1You therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
1Você, portanto, meu filho, fortaleça-se na graça que há em Cristo Jesus.
2And the things that you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be qualified to teach others as well.
2As coisas que você ouviu de mim na presença de muitas testemunhas, confie-as a homens fiéis que sejam capazes de ensinar também a outros.
3Join me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
3Você, portanto, deve suportar as aflições como um bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.
4A soldier refrains from entangling himself in civilian affairs, in order to please the one who enlisted him.
4Nenhum soldado em serviço se envolve com os negócios desta vida, para que possa agradar àquele que o alistou como soldado.
5Likewise, a competitor does not receive the crown unless he competes according to the rules.
5Da mesma forma, se alguém compete no atletismo, não é coroado a menos que compita de acordo com as regras.
6The hardworking farmer should be the first to partake of the crops.

7Consider what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all things.

8Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David, as proclaimed by my gospel,
8Lembre-se de Jesus Cristo, ressuscitado dentre os mortos, da descendência de Davi, de acordo com o meu Evangelho,
9for which I suffer to the extent of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained!
9pelo qual sofro aflições até o ponto de ser acorrentado como um criminoso. Mas a palavra de Deus não está acorrentada.
10For this reason I endure all things for the sake of the elect, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
10Portanto, suporto todas as coisas por amor aos escolhidos, para que eles também possam obter a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus com glória eterna.
11This is a trustworthy saying: If we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
11Esta palavra é digna de confiança: “Pois se morremos com ele, também viveremos com ele.
12if we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He will also deny us;
12Se perseverarmos, também reinaremos com ele. Se o negarmos, ele também nos negará.
13if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
13Se formos infiéis, ele permanece fiel; pois ele não pode negar a si mesmo.”
14Remind the believers of these things, charging them before God to avoid quarreling over words, which succeeds only in leading the listeners to ruin.
14Lembre-os destas coisas, advertindo-os diante do Senhor para que não entrem em discussões inúteis sobre palavras, que só levam à ruína dos que ouvem.
15Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman who accurately handles the word of truth.
15Esforce-se para apresentar-se a Deus aprovado, como um obreiro que não tem do que se envergonhar, que maneja bem a Palavra da Verdade.
16But avoid irreverent, empty chatter, which will only lead to more ungodliness,
16Mas evite as conversas vazias, pois elas levarão a uma impiedade ainda maior,
17and the talk of such men will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
17e essas palavras corroerão como gangrena. Entre eles estão Himeneu e Fileto:
18who have deviated from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already occurred, and they undermine the faith of some.
18homens que se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição já aconteceu, e estão destruindo a fé de alguns.
19Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.”
19No entanto, o firme fundamento de Deus permanece, tendo este selo: “O Senhor conhece os que são seus,” e, “Que todo aquele que invoca o nome do Senhor afaste-se da injustiça.”
20A large house contains not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay. Some indeed are for honorable use, but others are for common use.
20Ora, em uma grande casa não há apenas vasos de ouro e de prata, mas também de madeira e de barro. Alguns são para usos honrosos e outros para usos desonrosos.
21So if anyone cleanses himself of what is unfit, he will be a vessel for honor: sanctified, useful to the Master, and prepared for every good work.
21Portanto, se alguém se purificar destas coisas, será um vaso para uso honroso, santificado e útil ao Senhor, preparado para toda boa obra.
22Flee from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
22Fuja das paixões da juventude; mas busque a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz, com aqueles que invocam o Senhor de coração puro.
23But reject foolish and ignorant speculation, for you know that it breeds quarreling.
23Mas rejeite discussões tolas e ignorantes, sabendo que elas geram contendas.
24And a servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, and forbearing.
24O servo do Senhor não deve brigar, mas ser amável com todos, apto para ensinar e paciente,
25He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.
25corrigindo com mansidão os que se opõem a ele. Talvez Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento que conduz ao pleno conhecimento da verdade,
26Then they will come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to his will.
26e eles possam voltar a si e escapar da armadilha do diabo, tendo sido levados cativos por ele para fazer a sua vontade.
