1シンアルの王アムラフェル、エルラサルの王アリオク、エラムの王ケドルラオメル、ゴイムの王ティダルの時代に、
1In those days Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim
2これらの王たちは、ソドムの王ベラ、ゴモラの王ビルシャ、アデマの王シナブ、ツェボイムの王シェメベル、そしてベラ、すなわちツォアルの王と戦った。
2went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
3これらの王たちは皆、シディムの谷、すなわち塩の海に集まった。
3The latter five came as allies to the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea ).
4彼らは十二年の間ケドルラオメルに仕えていたが、十三年目に反逆した。
4For twelve years they had been subject to Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

5In the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh-kiriathaim,
6セイルの山地でホリ人を打ち、荒野の近くにあるエル・パランまで進んだ。
6and the Horites in the area of Mount Seir, as far as El-paran, which is near the desert.
7彼らは引き返してエン・ミシュパト、すなわちカデシュに来て、アマレク人の全土と、ハツァツォン・タマルに住むアモリ人を打った。
7Then they turned back to invade En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.
8そこでソドムの王、ゴモラの王、アデマの王、ツェボイムの王、ベラ、すなわちツォアルの王は出て行き、シディムの谷で陣を敷き、彼らに立ち向かった。
8Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and arrayed themselves for battle in the Valley of Siddim
9すなわち、エラムの王ケドルラオメル、ゴイムの王ティダル、シンアルの王アムラフェル、エルラサルの王アリオクという四人の王が、五人の王と戦った。
9against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five.
10さて、シディムの谷には瀝青の穴がたくさんあった。ソドムとゴモラの王たちは逃げてそこに落ち、残りの者たちは山へ逃げた。
10Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some men fell into the pits, but the survivors fled to the hill country.
11敵はソドムとゴモラのすべての財産と、すべての食料を奪って去った。
11The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food, and they went on their way.
12彼らはまた、ソドムに住んでいたアブラムの親族ロトとその財産を奪って去った。
12They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since Lot was living in Sodom.
13逃れて来た一人の人が、ヘブライ人アブラムにこのことを告げた。その時、アブラムはアモリ人マムレの樫の木々のそばに住んでいた。マムレはエシュコルとアネルの兄弟であり、彼らはアブラムの同盟者であった。
13Then an escapee came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the Oaks of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner, all of whom were bound by treaty to Abram.
14アブラムは自分の親族が捕らえられたことを聞くと、自分の家で生まれた三百十八人の訓練された者たちを率いて、ダンまで追跡した。
14And when Abram heard that his relative had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men born in his household, and they set out in pursuit as far as Dan.
15夜になると、彼はしもべたちを分けて敵を襲い、彼らを打ち、ダマスコの北にあるホバまで追撃した。
15During the night, Abram divided his forces and routed Chedorlaomer’s army, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.
16彼はすべての財産を取り戻し、親族のロトとその財産、また女たちや人々も取り戻した。
16He retrieved all the goods, as well as his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the rest of the people.
17アブラムがケドルラオメルと、彼に味方した王たちを打ち負かして帰って来たとき、ソドムの王はシャベの谷、すなわち王の谷まで彼を出迎えた。
17After Abram returned from defeating Chedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).
18サレムの王メルキゼデクはパンとぶどう酒を持って来た。彼はいと高き神の祭司であった。
18Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine—since he was priest of God Most High —
19彼はアブラムを祝福して言った。「アブラムは、天と地を造られたいと高き神に祝福されよ。
19and he blessed Abram and said: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,
20あなたの敵をあなたの手に渡されたいと高き神は、ほめたたえられよ。」 アブラムはすべての物の十分の一を彼に与えた。
20and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything.
21ソドムの王はアブラムに言った。「人々は私に返し、財産はあなたのものとして取ってください。」
21The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, but take the goods for yourself.”
22アブラムはソドムの王に言った。「私は、いと高き神、天と地の所有者である主に、手を上げて誓いました。
22But Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,
23あなたのものは、糸一本、サンダルのひも一本さえ取りません。『私がアブラムを富ませた』と、あなたに言わせないためです。
23that I will not accept even a thread, or a strap of a sandal, or anything that belongs to you, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’
24ただ、若者たちが食べたものと、私と一緒に行った人々、すなわちアネル、エシュコル、マムレの分け前は別です。彼らにはその分け前を取らせてください。」
24I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share for the men who went with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. They may take their portion.”
