Proverbs 15

Berean Standard Bible
Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
1A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
1‌ʻOku tekeʻi atu ʻae houhau ʻe he tali fakavaivai: ka ʻoku fakatupu ʻae ʻita ʻi he lea fakamamahi.
2The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool spouts folly.
2‌ʻOku ngāue totonu ʻaki ʻae ʻilo ʻe he ʻelelo ʻoe poto: ka ʻoku malingi ʻae vale mei he ngutu ʻoe vale.
3The eyes of the LORD are in every place, observing the evil and the good.
3‌ʻOku ʻi he potu kotoa pē ʻae fofonga ʻo Sihova, ʻo ne ʻafioʻi ʻae kovi mo e lelei.
4A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
4Ko e ʻelelo fakamoʻui ko e ʻakau ia ʻoe moʻui: pea ka talangataʻa ia ko e maumau ia ʻoe laumālie.
5A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction is prudent.
5‌ʻOku fehiʻa ʻae vale ki he akonaki ʻa ʻene tamai: ka ʻoku fakapotopoto ia ʻaia ʻoku tokanga ki he valoki.
6The house of the righteous has great treasure, but the income of the wicked is trouble.
6‌ʻOku ai ʻae koloa lahi ʻi he fale ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku ai ʻae mamahi ʻi he koloa ʻae angahala.
7The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but not so the hearts of fools.
7‌ʻOku tufa atu ʻae poto ʻe he loungutu ʻoe poto: ka ʻoku ʻikai ke fai pehē ʻe he loto ʻoe vale.
8The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
8Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae feilaulau ʻae angahala: ka ko e lotu ʻae angatonu ʻoku ne fiemālie ai.
9The LORD detests the way of the wicked, but He loves those who pursue righteousness.
9Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae hala ʻoe angakovi: ka ʻoku ne ʻofa kiate ia ʻoku muimui ki he māʻoniʻoni.
10Discipline is harsh for him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die.
10Ko e meʻa fakamamahi ʻae tautea kiate ia kuo liʻaki ʻae hala: pea ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he valoki ʻe mate ia.
11Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD— how much more the hearts of men!
11‌ʻOku ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻa hētesi pea mo e fakaʻauha: kae muʻa hake ʻae loto ʻoe fānau ʻae tangata!
12A mocker does not love to be reproved, nor will he consult the wise.
12‌ʻOku ʻikai ʻofa ʻae tangata manuki kiate ia ʻoku valokiʻi ia: pea ʻoku ʻikai fie ʻalu atu ia ki he poto.
13A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit.
13‌ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae mata ʻe he loto ʻoku fiemālie: ka ʻoku maumauʻi ʻae laumālie ʻe he mamahi ʻoe loto.
14A discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
14‌ʻOku kumi ki he poto ʻe he loto ʻoʻona ʻoku faʻa ʻilo: ka ʻoku kai ʻae vale ʻe he ngutu ʻoe kakai vale.
15All the days of the oppressed are bad, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
15‌ʻOku kovi ʻae ʻaho kotoa pē ʻonautolu ʻoku mamahi: ka ʻoku fai kātoanga maʻuaipē ia ʻaia ʻoku loto fiemālie.
16Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure with turmoil.
16‌ʻOku lelei lahi hake ʻae meʻa siʻi mo e manavahē kia Sihova, ʻi he koloa lahi ʻoku maʻu mo e kovi.
17Better a dish of vegetables where there is love than a fattened ox with hatred.
17‌ʻOku lelei hake ʻae meʻakai ʻaki ʻae louʻakau pea ai mo e ʻofa, ʻi he kai ha pulu kuo fafanga, kae maʻu mo e fehiʻa.
18A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger calms dispute.
18‌ʻOku fakatupu ʻe he tangata faʻa ʻita ʻae feʻiteʻitani: ka ʻoku lolomi ʻae feʻiteʻitani ʻe ia ʻoku fakatotoka ki he ʻita.
19The way of the slacker is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway.
19‌ʻOku tatau ʻae hala ʻoe tangata fakapikopiko mo e ʻā ʻakau talatala: ka ʻoku hangamālie ʻae hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
20A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.
20‌ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae tamai ʻe he foha ʻoku poto: ka ʻoku fehiʻa ʻae tangata vale ki heʻene faʻē.
21Folly is joy to one who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding walks a straight path.
21Ko e vale ko e fakafiefia ia kiate ia ʻoku taʻemaʻu ʻae poto: ka ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he angatonu ʻae tangata ʻoku faʻa ʻilo.
22Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
22‌ʻOku ʻikai hoko ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo tuʻutuʻuni, ko e meʻa ʻi he masiva fakakaukau: ka ʻi he tokolahi hono kau fakakaukauʻi ʻoku toki maʻu ai ia.
23A man takes joy in a fitting reply— and how good is a timely word!
23‌ʻOku maʻu ʻe he tangata ʻae fiefia ʻi he lea ʻa hono ngutu: pea ko e lea ʻoku fai ʻi hono kuonga totonu, hono ʻikai lelei fau ia!
24The path of life leads upward for the wise, that he may avoid going down to Sheol.
24‌ʻOku māʻolunga ʻae hala ʻoe moʻui kiate kinautolu ʻoku poto, koeʻuhi ke nau hao mei heli ʻoku ʻi lalo.
25The LORD tears down the house of the proud, but He protects the boundaries of the widow.
25‌ʻE fakaʻauha ʻe Sihova ʻae fale ʻoe fielahi: ka ʻe fokotuʻumaʻu ʻe ia ʻae kauhala ʻoe fefine kuo mate hono husepāniti.
26The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the words of the pure are pleasant to Him.
26Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae ngaahi mahalo ʻae angakovi: ka ko e ngaahi lea ʻae māʻoniʻoni ko e ngaahi lea ia ʻoku lelei.
27He who is greedy for unjust gain brings trouble on his household, but he who hates bribes will live.
27Ko ia ʻoku manumanu ki he koloa, ʻoku fakafiuʻi ʻe ia hono fale ʻoʻona; ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he ngaahi meʻa foaki ʻe moʻui ia.
28The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked blurts out evil.
28‌ʻOku fakakaukau ʻe he loto ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻae lea te ne tali ʻaki: ka ʻoku malingi mei he ngutu ʻoe angahala ʻae ngaahi meʻa kovi.
29The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.
29‌ʻOku mamaʻo ʻaupito ʻa Sihova mei he angahala: ka ʻoku ne ongoʻi ʻae lotu ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
30The light of the eyes cheers the heart, and good news nourishes the bones.
30‌ʻOku fiefia ʻae loto ʻi he maama ʻoe mata: pea ʻoku tupu ʻi he ongoongolelei ʻae huhuʻa ʻoe hui.
31He who listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
31Ko e telinga ʻoku fakafanongo ki he valoki fakamoʻui, ʻe nofomaʻu ia ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻoe poto.
32He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.
32Ko ia ʻoku manuki ki he akonaki, ʻoku ne fehiʻa ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoku fanongo ki he valoki, ʻoku maʻu ʻe ia ʻae loto poto.
33The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
33Ko e manavahē kia Sihova, ko e akonaki ia ʻoe poto; pea ʻoku muʻomuʻa ʻae angavaivai ʻi he hakeakiʻi.
