2Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord:
3visto que o seu divino poder nos concedeu tudo o que diz respeito à vida e à piedade, pelo pleno conhecimento daquele que nos chamou para a sua própria glória e virtude,
3As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue.
4pelas quais ele nos concedeu as suas preciosas e grandíssimas promessas; para que por meio destas vocês se tornem coparticipantes da natureza divina, tendo escapado da corrupção que há no mundo pela cobiça.
4By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world.
5Sim, e por esta mesma razão, empenhem-se ao máximo e acrescentem à sua fé a excelência moral; à excelência moral, o conhecimento;
5And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue; and in virtue, knowledge;
6e ao conhecimento, o domínio próprio; e ao domínio próprio, a perseverança; e à perseverança, a piedade;
6And in knowledge, abstinence; and in abstinence, patience; and in patience, godliness;
7e à piedade, a fraternidade; e à fraternidade, o amor.
7And in godliness, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity.
8Porque, se estas coisas estiverem presentes e aumentarem em vocês, não os deixarão ociosos nem infrutíferos no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
8For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9Pois aquele a quem faltam estas coisas é cego, enxerga apenas de perto e se esqueceu da purificação dos seus antigos pecados.
9For he that hath not these things with him, is blind, and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10Portanto, irmãos, sejam ainda mais diligentes em confirmar a sua vocação e eleição. Pois, se fizerem estas coisas, vocês jamais tropeçarão.
10Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time.
11Pois assim lhes será concedida amplamente a entrada no Reino eterno de nosso Senhor e Salvador, Jesus Cristo.
11For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12Por isso, não deixarei de sempre lembrá-los destas coisas, embora vocês já as conheçam e estejam firmados na verdade presente.
12For which cause I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them, and are confirmed in the present truth.
13Acho justo, enquanto estiver nesta tenda, despertá-los com essas lembranças,
13But I think it meet as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.
14sabendo que em breve deixarei a minha tenda, assim como o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo me deixou claro.
14Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me.
15Sim, farei todo o esforço para que, mesmo após a minha partida, vocês sempre possam se lembrar destas coisas.
15And I will endeavour, that you frequently have after my decease, whereby you may keep a memory of these things.
16Porque não seguimos fábulas engenhosamente inventadas quando lhes demos a conhecer o poder e a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, mas nós fomos testemunhas oculares da sua majestade.
16For we have not by following artificial fables, made known to you the power, and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ; but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness.
17Pois ele recebeu honra e glória da parte de Deus Pai, quando a voz lhe foi dirigida pela Suprema Glória: “Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem me agrado.”
17For he received from God the Father, honour and glory: this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
18Nós ouvimos esta voz vinda do céu quando estávamos com ele no monte santo.
18And this voice we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19Temos também a palavra profética ainda mais segura; e vocês fazem bem em prestar atenção a ela, como a uma candeia que brilha em lugar escuro, até que o dia clareie e a estrela da alva nasça no coração de vocês,
19And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20sabendo primeiramente isto: que nenhuma profecia da Escritura é de interpretação particular.
20Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.
21Pois nenhuma profecia jamais veio pela vontade do homem, mas homens santos de Deus falaram, sendo movidos pelo Espírito Santo.
21For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
