1ΚΑΙ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξῇρεν ὁ λαὸς ἐξ Ἀσηρώθ, καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ Φαράν.
1And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
2καὶ ἐλάλησε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων·
2'Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.'
3ἀπόστειλον σεαυτῷ ἄνδρας, καὶ κατασκεψάσθωσαν τὴν γῆν τῶν Χαναναίων, ἣν ἐγὼ δίδωμι τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ εἰς κατάσχεσιν, ἄνδρα ἕνα κατὰ φυλήν, κατὰ δήμους πατριῶν αὐτῶν ἀποστελεῖς αὐτούς, πάντα ἀρχηγὸν ἐξ αὐτῶν.
3And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of the LORD; all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.
4καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς ἐκ τῆς ἐρήμου Φαρὰν διὰ φωνῆς Κυρίου· πάντες ἄνδρες ἀρχηγοὶ υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ οὗτοι.
4And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
5καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν· τῆς φυλῆς Ρουβὴν Σαμουὴλ υἱὸς Ζαχούρ·
5Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6τῆς φυλῆς Συμεὼν Σαφὰτ υἱὸς Σουρί·
6Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7τῆς φυλῆς Ἰούδα Χάλεφ υἱὸς Ἰεφοννή·
7Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
8τῆς φυλῆς Ἰσσάχαρ Ἰλαὰλ υἱὸς Ἰωσήφ·
8Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.
9τῆς φυλῆς Ἐφραὶμ Αὐσὴ υἱὸς Ναυή·
9Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
10τῆς φυλῆς Βενιαμὶν Φαλτὶ υἱὸς Ραφοῦ·
10Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
11τῆς φυλῆς Ζαβουλὼν Γουδιὴλ υἱὸς Σουδί·
11Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
12τῆς φυλῆς Ἰωσὴφ τῶν υἱῶν Μανασσῆ, Γαδὶ υἱὸς Σουσί·
12Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
13τῆς φυλῆς Δὰν Ἀμιὴλ υἱὸς Γαμαλί·
13Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
14τῆς φυλῆς Ἀσὴρ Σαθοὺρ υἱὸς Μιχαήλ·
14Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλὶ Ναβὶ υἱὸς Σαβί·
15Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16τῆς φυλῆς Γὰδ Γουδιὴλ υἱὸς Μακχί·
16These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
17ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν, οὓς ἀπέστειλε Μωυσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν γῆν. καὶ ἐπωνόμασε Μωυσῆς τὸν Αὐσὴ υἱὸν Ναυὴ Ἰησοῦν.
17And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them: 'Get you up here into the South, and go up into the mountains;
18καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν γῆν Χαναὰν καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· ἀνάβητε ταύτῃ τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ ἀναβήσεσθε εἰς τὸ ὄρος,
18and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;
19καὶ ὄψεσθε τὴν γῆν, τίς ἐστι, καὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν ἐγκαθήμενον ἐπ' αὐτῆς, εἰ ἰσχυρός ἐστιν ἢ ἀσθενής, εἰ ὀλίγοι εἰσὶν ἢ πολλοί·
19and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;
20καὶ τίς ἡ γῆ, εἰς ἣν οὗτοι ἐγκάθηνται ἐπ' αὐτῆς, εἰ καλή ἐστιν ἢ πονηρά· καὶ τίνες αἱ πόλεις, ἃς οὗτοι κατοικοῦσιν ἐν αὐταῖς, εἰ ἐν τειχήρεσιν ἢ ἐν ἀτειχίστοις·
20and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land.' — Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes. —
21καὶ τίς ἡ γῆ, εἰ πίων ἢ παρειμένη, εἰ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῇ δένδρα ἢ οὔ· καὶ προσκαρτερήσαντες λήψεσθε ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν τῆς γῆς. καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι ἡμέραι ἔαρος, πρόδρομοι σταφυλῆς.
21So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, at the entrance to Hamath.
22καὶ ἀναβάντες κατεσκέψαντο τὴν γῆν ἀπὸ τῆς ἐρήμου Σὶν ἕως Ροόβ, εἰσπορευομένων Αἰμάθ.
