Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
1Thou shalt not sacrifice to the Lord thy God a sheep, or an ox, wherein there is blemish, or any fault: for that is an abomination to the Lord thy God.
1“ʻOua naʻa ke feilaulau ʻaki kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ha pulu, pe ha sipi, ʻaia ʻoku ai hano mele, pe ha momoʻi kovi: he ko e meʻa kovi ia kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
2When there shall be found among you within any of thy gates, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, man or woman that do evil in the sight of the Lord thy God, and transgress his covenant,
2¶ “Kapau ʻoku ʻilo ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻi ha kolo ʻaia ʻoku tuku mai ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua kiate koe, ha tangata pe ha fefine, ʻaia kuo fai ʻe ia ʻae angakovi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻi he fai talangataʻa ki heʻene fuakava,
3So as to go and serve strange gods, and adore them, the sun and the moon. and all the host of heaven, which I have not commanded:
3Pea kuo ʻalu ia ʻo tauhi ʻotua kehe, pea lotu ki ai, pe ko e laʻā, pe ko e māhina, pe ha meʻa ʻe taha ʻi he langi, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te u fekau;
4And this is told thee, and hearing it thou hast inquired diligently, and found it to be true, and that the abomination is committed in Israel:
4Pea kapau ʻoku tala ia kiate koe, pea kuo ke fanongo ki ai, mo ke fehuʻi fakapapau, pea vakai, ʻoku moʻoni, pea kuo pau pe ʻae meʻa ko ia, kuo fai ʻi ʻIsileli ʻae meʻa kovi ko ia:
5Thou shalt bring forth the man or the woman, who have committed that most wicked thing, to the gates of thy city, and they shall be stoned.
5Te ke toki ʻomi kituʻa ʻae tangata pe ko e fefine ko ia, ʻaia kuo ne fai ʻae meʻa kovi ko ia, ki ho matapā, ʻio, ʻae tangata pe ko e fefine ko ia, pea tolongaki ʻaki ia ʻae maka, ke mate.
6By the mouth of two or three witnesses shall he die that is to be slain. Let no man be put to death, when only one beareth witness against him.
6¶ “ʻI he ngutu ʻoe fakamoʻoni ʻe toko ua, pe toko tolu, ʻe tuku ke mate ʻaia ʻoku totonu ke mate; ka ʻi he ngutu ʻoe fakamoʻoni ʻe tokotaha pe ʻe ʻikai fakamaau ke mate ia;
7The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to kill him, and afterwards the hands of the rest of the people: that thou mayst take away the evil out of the midst of thee.
7‌ʻE tomuʻa ʻai ʻae nima ʻoe kau fakamoʻoni kiate ia ke tāmateʻi ia, pea toki hoko ʻae nima ʻoe kakai kotoa pē. ʻE pehē ʻa hoʻomou tukuange ai ʻae kovi ʻiate kimoutolu.
8If thou perceive that there be among you a hard and doubtful matter in judgment between blood and blood, cause and cause, leprosy and leprosy: and thou see that the words of the judges within thy gates do vary: arise, and go up to the place, which the Lord thy God shall choose.
8¶ “Kapau ʻe hoko ha meʻa ʻoku fifilingataʻa ʻaupito ʻa hono fakamaauʻi, ʻi he fetāmateʻiʻaki, ʻi he fefakamaau ʻaki, mo e fetāʻaki, ʻaia ʻoku tupu ai ʻae fakakikihi ʻi hoʻo ngaahi kolo: pea te ke toki tuʻu hake, ʻo ʻalu hake ki he potu ʻaia ʻe fili ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua;
9And thou shalt come to the priests of the Levitical race, and to the judge, that shall be at that time: and thou shalt ask of them, and they shall shew thee the truth of the judgment.
9Pea te ke haʻu ki he kau taulaʻeiki ko e kau Livai, pea kiate ia ʻoku fakamaau ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia, pea ke fehuʻi ki ai; pea tenau fakahā kiate koe ʻa hono fakamaau totonu.
10And thou shalt do whatsoever they shall say, that preside in the place, which the Lord shall choose, and what they shall teach thee,
10Pea te ke fai ʻo hangē ko hono fakatonutonu, ʻaia ʻe fakahā ʻi he potu ko ia kiate koe ʻekinautolu, ʻi he potu ko ia ʻaia kuo fili ʻe Sihova; pea te ke tokanga ke fai ʻo fakatatau ki he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku nau tala kiate koe:
11According to his law; and thou shalt follow their sentence: neither shalt thou decline to the right hand nor to the left hand.
