1I said in my heart: 'Come now, I will try thee with mirth, and enjoy pleasure'; and, behold, this also was vanity.
1Palung thungah ka poek, Vaihi caeh ah, takpum nawmhaih loe kawbang maw oh tito kam tuengsak han, toe hae hmuen doeh azom pui ni.
2I said of laughter: 'It is mad'; and of mirth: 'What doth it accomplish?'
2Pahnuihaih loe amthuhaih ah oh moe, nawmhaih mah timaw angcoengsak? tiah ka thuih.
3I searched in my heart how to pamper my flesh with wine, and, my heart conducting itself with wisdom, how yet to lay hold on folly, till I might see which it was best for the sons of men that they should do under the heaven the few days of their life.
4I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards;
4Kalen parai tok to ka sak; kaimah hanah imnawk to ka sak moe, misur takhanawk doeh ka sak.
5I made me gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit;
6I made me pools of water, to water therefrom the wood springing up with trees;
6Thingnawk to tui paek hanah, tuili to ka sak.
7I acquired men-servants and maid-servants, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all that were before me in Jerusalem;
7Ka im ah tapen tamnanawk, tamna nongpatanawk hoi nongpanawk doeh ka tawnh; kai om ai naah Jerusalem ah kaom tangcae kaminawk pongah doeh maitaw hoi tuunawk to ka tawnh kue.
8I gathered me also silver and gold, and treasure such as kings and the provinces have as their own; I got me men-singers and women-singers, and the delights of the sons of men, women very many.
8Kaimah hanah sui hoi sumkanglungnawk to ka patung, siangpahrangnawk hoi prae thung ih hmuenmaenawk boih doeh ka tawnh; laasak kop nongpa hoi nongpatanawk to ka tawnh moe, nongpanawk poeknawm o hanah laasakhaih ahmuennawk, congca hmuennawk doeh ka tawnh.
9So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem; also my wisdom stood me in stead.
9Kai loe ka len parai, ka hmaa ah kaom Jerusalem kaminawk pongah ka len moe, palunghahaih doeh ka tawnh.
10And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy, for my heart had joy of all my labour; and this was my portion from all my labour.
10Ka mik mah khit ih hmuennawk nuiah angsumhaih ka tawn ai, ka palungthin nawmsak koi hmuen pongah angsumhaih ka tawn ai; ka toksakhaih boih ah anghoehaih ka tawnh; ka toksakhaih tangqum to ka hnuk.
11Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do; and, behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was no profit under the sun.
12And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness and folly; for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.
12To pacoengah poekhaih ka paqoi moe, palunghahaih, palungmaenghaih hoi amthuhaihnawk to ka poek; sak tangcae hmuennawk pong kamtlai ah, siangpahrang pacoengah kaom kami mah timaw sah thai tih?
13Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
13Aanghaih loe vinghaih pongah hoih kue baktih toengah, palunghahaih loe amthuhaih pongah hoih kue, tito ka panoek.
14The wise man, his eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness. And I also perceived that one event happeneth to them all.
14Palungha kami ih mik loe a lu nuiah suek; toe kamthu loe vinghaih thungah caeh; toe boeng naah nihnik mah tongh han koi hmuen loe maeto ah ni oh, tito ka panoek.
15Then said I in my heart: 'As it happeneth to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then more wise?' Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
15To pongah palung thungah hae tiah ka poek, Kamthu khaeah kaom hmuen baktiah ni, kai khaeah doeh oh toeng; to tih nahaeloe tipongah kai loe palungha kue ah ka oh loe? To pacoengah loe ka palung thungah, Hae hmuen doeh azom pui bae hae, tiah ka poek.
16For of the wise man, even as of the fool, there is no remembrance for ever; seeing that in the days to come all will long ago have been forgotten. And how must the wise man die even as the fool!
16Vaihi kaom hmuennawk hae hmabangah loe pahnet boih ah om tih, to pongah palungha kami doeh kamthu baktiah ni pahnet o tih; palungha kami doeh kamthu baktiah ni dueh toeng tih.
17So I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous unto me; for all is vanity and a striving after wind.
18And I hated all my labour wherein I laboured under the sun, seeing that I must leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
19And who knoweth whether he will be a wise man or a fool? yet will he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.
19Anih loe palungha maw, to tih ai boeh loe amthu maw, tiah mi mah maw panoek tih? Tha pathok moe, tok ka sakhaih boih, ni tlim ah palunghahaih kam tuengsak ih hmuennawk boih loe anih mah ni la tih. To pongah hae hmuen doeh azom pui ni.
20Therefore I turned about to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labour wherein I had laboured under the sun.
21For there is a man whose labour is with wisdom, and with knowledge, and with skill; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
21Kami mah palunghahaih, panoekhaih, thoemhaih hoi toksah tih, toe a tawnh ih hmuennawk to toksah ai kami hanah ni caehtaak boih tih. Hae hmuen doeh azom pui ah oh moe, kalen koek tahamsethaih ah ni oh.
22For what hath a man of all his labour, and of the striving of his heart, wherein he laboureth under the sun?
22Kami mah ni tlim ah tha pathokhaih boih, poek patanghaih hoi toksakhaih pongah, timaw amekhaih hnuk?
23For all his days are pains, and his occupation vexation; yea, even in the night his heart taketh not rest. This also is vanity.
23Anih ih aninawk boih loe palungsethaih ah oh moe, a toksakhaih doeh patangkhanghaih ah ni oh; ue, aqum ah doeh palungthin to anghak ai. Hae hmuen doeh azom pui ni.
24There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy pleasure for his labour. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.
24Kami loe caak moe, naek pacoengah, sak ih tok nui ah kanawm acaenghaih pongah kahoih kue tidoeh om ai boeh. Ka hnukhaih dan ah, hae hmuen doeh Sithaw ban hoi kaom hmuen ah ni oh.
25For who will eat, or who will enjoy, if not I?
25Angmah ai ah, mi maw caaknaek to hnu moe, nawmhaih pakrong thaih?
26For to the man that is good in His sight He giveth wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner He giveth the task, to gather and to heap up, that he may leave to him that is good in the sight of God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.
26A mikhnuk ah kahoih kami khaeah Sithaw mah, palunghahaih, panoekhaih hoi anghoehaih to paek; toe kazae kami khaeah loe khosak raihaih to paek tih, anih mah tawnh ih hmuennawk loe Sithaw palung anghoesak kami hanah paek boih tih. Hae hmuen doeh azom pui ni, takhi hnukah patom rumramhaih tok ah ni oh.
