1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him.
1Yesu alipoyaona makundi ya watu, alipanda mlimani, akaketi. Wanafunzi wake wakamwendea,
2And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:
2naye akaanza kuwafundisha:
3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
3“Heri walio maskini rohoni, maana ufalme wa mbinguni ni wao.
4Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.
4Heri walio na huzuni, maana watafarijiwa.
5Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Heri walio wapole, maana watairithi nchi.
6Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.
6Heri wenye njaa na kiu ya kufanya atakavyo Mungu, maana watashibishwa.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
7Heri walio na huruma, maana watahurumiwa.
8Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
8Heri wenye moyo safi, maana watamwona Mungu.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God.
9Heri wenye kuleta amani, maana wataitwa watoto wa Mungu.
10Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
10Heri wanaoteswa kwa sababu ya kufanya atakavyo Mungu, maana ufalme wa mbinguni ni wao.
11Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:
11“Heri yenu ninyi watu wakiwatukana, wakiwadhulumu na kuwasingizia kila aina ya uovu kwa ajili yangu.
12Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.
12Furahini na kushangilia maana tuzo lenu ni kubwa mbinguni. Hivyo ndivyo walivyowadhulumu manabii waliokuwako kabla yenu.
13You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.
13“Ninyi ni chumvi ya dunia! Lakini chumvi ikipoteza ladha yake itakolezwa na nini? Haifai kitu tena, ila hutupwa nje na kukanyagwa na watu.
14You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid.
14“Ninyi ni mwanga wa ulimwengu! Mji uliojengwa juu ya mlima hauwezi kufichika.
15Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.
15Wala watu hawawashi taa na kuifunika kwa chungu, ila huiweka juu ya kinara ili iwaangazie wote waliomo nyumbani.
16So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
16Vivyo hivyo, ni lazima mwanga wenu uangaze mbele ya watu, ili wayaone matendo yenu mema, wamtukuze Baba yenu aliye mbinguni.”
17Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
17“Msidhani ya kuwa nimekuja kutangua Sheria ya Mose na mafundisho ya manabii. Sikuja kutangua bali kukamilisha.
18For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.
18Kweli nawaambieni, mpaka hapo mbingu na dunia zitakapopita, hakuna hata nukta moja au sehemu ndogo kabisa ya Sheria itakayoondolewa, mpaka yote yametimia.
19He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
19Basi, yeyote atakayevunja hata amri moja ndogo kuliko zote, na kuwafundisha wengine wafanye hivyo, huyo atakuwa mdogo kabisa katika Ufalme wa mbiguni. Lakini yule atakayezishika na kuwafundisha wengine, huyo atakuwa mkubwa katika Ufalme wa mbinguni.
20For I tell you, that unless your justice abound more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
20Ndiyo maana nawaambieni, wema wenu usipozidi ule wa Mafarisayo na walimu wa Sheria, hamtaingia kamwe katika Ufalme wa mbinguni.
21You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill. And whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.
21“Mmekwisha sikia ya kuwa watu wa kale waliambiwa: Usiue! Atakayeua lazima ahukumiwe.
22But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council. And whosoever shall say, Thou Fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
22Lakini mimi nawaambieni, yeyote anayemkasirikia ndugu yake, lazima ahukumiwe. Anayemdharau ndugu yake atapelekwa mahakamani. Anayemwita ndugu yake: Pumbavu atastahili kuingia katika moto wa Jehanamu.
23If therefore thou offer thy gift at the altar, and there thou remember that thy brother hath any thing against thee;
23Basi, ukipeleka sadaka yako mbele ya madhabahu na hapo ukakumbuka kwamba ndugu yako ana ugomvi nawe,
24Leave there thy offering before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to thy brother: and then coming thou shalt offer thy gift.
24iache sadaka yako mbele ya madhabahu, nenda kwanza ukapatane na ndugu yako, ndipo urudi ukatoe sadaka yako.
25Be at agreement with thy adversary betimes, whilst thou art in the way with him: lest perhaps the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
25“Patana na mshtaki wako upesi mkiwa bado njiani, kwenda mahakamani. La sivyo, mshtaki wako atakukabidhi kwa hakimu, naye hakimu atakukabidhi kwa askari, nawe utafungwa gerezani.
