1When Jesus had said these things, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he entered with his disciples.
1Yesu alipokwisha sema hayo, alikwenda ng'ambo ya kijito Kedroni, pamoja na wanafunzi wake. Mahali hapo palikuwa na bustani, naye Yesu akaingia humo pamoja na wanafunzi wake.
2And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place; because Jesus had often resorted thither together with his disciples.
2Yuda, aliyemsaliti Yesu, alipajua mahali hapo kwani mara nyingi Yesu alikutana na wanafunzi wake huko.
3Judas therefore having received a band of soldiers and servants from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
3Basi, Yuda alichukua kikosi cha askari na walinzi kutoka kwa makuhani wakuu na Mafarisayo, akaja nao bustanini wakiwa na taa, mienge na silaha.
4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said to them: Whom seek ye?
4Yesu, hali akijua yote yatakayompata, akatokea, akawauliza, “Mnamtafuta nani?”
5They answered him: Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith to them: I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.
5Nao wakamjibu, “Yesu wa Nazareti!” Yesu akawaambia, “Mimi ndiye.” Msaliti Yuda alikuwa amesimama hapo pamoja nao.
6As soon therefore as he had said to them: I am he; they went backward, and fell to the ground.
6Basi, Yesu alipowaambia: “Mimi ndiye”, wakarudi nyuma, wakaanguka chini.
7Again therefore he asked them: Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
7Yesu akawauliza tena, “Mnamtafuta nani?” Wakamjibu, “Yesu wa Nazareti!”
8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way.
8Yesu akawaambia, “Nimekwisha waambieni kwamba mimi ndiye. Basi, kama mnanitafuta mimi, waacheni hawa waende zao.”
9That the word might be fulfilled which he said: Of them whom thou hast given me, I have not lost any one.
9(Alisema hayo ili yapate kutimia yale aliyosema: “Wale ulionipa sikumpoteza hata mmoja.”)
10Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the name of the servant was Malchus.
10Simoni Petro alikuwa na upanga; basi, akauchomoa, akamkata sikio la kulia mtumishi wa Kuhani Mkuu. Mtumishi huyo aliitwa Malko.
11Jesus therefore said to Peter: Put up thy sword into the scabbard. The chalice which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
11Basi, Yesu akamwambia Petro, “Rudisha upanga wako alani. Je, nisinywe kikombe alichonipa Baba?”
12Then the band and the tribune, and the servants of the Jews, took Jesus, and bound him:
12Kile kikosi cha askari, mkuu wake na walinzi wa Wayahudi walimkamata Yesu, wakamfunga
13And they led him away to Annas first, for he was father in law to Caiphas, who was the high priest of that year.
13na kumpeleka kwanza kwa Anasi; Anasi alikuwa baba mkwe wa Kayafa ambaye alikuwa Kuhani Mkuu mwaka huo.
14Now Caiphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews: That it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
14Huyo Kayafa ndiye aliyekuwa amewashauri Wayahudi kwamba ni afadhali mtu mmoja afe kwa ajili ya taifa.
15And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the court of the high priest.
15Simoni Petro pamoja na mwanafunzi mwingine walimfuata Yesu. Huyo mwanafunzi mwingine alikuwa anajulikana kwa Kuhani Mkuu, hivyo aliingia pamoja na Yesu ndani ya ukumbi wa Kuhani Mkuu.
16But Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spoke to the portress, and brought in Peter.
16Lakini Petro alikuwa amesimama nje, karibu na mlango. Basi, huyo mwanafunzi mwingine aliyekuwa anajulikana kwa Kuhani Mkuu alitoka nje akasema na mjakazi, mngoja mlango, akamwingiza Petro ndani.
17The maid therefore that was portress, saith to Peter: Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith: I am not.
17Huyo msichana mngoja mlango akamwuliza Petro, “Je, nawe pia ni mmoja wa wanafunzi wa mtu huyu?” Petro akamwambia, “Si mimi!”
18Now the servants and ministers stood at a fire of coals, because it was cold, and warmed themselves. And with them was Peter also, standing, and warming himself.
18Watumishi na walinzi walikuwa wamewasha moto kwa sababu kulikuwa na baridi, wakawa wanaota moto. Naye Petro alikuwa amesimama pamoja nao akiota moto.
19The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
19Basi, Kuhani akamwuliza Yesu juu ya wanafunzi wake na mafundisho yake.
20Jesus answered him: I have spoken openly to the world: I have always taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort; and in secret I have spoken nothing.
20Yesu akamjibu, “Nimesema na kila mtu daima hadharani. Kila mara nimefundisha katika masunagogi na Hekaluni, mahali wakutanikiapo Wayahudi wote; na wala sijasema chochote kwa siri.
21Why asketh thou me? ask them who have heard what I have spoken unto them: behold they know what things I have said.
