Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
1And when it came to pass that, being parted from them, we set sail, we came with a straight course to Coos, and the day following to Rhodes, and from thence to Patara.
1Pea pehē, kuo mau māvae mo kinautolu, pea mau folau, ʻo mau lā taha ki Kusa, pea ʻi he ʻaho naʻa na feholoi ki Lota, pea mei ai ki Patala:
2And when we had found a ship sailing over to Phenice, we went aboard, and set forth.
2Pea ʻi heʻemau ʻilo ʻae vaka ʻoku folau ki Finesi, naʻa mau heka ai, ʻo ʻalu.
3And when we had discovered Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed into Syria, and came to Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.
3Pea ʻi heʻemau kite ki Saipalo, naʻa mau tuku ia ki he toʻohema, kae folau ki Silia, pea mau tūʻuta ki Taia: he ko e potu ia ke hifo ai ʻae uta ʻae vaka.
4And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.
5And the days being expired, departing we went forward, they all bringing us on our way, with their wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and we prayed.
5Pea kuo ʻosi ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ko ia, naʻa mau ʻalu ʻo fononga ʻi homau hala; pea naʻe moimoiʻi ʻakimautolu ki he tuaʻā kolo ʻekinautolu kotoa pē, mo honau uaifi mo ʻenau fānau: pea naʻa mau tuʻulutui ʻi he matātahi, ʻo lotu.
6And when we had bid one another farewell, we took ship; and they returned home.
6Pea kuo mau māvae mo kinautolu, pea mau heka ki vaka; kae foki ʻakinautolu ki honau ʻapi.
7But we having finished the voyage by sea, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais: and saluting the brethren, we abode one day with them.
7Pea ne mau folau mei Taia ki Tolimease, pea ngata ai ʻemau folau, pea naʻa mau feʻiloaki mo e kāinga, pea mau nonofo mo kinautolu ʻi he ʻaho pe taha.
8And the next day departing, we came to Caesarea. And entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.
8Pea pongipongi hake, ko kimautolu ʻae kau fononga ʻo Paula, naʻa mau ʻalu, ʻo aʻu atu ki Sesalia: pea mau hū ki he fale ʻo Filipe ko e ʻevangeliō, ko e tokotaha ia ʻi he toko fitu; pea naʻa mau nonofo mo ia.
9And he had four daughters, virgins, who did prophesy.
9Pea naʻe maʻu ʻe he tangata ko ia ʻae ʻofefine tāupoʻou ʻe toko fā, pea naʻe kikite ʻakinautolu.
10And as we tarried there for some days, there came from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
10Pea ʻi heʻemau nofo ʻo ʻaho lahi ai, naʻe ʻalu hifo mei Siutea ʻae palōfita ʻe tokotaha, ʻoku hingoa ko ʻAkapusi.
11Who, when he was come to us, took Paul’s girdle: and binding his own feet and hands, he said: Thus saith the Holy Ghost: The man whose girdle this is, the Jews shall bind in this manner in Jerusalem, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
11Pea kuo haʻu ia kiate kimautolu, pea ne toʻo ʻae noʻo ʻo Paula, ʻo ne haʻi ʻaki hono nima mo hono vaʻe ʻoʻona pē, mo ne pehē, “ʻOku pehē ʻe he Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni, ʻE pehē hono haʻisia ʻe he kakai Siu ʻi Selūsalema ʻae tangata ʻoku ʻoʻona ʻae noʻo ni, ʻonau tuku ia ki he nima ʻoe Senitaile.”
12Which when we had heard, both we and they that were of that place, desired him that he would not go up to Jerusalem.
12Pea ko kimautolu naʻa mau fanongo ki he ngaahi meʻa ni, mo kinautolu ʻoe potu ko ia, naʻa mau kole ke ʻoua naʻa ʻalu hake ia ki Selūsalema.
13Then Paul answered, and said: What do you mean weeping and afflicting my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but to die also in Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord Jesus.
13Ka naʻe pehē ʻe Paula, “Ko e hā eni ʻoku mou fai, ʻo fetāngihi ke fasi ai hoku loto? He ʻoku ou te u ke ʻoua ʻe haʻisia pē, kae mate foki ʻi Selūsalema, koeʻuhi ko e huafa ʻoe ʻEiki ko Sisu.”
14And when we could not persuade him, we ceased, saying: The will of the Lord be done.
14Pea ʻi he ʻikai tui mai ia, naʻa mau tuku, ʻo mau pehē, “Ke fai pe ʻae finangalo ʻoe ʻEiki.”