26Amen I say to thee, thou shalt not go out from thence till thou repay the last farthing.
26Kweli nakwambia, hutatoka humo mpaka umemaliza kulipa senti ya mwisho.
27You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
27“Mmesikia ya kuwa watu waliambiwa: Usizini!
28But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.
28Lakini mimi nawaambieni, atakayemtazama mwanamke kwa kumtamani, amekwisha zini naye moyoni mwake.
29And if thy right eye scandalize thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee. For it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than that thy whole body be cast into hell.
29Basi, kama jicho lako la kulia linakukosesha, ling'oe ukalitupe mbali. Afadhali zaidi kwako kupoteza kiungo kimoja cha mwili wako, kuliko mwili wako wote kutupwa katika moto wa Jehanamu.
30And if thy right hand scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than that thy whole body be cast into hell.
30Na kama mkono wako wa kulia unakukosesha, ukate ukautupe mbali. Afadhali zaidi kupoteza kiungo kimoja cha mwili, kuliko mwili wako wote uende katika moto wa Jehanamu.
31And it hath been said, whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.
31“Ilikwisha semwa pia: Anayemwacha mke wake, yampasa ampe hati ya talaka.
32But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.
32Lakini mimi nawaambieni, anayempa mkewe talaka, isipokuwa kwa sababu ya uzinzi, anamfanya azini; na mtu akimwoa mwanamke aliyepewa talaka, anazini.
33Again you have heard that it was said to them of old, Thou shalt not forswear thyself: but thou shalt perform thy oaths to the Lord.
33“Tena mmesikia kuwa watu wa kale waliambiwa: Usivunje kiapo chako, bali ni lazima utimize kiapo chako kwa Bwana.
34But I say to you not to swear at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God:
34Lakini mimi nawaambieni, msiape kamwe; wala kwa mbingu, maana ni kiti cha enzi cha Mungu;
35Nor by the earth, for it is his footstool: nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king:
35wala kwa dunia, maana ni kiti chake cha kuwekea miguu; wala kwa Yerusalemu, maana ni mji wa Mfalme mkuu.
36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
36Wala usiape kwa kichwa chako, maana huwezi kuufanya hata unywele mmoja kuwa mweupe au mweusi.
37But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.
37Ukisema, Ndiyo, basi iwe Ndiyo; ukisema Siyo, basi iwe kweli Siyo. Chochote kinachozidi hayo hutoka kwa yule Mwovu.
38You have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
38“Mmesikia kwamba ilisemwa: Jicho kwa jicho, jino kwa jino.
39But I say to you not to resist evil: but if one strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other:
39Lakini mimi nawaambieni, usimlipize kisasi mtu mbaya. Mtu akikupiga kofi shavu la kulia, mgeuzie pia shavu la pili.
40And if a man will contend with thee in judgment, and take away thy coat, let go thy cloak also unto him.
40Mtu akikupeleka mahakamani kutaka kukuchukulia shati lako, mwache achukue pia koti lako.
41And whosoever will force thee one mile, go with him other two,
41Mtu akikulazimisha kubeba mzigo wake kilomita moja, ubebe kilomita mbili.
42Give to him that asketh of thee and from him that would borrow of thee turn not away.
42Akuombaye mpe, na mtu akitaka kukukopa kitu usimnyime.
43You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy.
43“Mmesikia kwamba ilisemwa: Mpende jirani yako na kumchukia adui yako.
44But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you:
44Lakini mimi nawaambieni, wapendeni adui zenu na kuwaombea wale wanaowadhulumu ninyi
45That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.
45ili mpate kuwa watoto wa Baba yenu aliye mbinguni. Kwa maana yeye huwaangazia jua lake watu wabaya na wema, na kuwanyeshea mvua watu wanyofu na waovu.
46For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this?
46Je, mtapata tuzo gani kwa kuwapenda tu wale wanaowapenda ninyi? Hakuna! Kwa maana hata watoza ushuru hufanya hivyo!
47And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this?
47Kama mkiwasalimu ndugu zenu tu, je, mmefanya kitu kisicho cha kawaida? Hata watu wasiomjua Mungu nao hufanya vivyo hivyo.
48Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect.
48Basi, muwe wakamilifu kama Baba yenu wa mbinguni alivyo mkamilifu.
