1And the people marched from Haseroth, and pitched their tents in the desert of Pharan.
1OLELO mai la o Iehova ia Mose, i mai la,
2And there the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2E hoouna aku oe i na kanaka e makaikai ai i ka aina o Kanaana, kahi a'u e haawi aku nei i na mamo a Iseraela: i hookahi kanaka o kela ohana a o keia ohana a na kupuna o lakou ka oukou e hoouna aku ai, he mau luna kela mea keia mea iwaena o lakou.
3Send men to view the land of Chanaan, which I will give to the children of Israel, one of every tribe, of the rulers.
3A ma ke kauoha a Iehova i hoouna aku ai o Mose ia lakou, mai ka waonahele o Parana aku: a o ia mau kanaka a pau, he mau luna lakou no na mamo a Iseraela.
4Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending from the desert of Pharan, principal men, whose names are these:
4Eia na inoa o lakou: no ka ohana o Reubena, o Samua ke keiki a Zakura.

9Of the tribe of Ephraim, Osee the son of Nun.
9No ka ohana a Beniamina, o Paleti ke keiki a Rapu.

13No ka ohana a Asera, o Setiela ke keiki a Mikaela.
14Of the tribe of Aser, Sthur the son of Michael.
14No ka ohana a Napetali, o Nabi ke keiki a Vopesi.
15Of the tribe of Nephtali, Nahabi the son of Vapsi.
15No ka ohana a Gada, o Geuela ke keiki a Maki.
16Of the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.
16Oia na inoa o na kanaka a Mose i hoouna aku ai e makaikai i ka aina. A kapa aku la o Mose ia Hosea ke keiki a Nuna, o Iosua.
17These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to view the land: and he called Osee the son of Nun, Josue.
18And Moses sent them to view the land of Chanaan, and said to them: Go you up by the south side. And when you shall come to the mountains,
18E nana i ke ano o ka aina, a me na kanaka e noho ana ilaila, he ikaika paha lakou, he nawaliwali paha; he hapa paha lakou, he nui loa paha;
19View the land, of what sort it is: and the people that are the inhabitants thereof, whether they be strong or weak: few in number or many:
19Me ka aina hoi a lakou e noho la, he maikai paha, he ino paha; a me na kulanakauhale a lakou e noho la, ma na halelewa paha, ma na pakaua paha;
20The land itself, whether it be good or bad: what manner of cities, walled or without walls:
20A me ke ano o ka aina, he momona paha, he wi paha; he laau paha ilaila, aole paha: i nui hoi ka ikaika o oukou, a e lawe mai i kekahi hua o ka aina. O ka manawa ia o ka huawaina pala mua.
21The ground, fat or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us of the fruits of the land. Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes are fit to be eaten.
22And when they were gone up, they viewed the land from the desert of Sin, unto Rohob as you enter into Emath.
(Ua hookumuia o Heberona ehiku makahiki mamua o Zoana i Aigupita.)
23And they went up at the south side, and came to Hebron, where were Achiman and Sisai and Tholmai the sons of Enac. For Hebron was built seven years before Tanis the city of Egypt.
23A hele aku lakou i ke kahawai i Esekola, a old iho la i kekahi lala me ka huiwaina hookahi, a amo mai la maluna o ka mamaka mawaena o na kanaka elua, O na pomeraite kekahi a me na fiku.
24And going forward as far as the torrent of the cluster of grapes, they cut off a branch with its cluster of grapes, which two men carried upon a lever. They took also of the pomegranates and of the figs of that place:
24Ua kapaia ia wahi ke kahawai o I Esekola, no ka huiwaina a na mamo a Iseraela i oki ai malaila.
25Which was called Nehelescol, that is to say, the torrent of the cluster of grapes, because from thence the children of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes.
25A hala na la he kanaha o ka makaikai ana i ka ama, hoi mai la lakou.
26And they that went to spy out the land returned after forty days, having gone round all the country,
26Hele mai la lakou a hiki io Mose la a me Aarona, a me ke anaina kanaka a pau o na mamo a Iseraela, i ka waonahele o Parana, i Kadesa; a hoakaka mai la lakou ia laua, a i ke anaina kanaka a pau, a hoike mai la i ka hua o ka aina.
27And came to Moses and Aaron and to all the assembly of the children of Israel to the desert of Pharan, which is in Cades. And speaking to them and to all the multitude, they shewed them the fruits of the land:
27Olelo mai la lakou ia ia, i mai la, Ua hele aku makou i ka aina au i hoouna aku ai ia makou, a he oiaio no e kahe ana ka waiu a me ka meli ilaila; eia hoi ka hua o ia wahi.
28And they related and said: We came into the land to which thou sentest us, which in very deed floweth with milk and honey as may be known by these fruits:
28Aka, ua ikaika na kanaka e noho ana ma ia aina; a na paa i na papohaku na kulanakauhale, a nui loa: eia hoi kekahi, ua ike makou i na keiki a Anaka malaila.
29But it hath very strong inhabitants, and the cities are great and walled. We saw there the race of Enac.
29E noho ana ka Ameleka ma ka aina kukuluhema; o ka Heta, me ka Iebusa, a me ka Amora, ua noho lakou ma na mauna; a ua noho ko Kanaana ma ka moana a ma kapa o Ioredane.
30Amalec dwelleth in the south, the Hethite and the Jebusite and the Amorrhite in the mountains: but the Chanaanite abideth by the sea and near the streams of the Jordan.
30Hoomalielie iho o Kaleba i kanaka imua o Mose, i mai la, E hele koke aku kakou, a e komo i ka aina; no ka mea, e hiki pono no ia kakou ke lanakila maluna ona.
31In the mean time Caleb, to still the murmuring of the people that rose against Moses, said: Let us go up and possess the land, for we shall be able to conquer it.
31Aka, i mai la na kanaka i hele pu me ia, Aole e hiki ia kakou ke hele ku e i ua poe kanaka la; no ka mea, ua oi aku ko lakou ikaika i ko kakou.
32But the others, that had been with him, said: No, we are not able to go up to this people, because they are stronger than we.
32A lawe mai la lakou i ka olelo hoino i ka aina a lakou i makaikai aku ai i na mamo a Iseraela, i mai la, O ka aina kahi a makou i kaahele ai e makaikai aku, he aina ia e hoopau ana i na kanaka e noho ana malaila: a o na kanaka a pau a makou i ike ai malaila, he poe kanaka nunui.
33And they spoke ill of the land, which they had viewed, before the children of Israel, saying: The land which we have viewed, devoureth its inhabitants: the people, that we beheld, are of a tall stature.
33Malaila makou i ike ai i na kanaka nunui, i na keiki a Anaka, na ka poe kanaka nunui mai: ua like makou me na uhini i ko makou maka, a pela hoi makou imua o ko lakou maka.
34There we saw certain monsters of the sons of Enac, of the giant kind: in comparison of whom, we seemed like locusts.
