1Beloved, this is now my second letter to you. Both of them are reminders to stir you to wholesome thinking
1Esta é agora, amados, a segunda carta que lhes escrevo; e em ambas procuro estimular o pensamento sincero de vocês por meio de lembranças,
2by recalling what was foretold by the holy prophets and commanded by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.
2para que se lembrem das palavras ditas no passado pelos santos profetas e do mandamento que nós, apóstolos do Senhor e Salvador, lhes demos;
3Most importantly, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
3sabendo primeiramente isto: que nos últimos dias virão zombadores, andando segundo as suas próprias paixões
4“Where is the promise of His coming?” they will ask. “Ever since our fathers fell asleep, everything continues as it has from the beginning of creation.”
4e dizendo: “Onde está a promessa da sua vinda? Porque, desde o dia em que os pais adormeceram, todas as coisas continuam como eram desde o princípio da criação.”
5But they deliberately overlook the fact that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water,
5Pois eles esquecem voluntariamente que existiam céus desde a antiguidade e uma terra formada da água e no meio da água pela palavra de Deus;
6through which the world of that time perished in the flood.
6por esses meios, o mundo que então existia pereceu, inundado pelas águas.
7And by that same word, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
7Mas os céus e a terra que agora existem, pela mesma palavra, estão reservados para o fogo, sendo guardados para o dia do juízo e da destruição dos homens ímpios.
8Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
8Mas não se esqueçam desta única coisa, amados: que um dia para o Senhor é como mil anos, e mil anos como um dia.
9The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.
9O Senhor não demora em cumprir a sua promessa, como alguns consideram a demora; mas ele é paciente conosco, não desejando que ninguém pereça, mas que todos cheguem ao arrependimento.
10But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
10Mas o dia do Senhor virá como um ladrão na noite, no qual os céus passarão com grande estrondo, e os elementos se desfarão pelo fogo intenso; e a terra e as obras que nela há serão queimadas.
11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness
11Portanto, uma vez que todas estas coisas serão destruídas desta maneira, que tipo de pessoas vocês devem ser, vivendo em santidade e piedade,
12as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat.
12aguardando e desejando ardentemente a vinda do dia de Deus, que fará com que os céus em chamas se desfaçam e os elementos se derretam com o fogo intenso?
13But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
13Mas, de acordo com a sua promessa, aguardamos novos céus e uma nova terra, nos quais habita a justiça.
14Therefore, beloved, as you anticipate these things, make every effort to be found at peace—spotless and blameless in His sight.
14Portanto, amados, visto que vocês aguardam estas coisas, empenhem-se para que ele os encontre em paz, sem mancha e irrepreensíveis.
15Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him.
15Considerem a paciência do nosso Senhor como salvação; assim como o nosso amado irmão Paulo também lhes escreveu, de acordo com a sabedoria que lhe foi dada,
16He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
16como também em todas as suas cartas, falando nelas sobre estas coisas. Nelas, há algumas coisas difíceis de entender, as quais os ignorantes e instáveis distorcem, como também o fazem com as demais Escrituras, para a sua própria destruição.
17Therefore, beloved, since you already know these things, be on your guard so that you will not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure standing.
17Vocês, portanto, amados, sabendo destas coisas de antemão, tenham cuidado para não serem levados pelo erro dos perversos e caírem da sua própria firmeza.
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
18Mas cresçam na graça e no conhecimento de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. A ele seja a glória, tanto agora como eternamente. Amém.