22And they went up into the South, and came unto Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. — Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt. —
23καὶ ἀνέβησαν κατὰ τὴν ἔρημον καὶ ἀπῆλθον ἕως Χεβρών, καὶ ἐκεῖ Ἀχιμὰν καὶ Σεσσὶ καὶ Θελαμί, γενεαὶ Ἐνάχ· καὶ Χεβρὼν ἑπτὰ ἔτεσιν ᾠκοδομήθη πρὸ τοῦ Τανὶν Αἰγύπτου.
23And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a pole between two; they took also of the pomegranates, and of the figs. —
24καὶ ἤλθοσαν ἕως Φάραγγος βότρυος, καὶ κατεσκέψαντο αὐτήν· καὶ ἔκοψαν ἐκεῖθεν κλῆμα καὶ βότρυν σταφυλῆς ἕνα ἐπ' αὐτοῦ καὶ ᾖραν αὐτὸν ἐπ' ἀναφορεῦσι καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ροῶν, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν συκῶν.
24That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence. —
25καὶ τὸν τόπον ἐκεῖνον ἐπωνόμασαν Φάραγξ βότρυος διὰ τὸν βότρυν, ὃν ἔκοψαν ἐκεῖθεν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ.
25And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
26Καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν ἐκεῖθεν κατασκεψάμενοι τὴν γῆν μετὰ τεσσαράκοντα ἡμέρας.
26And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27καὶ πορευθέντες ἦλθον πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν καὶ πρὸς πᾶσαν συναγωγὴν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, εἰς τὴν ἔρημον Φαρὰν Κάδης καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτοῖς ρῆμα καὶ πάσῃ συναγωγῇ καὶ ἔδειξαν τὸν καρπὸν τῆς γῆς.
27And they told him, and said: 'We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28καὶ διηγήσαντο αὐτῷ καὶ εἶπαν· ἤλθαμεν εἰς τὴν γῆν, εἰς ἣν ἀπέστειλας ἡμᾶς, γῆν ρέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι, καὶ οὗτος ὁ καρπὸς αὐτῆς·
28Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are fierce, and the cities are fortified, and very great; and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29ἀλλ' ἢ ὅτι θρασὺ τὸ ἔθνος τὸ κατοικοῦν ἐπ' αὐτῆς, καὶ αἱ πόλεις ὀχυραὶ τετειχισμέναι μεγάλαι σφόδρα, καὶ τὴν γενεὰν Ἐνὰχ ἑωράκαμεν ἐκεῖ,
29Amalek dwelleth in the land of the South; and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanite dwelleth by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.'
30καὶ Ἀμαλὴκ κατοικεῖ ἐν τῇ γῇ τῇ πρὸς νότον, καὶ ὁ Χετταῖος καὶ ὁ Εὐαῖος καὶ ὁ Ἰεβουσαῖος καὶ ὁ Ἀμορραῖος κατοικεῖ ἐν τῇ ὀρεινῇ, καὶ ὁ Χαναναῖος κατοικεῖ παρὰ θάλασσαν καὶ παρὰ τὸν Ἰορδάνην ποταμόν.
30And Caleb stilled the people toward Moses, and said: 'We should go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.'
31καὶ κατεσιώπησε Χάλεβ τὸν λαὸν πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· οὐχί, ἀλλὰ ἀναβάντες ἀναβησόμεθα καὶ κατακληρονομήσομεν αὐτήν, ὅτι δυνατοὶ δυνησόμεθα πρὸς αὐτούς.
31But the men that went up with him said: 'We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.'
32καὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ συναναβάντες μετ' αὐτοῦ εἶπαν· οὐκ ἀναβαίνομεν, ὅτι οὐ μὴ δυνώμεθα ἀναβῆναι πρὸς τὸ ἔθνος, ὅτι ἰσχυρότερον ἡμῶν ἐστι μᾶλλον.
32And they spread an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying: 'The land, through which we have passed to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
33καὶ ἐξήνεγκαν ἔκστασιν τῆς γῆς, ἣν κατεσκέψαντο αὐτὴν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραήλ, λέγοντες· τὴν γῆν, ἣν παρήλθομεν αὐτὴν κατασκέψασθαι, γῆ κατέσθουσα τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐπ' αὐτῆς ἐστι· καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαός, ὃν ἑωράκαμεν ἐν αὐτῇ, ἄνδρες ὑπερμήκεις·
33And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.'
34καὶ ἐκεῖ ἑωράκαμεν τοὺς γίγαντας καὶ ἦμεν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ ἀκρίδες, ἀλλὰ καὶ οὕτως ἦμεν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν.