21Kwa nini waniuliza mimi? Waulize wale waliosikia nini niliwaambia. Wao wanajua nilivyosema.”
22And when he had said these things, one of the servants standing by, gave Jesus a blow, saying: Answerest thou the high priest so?
22Alipokwisha sema hayo mlinzi mmoja aliyekuwa amesimama hapo akampiga kofi akisema, “Je, ndivyo unavyomjibu Kuhani Mkuu?”
23Jesus answered him: If I have spoken evil, give testimony of the evil; but if well, why strikest thou me?
23Yesu akamjibu, “Kama nimesema vibaya, onyesha huo ubaya; lakini ikiwa nimesema vema, mbona wanipiga?”
24And Annas sent him bound to Caiphas the high priest.
24Basi, Anasi akampeleka Yesu akiwa amefungwa, kwa Kuhani Mkuu Kayafa.
25And Simon Peter was standing, and warming himself. They said therefore to him: Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said: I am not.
25Petro alikuwa hapo akiota moto. Basi, wakamwuliza, “Je, nawe pia si mmoja wa wanafunzi wake?” Yeye akakana na kusema, “Si mimi!”
26One of the servants of the high priest (a kinsman to him whose ear Peter cut off) saith to him: Did I not see thee in the garden with him?
26Mmoja wa watumishi wa Kuhani Mkuu, jamaa wa yule aliyekatwa sikio na Petro, akamwuliza, “Je, mimi sikukuona wewe bustanini pamoja naye?”
27Again therefore Peter denied; and immediately the cock crew.
27Petro akakana tena; mara jogoo akawika.
28Then they led Jesus from Caiphas to the governor’s hall. And it was morning; and they went not into the hall, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the pasch.
28Basi, walimchukua Yesu kutoka kwa Kayafa, wakampeleka ikulu. Ilikuwa alfajiri, nao ili waweze kula Pasaka, hawakuingia ndani ya ikulu wasije wakatiwa najisi.
29Pilate therefore went out to them, and said: What accusation bring you against this man?
29Kwa hiyo, Pilato aliwaendea nje, akasema, “Mna mashtaka gani juu ya mtu huyu?”
30They answered, and said to him: If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.
30Wakamjibu, “Kama huyu hangalikuwa mwovu hatungalimleta kwako.”
31Pilate therefore said to them: Take him you, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him: It is not lawful for us to put any man to death;
31Pilato akawaambia, “Haya, mchukueni ninyi wenyewe, mkamhukumu kufuatana na Sheria yenu.” Wayahudi wakamjibu, “Sisi hatuna mamlaka ya kumwua mtu yeyote.”
32That the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he said, signifying what death he should die.
32(Ilifanyika hivyo yapate kutimia maneno aliyosema Yesu kuonyesha atakufa kifo gani.)
33Pilate therefore went into the hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him: Art thou the king of the Jews?
33Pilato akaingia tena ndani ya ikulu, akamwita Yesu na kumwuliza: “Ati wewe ndiye Mfalme wa Wayahudi?”
34Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or have others told it thee of me?
34Yesu akamjibu, “Je, hayo ni maneno yako au wengine wamekwambia habari zangu?”
35Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?
35Pilato akamjibu, “Je, ni Myahudi mimi? Taifa lako na makuhani wamekuleta kwangu. Umefanya nini?”
36Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence.
36Yesu akamjibu, “Ufalme wangu si wa ulimwengu huu. Kama ufalme wangu ungekuwa wa ulimwengu huu watumishi wangu wangenipigania nisitiwe mikononi mwa Wayahudi. Lakini sasa ufalme wangu si wa hapa.”
37Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.
37Hapo Pilato akamwambia, “Basi, wewe ni Mfalme?” Yesu akajibu, “Wewe umesema kwamba mimi ni Mfalme. Mimi nimezaliwa kwa ajili hiyo; na kwa ajili hiyo nimekuja ulimwenguni kuwaambia watu juu ya ukweli. Kila mtu wa ukweli hunisikiliza.”
38Pilate saith to him: What is truth? And when he said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them: I find no cause in him.
38Pilato akamwambia, “Ukweli ni kitu gani?” Pilato alipokwisha sema hayo, aliwaendea tena Wayahudi nje, akawaambia, “Mimi sioni hatia yoyote kwake.
39But you have a custom that I should release one unto you at the pasch: will you, therefore, that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
39Lakini, mnayo desturi kwamba mimi niwafungulie mfungwa mmoja wakati wa Pasaka. Basi, mwataka niwafungulieni Mfalme wa Wayahudi?”
40Then cried they all again, saying: Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
40Hapo wakapiga kelele: “La! Si huyu ila Baraba!” Naye Baraba alikuwa mnyang'anyi.
