Proverbs 19

Berean Standard Bible
Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
1Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.
1‌ʻOku lelei lahi hake ʻae tangata ʻoku masiva kae ʻalu ʻi heʻene angatonu, ʻiate ia ʻoku kovi hono loungutu, pea ʻoku vale.
2Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
2Ko eni foki, ʻoku ʻikai lelei ki he laumālie ke taʻepoto: pea ko ia ʻoku ʻoho veʻe vave ʻoku angahala ia.
3A man’s own folly subverts his way, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
3Ko e meʻa ʻi he vale ʻoe tangata ʻoku pikopiko ai hono hala: pea ʻoku lāunga ai hono loto kia Sihova.
4Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
4‌ʻOku fakatokolahi ʻae kaumeʻa ʻe he koloa: ka ʻoku vāmamaʻo ʻae masiva mo hono kaungāʻapi.
5A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
5‌ʻE ʻikai tuku ke taʻetautea ʻae fakamoʻoni loi, pea ʻe ʻikai hao ia ʻaia ʻoku faʻa lea ʻaki ʻae loi.
6Many seek the favor of the prince, and everyone is a friend of the gift giver.
6‌ʻE kole tōtōaki ʻe he tokolahi ke ʻofa mai ʻae houʻeiki: pea ʻoku kaumeʻa ʻae kakai kotoa pē mo ia ʻoku faʻa foaki.
7All the brothers of a poor man hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
7‌ʻOku fehiʻa ki he masiva ʻa hono tokoua kotoa pē: kae huanoa ʻae fakamōmoa ʻa hono kāinga pe kiate ia! ʻOku ne tangi toupili kiate kinautolu, ka ʻoku nau taʻetokangaʻi.
8He who acquires wisdom loves himself; one who safeguards understanding will find success.
8Ko ia ʻoku maʻu ʻae poto ʻoku ʻofa ia ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: pea ko ia ʻoku tauhi ʻae faʻa ʻilo ʻe maʻu ʻe ia ʻae lelei.
9A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will perish.
9‌ʻE ʻikai tuku ke taʻetautea ʻae fakamoʻoni loi, pea ʻe fakaʻauha ia ʻaia ʻoku faʻa lea ʻaki ʻae loi.
10Luxury is unseemly for a fool— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!
10‌ʻOku ʻikai ngali mo e vale ʻae fiefia; kae huanoa hono taʻengali ʻoe pule ʻae tamaioʻeiki ki he houʻeiki.
11A man’s insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.
11‌ʻOku fakatuotuai ʻae ʻita ʻe he fakapotopoto ʻae tangata: pea ko e meʻa ʻoku ne ongoongolelei ai ko ʻene fakamolemole ha angahala.
12A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
12‌ʻOku tatau ʻae tuputāmaki ʻoe tuʻi mo e ngungulu ʻae laione; ka ko ʻene loto lelei ʻoku hangē ko e hahau ki he mohuku.
13A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.
13Ko e foha vale ko e fakamamahiʻi ia ʻo ʻene tamai: pea ko e faʻa kē ʻae fefine ʻoku mali ʻoku tatau mo e hafu maʻuaipē ʻae vai.
14Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
14Ko e fale mo e koloa ko e tofiʻa ia ʻokinautolu kuo hoko ko e tamai: pea ko e fefine alafia ʻoku anga fakapotopoto ʻoku meia Sihova ia.
15Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
15‌ʻOku hoko ʻae mohe maʻu ʻi he fakapikopiko; pea ʻe fakamamahi ʻaki ʻae fiekaia ʻae laumālie ʻoku fakapikopiko.
16He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die.
16Ko ia ʻoku tauhi ʻae fekau ʻoku ne tauhi ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoku taʻetokanga ki hono ngaahi hala ʻe mate ia.
17Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
17Ko ia ʻoku manavaʻofa ki he masiva ʻoku foaki ʻe ia kia Sihova: pea ko ia kuo ne foaki te ne toe totongi kiate ia.
18Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.
18Tautea ho foha ʻi he lolotonga ʻoku ai ha ʻamanaki lelei kiate ia, pea ʻoua naʻa ke mamae koeʻuhi ko ʻene tangi.
19A man of great anger must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do so again.
19‌ʻE hoko ʻae tautea ki he tangata ʻoku faʻa ʻita: he kapau te ke langomakiʻi ia, te ke toe fiu pe ʻi hono fai.
20Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
20Fanongo ki he tala fakapoto, pea ke maʻu ʻae akonaki, koeʻuhi ke ke poto ai ʻi ho ngataʻanga.
21Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.
21‌ʻOku lahi ʻae filioʻi ʻi he loto ʻoe tangata; ka e tuʻumaʻu pē ʻae tuʻutuʻuni ʻa Sihova.
22The desire of a man is loving devotion; better to be poor than a liar.
22‌ʻOku holi ʻae tangata ke ne angalelei: pea ʻoku lelei hake ʻae tangata masiva ʻi he tangata ʻoku loi.
23The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm.
23‌ʻOku hoko ki he moʻui ʻae manavahē kia Sihova: pea ʻe nofo fiemālie ʻaia ʻoku ne maʻu ia; ʻe ʻikai ʻaʻahi kiate ia ha kovi.
24The slacker buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth.
24‌ʻOku fakafufū ʻe he tangata fakapikopiko ʻa hono nima ki hono fatafata, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne toe faʻa ʻomi ia ki hono ngutu.
25Strike a mocker, and the simple will beware; rebuke the discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.
25Teʻia ʻaia ʻoku manuki, pea ʻe tokanga ai ʻae taʻepoto: pea valokiʻi ia ʻoku faʻa fakakaukau, pea te ne ʻilo ai ʻae poto.
26He who assaults his father or evicts his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
26Ko ia ʻoku ne fakamasivaʻi ʻa ʻene tamai, pea kapusi atu ʻa ʻene faʻē, ko e foha ia ʻoku tupu ai ʻae mā, pea ʻoku haʻu mo ia ʻae manuki.
27If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
27‌ʻE hoku foha, ke tukuā, pea ʻoua naʻa ke fanongo ki he akonaki ʻaia, ʻoku tupu ai ʻae hē mei he ngaahi lea ʻae poto.
28A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.
28‌ʻOku manukiʻi ʻae fakamaau ʻe he fakamoʻoni angakovi: pea ʻoku kai ʻae kovi ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angahala.
29Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
29‌ʻOku talifaki ʻae ngaahi malaʻia ki he kau manuki, mo e ngaahi tā ki he tuʻa ʻoe kakai vale.