15And after those days, being prepared, we went up to Jerusalem.
15Pea kuo hili ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ko ia, pea mau fakamaʻopoʻopo meʻa, ʻo fononga hake ki Selūsalema.
16And there went also with us some of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing with them one Mnason a Cyprian, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.
16Pea naʻa mau ō mo e niʻihi ʻoe kau ākonga mei Sesalia, pea naʻa nau ʻave ʻakimautolu kia Nesoni mei Saipalo, ko e ākonga motuʻa, ke mau nonofo mo ia.
17And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.
17Pea kuo mau ʻalu atu ki Selūsalema, naʻe maʻu fiefia ʻakimautolu ʻe he kāinga.
18And the day following, Paul went in with us unto James; and all the ancients were assembled.
18Pea pongipongi hake, naʻa mau ō mo Paula kia Semisi; pea naʻe kātoa ʻae kau mātuʻa kotoa pē.
19Whom when he had saluted, he related particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
19Pea kuo ne feʻiloaki mo kinautolu, pea ne fakamatala lahi ʻae ngaahi meʻa kuo fai ʻe he ʻOtua ʻi he kakai Senitaile ʻi heʻene ngāue.
20But they hearing it, glorified God, and said to him: Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews that have believed: and they are all zealous for the law.
20Pea kuo nau fanongo ki ai, pea nau fakamālō ki he ʻEiki, mo nau pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ke vakai, ʻe kāinga, ki he ngaahi toko mano ʻoe kakai Siu ʻoku tui; pea ʻoku nau pikitai kotoa pē ki he fono:
21Now they have heard of thee that thou teachest those Jews, who are among the Gentiles, to depart from Moses: saying, that they ought not to circumcise their children, nor walk according to the custom.
21Pea kuo nau fanongo kiate koe, ʻoku ke ako ki he kakai Siu kotoa pē ʻoku feangai mo e hiteni ke nau liʻaki ʻa Mōsese, ʻo pehē, ke ʻoua ʻe kamu ʻenau tamaiki, pe muimui ki he ngaahi meʻa kuo tuʻutuʻuni.
22What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.
22Pea ko e hā ai ʻe fai? koeʻuhi ʻe kātoa mai ʻae fuʻu kakai: he tenau fanongo kuo ke haʻu.
23Do therefore this that we say to thee. We have four men, who have a vow on them.
23Ko eni, ke ke fai ʻaia ʻoku mau tala atu kiate koe: ʻOku ʻiate kimautolu ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko fā kuo nau fai ʻae fuakava;
24Take these, and sanctify thyself with them: and bestow on them, that they may shave their heads: and all will know that the things which they have heard of thee, are false; but that thou thyself also walkest keeping the law.
24Pea ke ʻave ʻakinautolu, pea mou fakamaʻa mo kinautolu, pea ke totongi maʻanautolu, ka nau fafai honau ʻulu: pea ʻe ʻilo ai kotoa pē, ko e ngaahi meʻa kuo nau fanongo ai kiate koe, ko e launoa pē; ka ʻoku ke angimui koe, mo ke fai ki he fono.
25But as touching the Gentiles that believe, we have written, decreeing that they should only refrain themselves from that which has been offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangles, and from fornication.
25Pea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi Senitaile ʻoku tui, kuo mau fakamaau mo tohi ke ʻoua te nau fai meʻa pehē, ka ke nau taʻofi ʻakinautolu mei he meʻa kuo feilaulau ʻaki ki he ngaahi tamapua, mo e toto, mo e meʻa kuo sisina, pea mo e feʻauaki.”
26Then Paul took the men, and the next day being purified with them, entered into the temple, giving notice of the accomplishment of the days of purification, until an oblation should be offered for every one of them.
26Pea naʻe toki ʻave ʻe Paula ʻae kau tangata, pea ʻi he ʻaho naʻa na feholoi, ne ne fakamaʻa ia mo kinautolu, pea ne hū ia ki he falelotu lahi, ke fakahā ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ʻoe fakamaʻa, kaeʻoua ke fai ha feilaulau maʻanautolu taki taha kotoa pē.
27But when the seven days were drawing to an end, those Jews that were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands upon him, crying out:
27Pea kuo tei kakato ʻae ʻaho ʻe fitu, pea ko e kau Siu mei ʻEsia, ʻi heʻenau mamata kiate ia ʻi he falelotu lahi, naʻa nau ueʻi ʻae kakai kotoa pē, ʻo puke ia,
28Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place; and moreover hath brought in Gentiles into the temple, and hath violated this holy place.
