1David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.
1ダビデは、千人の長たち、百人の長たち、およびすべての指導者たちと協議した。
2David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the LORD our God, let’s send word everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have pasture lands, that they may gather themselves to us.
2ダビデはイスラエルの全会衆に言った。「もしあなたがたが良いと思い、それが私たちの神、主から出たことであるなら、イスラエル全土に残っている兄弟たちと、牧草地のある町々に住む祭司やレビ人に各地から知らせを送り、私たちのもとに集まってもらおう。
3Also, let’s bring the ark of our God back to us again, for we didn’t seek it in the days of Saul.”
3そして、私たちの神の箱を私たちのもとに移そう。サウルの時代には、私たちがこの箱を求めなかったからだ。」
4All the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
4全会衆はそうしようと言った。この事がすべての民の目に正しく映ったからである。
5So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor River of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim.
5そこでダビデは、神の箱をキルヤテ・エアルィムから運んで来るために、エジプトのシホルからハマトの入り口に至るまでの全イスラエルを集めた。
6David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there God the LORD’s ark that sits above the cherubim, that is called by the Name.
6ダビデと全イスラエルは、ケルビムの上に座しておられる神、主の箱をそこから運び上るために、バアラ、すなわちユダに属するキルヤテ・エアルィムへ上って行った。その箱は御名によって呼ばれていた。
7They carried God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.
7彼らはアビナダブの家から神の箱を新しい車に載せて運び出した。ウザとアヒオがその車を御していた。
8David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with cymbals, and with trumpets.
8ダビデと全イスラエルは、力の限り神の御前で喜び、歌い、竪琴、琴、タンバリン、シンバル、ラッパを奏でた。
9When they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.
9彼らがキドンの打ち場に着いたとき、ウザは手を伸ばして箱を押さえた。牛がつまずいたからである。
10The LORD’s anger burned against Uzza, and he struck him because he put his hand on the ark; and he died there before God.
10主の怒りがウザに向かって燃え上がり、彼が箱に手を伸ばしたため、主は彼を打たれた。彼はその場で神の御前に死んだ。
11David was displeased, because the LORD had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.
11主がウザを激しく打たれたので、ダビデは怒った。その場所は今日に至るまでペレツ・ウザと呼ばれている。
12David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring God’s ark home to me?”
12その日、ダビデは神を恐れて言った。「どうして神の箱を私のもとに運ぶことができようか。」
13So David didn’t move the ark with him into David’s city, but carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.
13そこでダビデは、その箱を自分のいるダビデの町へは移さず、ガテ人オベド・エドムの家へ運ばせた。
14God’s ark remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months; and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom’s house and all that he had.
14神の箱はオベド・エドムの家族とともに彼の家に三か月とどまった。主はオベド・エドムの家と彼のすべての持ち物を祝福された。
