1But I determined this with myself, not to come to you again in sorrow.
1Ich dachte aber solches bei mir, daß ich nicht abermals in Traurigkeit zu euch käme.
2For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then that can make me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me?
2Denn, so ich euch traurig mache, wer ist, der mich fröhlich mache, wenn nicht, der da von mir betrübt wird?
3And I wrote this same to you; that I may not, when I come, have sorrow upon sorrow, from them of whom I ought to rejoice: having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
3Und dasselbe habe ich euch geschrieben, daß ich nicht, wenn ich käme, über die traurig sein müßte, über welche ich mich billig soll freuen; sintemal ich mich des zu euch allen versehe, daß meine Freude euer aller Freude sei.
4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not that you should be made sorrowful: but that you might know the charity I have more abundantly towards you.
4Denn ich schrieb euch in großer Trübsal und Angst des Herzens mit viel Tränen; nicht, daß ihr solltet betrübt werden, sondern auf daß ihr die Liebe erkennet, welche ich habe sonderlich zu euch.
5And if any one have caused grief, he hath not grieved me; but in part, that I may not burden you all.
5So aber jemand eine Betrübnis hat angerichtet, der hat nicht mich betrübt, sondern zum Teil, auf daß ich nicht zu viel sage, euch alle.
6To him who is such a one, this rebuke is sufficient, which is given by many:
6Es ist aber genug, daß derselbe von vielen also gestraft ist,
7So that on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
7daß ihr nun hinfort ihm desto mehr vergebet und ihn tröstet, auf daß er nicht in allzu große Traurigkeit versinke.
8Wherefore, I beseech you, that you would confirm your charity towards him.
8Darum ermahne ich euch, daß ihr die Liebe an ihm beweiset.
9For to this end also did I write, that I may know the experiment of you, whether you be obedient in all things.
9Denn darum habe ich euch auch geschrieben, daß ich erkennte, ob ihr rechtschaffen seid, gehorsam zu sein in allen Stücken.
10And to whom you have pardoned any thing, I also. For, what I have pardoned, if I have pardoned any thing, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ.
10Welchem aber ihr etwas vergebet, dem vergebe ich auch. Denn auch ich, so ich etwas vergebe jemand, das vergebe ich um euretwillen an Christi Statt,
11That we be not overreached by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his devices.
11auf daß wir nicht übervorteilt werden vom Satan; denn uns ist nicht unbewußt, was er im Sinn hat.
12And when I was come to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened unto me in the Lord,
12Da ich aber gen Troas kam, zu predigen das Evangelium Christi, und mir eine Tür aufgetan war in dem HERRN,
13I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother; but bidding them farewell, I went into Macedonia.
13hatte ich keine Ruhe in meinem Geist, da ich Titus, meinen Bruder, nicht fand; sondern ich machte meinen Abschied mit ihnen und fuhr aus nach Mazedonien.
14Now thanks be to God, who always maketh us to triumph in Christ Jesus, and manifesteth the odour of his knowledge by us in every place.
14Aber Gott sei gedankt, der uns allezeit Sieg gibt in Christo und offenbart den Geruch seiner Erkenntnis durch uns an allen Orten!
15For we are the good odour of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.
15Denn wir sind Gott ein guter Geruch Christi unter denen, die selig werden, und unter denen, die verloren werden:
16To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient?
16diesen ein Geruch des Todes zum Tode, jenen aber ein Geruch des Lebens zum Leben. Und wer ist hierzu tüchtig?
17For we are not as many, adulterating the word of God; but with sincerity, but as from God, before God, in Christ we speak.
17Denn wir sind nicht, wie die vielen, die das Wort Gottes verfälschen; sondern als aus Lauterkeit und als aus Gott reden wir vor Gott in Christo.