28Mo nau kalanga, ʻo pehē , “ʻAe kau tangata ʻIsileli, tokoni mai: Ko eni ʻae tangata, ʻoku ne ako kovi ki he kakai kotoa pē ʻi he potu fulipē ki he kakai ni, mo e fono, mo e potu ni: pea kuo ʻomi foki ʻe ia ʻae kau Kiliki ki he falelotu lahi, pea kuo ne ʻuliʻi ʻae potu tapu ni.”
29(For they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
29(He kuo nau tomuʻa mamata kiate ia mo Talofimo mei ʻEfesō ʻi he kolo, pea naʻa nau mahalo kuo ʻomi ia ʻe Paula ki he falelotu lahi.)
30And the whole city was in an uproar: and the people ran together. And taking Paul, they drew him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut.
30Pea naʻe maveuveu ʻae kolo kotoa pē, ko e feleleʻi ʻae kakai ʻo fakataha: pea naʻa nau puke ʻa Paula, mo toho ia mei he falelotu lahi: pea tāpuni leva ʻae ngaahi matapā.
31And as they went about to kill him, it was told the tribune of the band, That all Jerusalem was in confusion.
31Pea ʻi heʻenau fai ke fakapoongi ia, naʻe haʻu hono tala ki he pule ʻoe kau tau, kuo maveuveu ʻa Selūsalema kotoa pē.
32Who, forthwith taking with him soldiers and centurions, ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers they left off beating Paul.
32Pea ʻave leva ʻe ia ʻae kautau mo e kau ʻeikitau, pea nau feleleʻi hifo kiate kinautolu: pea kuo nau mamata ki he pule mo e kau tau, naʻe tuku ʻenau haha ʻa Paula.
33Then the tribune coming near, took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains: and demanded who he was, and what he had done.
33Pea toki ʻalu atu ʻo ofi ʻae pule ʻoe tau, pea ne puke ia, mo ne fekau ke haʻi ʻaki ia ʻae ukamea fihifihi ʻe ua; mo ne fehuʻi pe ko hai ia, pea ko e hā ʻae meʻa kuo ne fai.
34And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude. And when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
34Pea fekalangaʻi ʻe he kakai ʻaki ʻae meʻa kehekehe: pea ʻi he ʻikai te ne faʻa ʻiloʻi hono moʻoni, ko e meʻa naʻa ne fekau ke ʻave ia ki he fale lahi ʻoe kau tau.
35And when he was come to the stairs, it fell out that he was carried by the soldiers, because of the violence of the people.
35Pea ʻi heʻene hoko ki he hala ki ʻolunga, naʻe fua hake ia ʻe he kau tau, he kuo feʻohofi mai ʻae kakai.
36For the multitude of the people followed after, crying: Away with him.
36He naʻe muimui ʻae fuʻu kakai, mo nau kalangaekina, Ke ʻave ia.
37And as Paul was about to be brought into the castle, he saith to the tribune: May speak something to thee? Who said: Canst thou speak Greek?
37Pea ʻi he fai ke tataki ʻa Paula ki he fale lahi ʻoe kau tau, naʻa ne pehē ki he pule ʻoe kau tau, “ʻE lelei ʻeku lea atu kiate koe?” Pea pehē ʻe ia, “ʻOku ke ʻilo ʻae lea fakaKiliki?”
38Art not thou that Egyptian who before these days didst raise a tumult, and didst lead forth into the desert four thousand men that were murderers?
38‌ʻIkai ko ʻIsipite ko ia ʻa koe, ʻaia naʻe fakatupu maveuveu ʻi muʻa, mo ne tataki ki he toafa ʻae kau tangata fakapō ʻe toko fā afe?”
39But Paul said to him: I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city. And I beseech thee, suffer me to speak to the people.
39Ka naʻe pehē ʻe Paula, “Ko e tangata Siu au ʻo Tasusi, ʻi Silisia, ko e tangata au ʻoe kolo ongoongo: pea ʻe, tuku ke u lea atu ki he kakai.”
40And when he had given him leave, Paul standing on the stairs, beckoned with his hand to the people. And a great silence being made, he spoke unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying:
40Pea kuo ne tuku ia ke ne lea , pea tuʻu ʻa Paula ʻi he hala ki ʻolunga, ʻo ne taʻalo ʻaki hono nima ki he kakai. Pea nau fakalongo, naʻa ne lea atu ʻi he lea fakaHepelū, ʻo pehē,
