1Starších, kteříž mezi vámi jsou, prosím já spolustarší, a svědek Kristových utrpení, a budoucí, kteráž zjevena bude, slávy účastník:
1As a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a partaker of the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the elders among you:
2Paste stádo Boží, kteréž při vás jest, opatrujíce je, ne bezděky, ale dobrovolně, ne pro mrzký zisk, ale ochotně,
2Be shepherds of God’s flock that is among you, watching over them not out of compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of greed, but out of eagerness;
3Ani jako panujíce nad dědictvím Páně, ale jako příkladem jsouce stádu.
3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
4A když se ukáže kníže pastýřů, vezmete tu neuvadlou korunu slávy.
4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
5Podobně i mládenci, buďte poddáni starším. A všickni poddanost jedni druhým ukazujte, pokorou vnitř se ozdobte. Bůh zajisté pyšným se protiví, ale pokorným dává milost.
5Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
6Pokořtež se tedy pod mocnou ruku Boží, aby vás povýšil časem svým,
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you.
7Všelikou péči vaši uvrhouce na něj. Nebo onť má péči o vás.
7Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
8Střízliví buďte, bděte; nebo protivník váš ďábel jako lev řvoucí obchází, hledaje, koho by sežral.
8Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
9Jemužto odpírejte, silní jsouce u víře, vědouce, že tatáž utrpení bratrstvo vaše, kteréž na světě jest, obkličují.
9Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
10Bůh pak všeliké milosti, kterýž povolal nás k věčné slávě své v Kristu Ježíši, když maličko potrpíte, on dokonalé vás učiň, utvrď, zmocni i upevni.
10And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore you, secure you, strengthen you, and establish you.
11Jemuž sláva a císařství na věky věků. Amen.
11To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen.
12Po Silvánovi, vám věrném bratru, tak za to mám, že jsem psal vám krátce, napomínaje a osvědčuje, že tato jest pravá milost Boží, v kteréž stojíte.
12Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
13Pozdravuje vás ta církev, kteráž jest v Babyloně, účastnice vyvolení vašeho, a Marek syn můj.
13The church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, as does my son Mark.
14Pozdravtež jedni druhých v políbení laskavém. Pokoj vám všechněm, kteříž jste v Kristu Ježíši. Amen.
14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