11Ke ke fai ʻo tatau mo e fakamaau ʻoe fono ʻaia tenau ako ʻaki kiate koe, pea hangē ko e fakamaau ʻaia tenau tala kiate koe, ʻoua naʻa ke afe mei hono fakatonutonu ʻaia tenau fakahā kiate koe, ki he nima toʻomataʻu, pe ki he toʻohema.
12But he that will be proud, and refuse to obey the commandment of the priest, who ministereth at that time to the Lord thy God, and the decree of the judge, that man shall die, and thou shalt take away the evil from Israel:
12“Pea ko e tangata ko ia ʻoku pau pe ke fai loto lahi, pea ʻoku ʻikai fie fanongo ki he taulaʻeiki ʻaia ʻoku tuʻu ke tauhi ʻi ai ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, pe ki he fakamaau, ko e tangata ko ia ʻe mate: pea te ke tukuange ʻae kovi mei ʻIsileli.
13And all the people hearing it shall fear, that no one afterwards swell with pride.
13Pea ʻe fanongo ki ai ʻae kakai kotoa pē, pea manavahē, pea ʻe ʻikai toe fai ʻae anga loto lahi.
14When thou art come into the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee, and possessest it, and shalt say: I will set a king over me, as all nations have that are round about:
14¶ “ʻI hoʻo hoko atu ki he fonua ʻaia ʻoku foaki ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua kiate koe, pea ke maʻu ia, mo ke nofo ki ai, pea ke pehē, Te u fakanofo ha tuʻi ke pule kiate au, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻoku takatakai au;
15Thou shalt set him whom the Lord thy God shall choose out of the number of thy brethren. Thou mayst not make a man of another nation king, that is not thy brother.
15Ko e moʻoni ke ke fakanofo ia ko e tuʻi ke pule kiate koe, ʻaia ʻe fili ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua: ke ke fakanofo ha tokotaha mei ho kāinga ko e tuʻi kiate koe: ʻoua naʻa ke fakanofo ha muli ke pule kiate koe, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai ko ho tokoua.
16And when he is made king, he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor lead back the people into Egypt, being lifted up with the number of his horsemen, especially since the Lord hath commanded you to return no more the same way.
16Kaeʻoua naʻa fakalahi ʻe ia ʻae fanga hoosi kiate ia, pe pule ke toe ʻalu atu ʻae kakai ki ʻIsipite, koeʻuhi ke ne fakalahi ʻae fanga hoosi: he kuo folofola ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu, ʻE ʻikai te mou toe ʻalu ʻi he hala ko ia.
17He shall not have many wives, that may allure his mind, nor immense sums of silver and gold.
17Pea ʻoua naʻa fakatokolahi ʻe ia ʻae uaifi kiate ia, telia naʻa afe kehe hono loto: pea ʻoua naʻa ne fakalahi ʻaupito ʻae siliva mo e koula kiate ia.
18But after he is raised to the throne of his kingdom, he shall copy out to himself the Deuteronomy of this law in a volume, taking the copy of the priests of the Levitical tribe,
18Pea ʻoka hoko ia ʻo nofo ʻi he nofoʻa fakatuʻi ʻo hono puleʻanga, te ne hiki ʻo tohi nima maʻana ʻae fono ni ʻi ha tohi mei he tohi ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki mo e kau Livai:
19And he shall have it with him, and shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, and keep his words and ceremonies, that are commanded in the law;
19Pea ʻe ʻiate ia ia, pea te ne lau ʻi ai ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho kotoa pē ʻo ʻene moʻui: koeʻuhi ke ʻilo ai ia ke manavahē kia Sihova ko hono ʻOtua, ke fai ki he ngaahi lea kotoa pē ʻoe fono ni mo e ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ke fai ki ai:
20And that his heart be not lifted up with pride over his brethren, nor decline to the right or to the left, that he and his sons may reign a long time over Israel.
20Ke ʻoua naʻa hiki hake hono loto ki hono kāinga, pea ke ʻoua naʻa tafoki mei he fekau, ki he nima toʻomataʻu, pe ki he toʻohema: koeʻuhi ke fakatolonga ai hono ngaahi ʻaho ʻi hono puleʻanga, ʻa ia, mo ʻene ngaahi fānau, ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo ʻIsileli.
