1以色列 人在当灭的物上犯了罪；因为 犹大 支派中， 谢拉 的曾孙， 撒底 的孙子， 迦米 的儿子 亚干 取了当灭的物；耶和华的怒气就向 以色列 人发作。
1But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against the children of Israel.
2当下， 约书亚 从 耶利哥 打发人往 伯特利 东边、靠近 伯·亚文 的 艾 城去，吩咐他们说：「你们上去窥探那地。」他们就上去窥探 艾 城。
2Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.
3他们回到 约书亚 那里，对他说：「众民不必都上去，只要二三千人上去就能攻取 艾 城；不必劳累众民都去，因为那里的人少。」
3They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”
4于是民中约有三千人上那里去，竟在 艾 城人面前逃跑了。
4So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.
5艾 城的人击杀了他们三十六人，从城门前追赶他们，直到 示巴琳 ，在下坡杀败他们；众民的心就消化如水。
5The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.
6约书亚 便撕裂衣服；他和 以色列 的长老把灰撒在头上，在耶和华的 约 柜前俯伏在地，直到晚上。
6Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the LORD’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.
7约书亚 说：「哀哉！主耶和华啊，你为什么竟领这百姓过 约旦河 ，将我们交在 亚摩利 人的手中，使我们灭亡呢？我们不如住在 约旦河 那边倒好。
7Joshua said, “Alas, Lord GOD, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!
8主啊， 以色列 人既在仇敌面前转背 逃跑 ，我还有什么可说的呢？
8Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9迦南 人和这地一切的居民听见了就必围困我们，将我们的名从地上除灭。那时你为你的大名要怎样行呢？」
9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”
10耶和华吩咐 约书亚 说：「起来！你为何这样俯伏在地呢？
10The LORD said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?
11以色列 人犯了罪，违背了我所吩咐他们的约，取了当灭的物；又偷窃，又行诡诈，又把那当灭的放在他们的家具里。
11Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.
12因此， 以色列 人在仇敌面前站立不住。他们在仇敌面前转背 逃跑 ，是因成了被咒诅的；你们若不把当灭的物从你们中间除掉，我就不再与你们同在了。
12Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
13你起来，叫百姓自洁，对他们说：『你们要自洁，预备明天，因为耶和华— 以色列 的 神这样说： 以色列 啊，你们中间有当灭的物，你们若不除掉，在仇敌面前必站立不住！』
13Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for the LORD, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”
14到了早晨，你们要按着支派近前来；耶和华所取的支派，要按着宗族近前来；耶和华所取的宗族，要按着家室近前来；耶和华所取的家室，要按着人丁，一个一个地近前来。
14In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which the LORD selects shall come near by families. The family which the LORD selects shall come near by households. The household which the LORD selects shall come near man by man.
15被取的人有当灭的物在他那里，他和他所有的必被火焚烧；因他违背了耶和华的约，又因他在 以色列 中行了愚妄的事。」
15It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the LORD’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”
16于是， 约书亚 清早起来，使 以色列 人按着支派近前来，取出来的是 犹大 支派；
16So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.
17使 犹大 支派近前来，就取了 谢拉 的宗族；使 谢拉 的宗族，按着 家室 人丁，一个一个地近前来，取出来的是 撒底 ；
17He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.
18使 撒底 的家室，按着人丁，一个一个地近前来，就取出 犹大 支派的人 谢拉 的曾孙， 撒底 的孙子， 迦米 的儿子 亚干 。
18He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.
19约书亚 对 亚干 说：「我儿，我劝你将荣耀归给耶和华— 以色列 的 神，在他面前认罪，将你所做的事告诉我，不要向我隐瞒。」
19Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”
20亚干 回答 约书亚 说：「我实在得罪了耶和华— 以色列 的 神。我所做的事如此如此：
20Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.
21我在所夺的财物中看见一件美好的 示拿 衣服，二百舍客勒银子，一条金子重五十舍客勒，我就贪爱这些物件，便拿去了。现今藏在我帐棚内的地里，银子在衣服底下。」
21When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”
22约书亚 就打发人跑到 亚干 的帐棚里。那件衣服果然藏在他帐棚内，银子在底下。
22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.
23他们就从帐棚里取出来，拿到 约书亚 和 以色列 众人那里，放在耶和华面前。
23They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before the LORD.
24约书亚 和 以色列 众人把 谢拉 的曾孙 亚干 和那银子、那件衣服、那条金子，并 亚干 的儿女、牛、驴、羊、帐棚，以及他所有的，都带到 亚割谷 去。
24Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.
25约书亚 说：「你为什么连累我们呢？今日耶和华必叫你受连累。」于是 以色列 众人用石头打死他，将石头扔在其上，又用火焚烧他所有的。
25Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.
26众人在 亚干 身上堆成一大堆石头，直存到今日。于是耶和华转意，不发他的烈怒。因此那地方名叫 亚割谷 ，直到今日。
26They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. The LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
