Exodus 15

Berean Standard Bible
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
1Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
1Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spoke, saying: I will sing unto the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea.
2The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
2The LORD is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation; this is my God, and I will glorify Him; my father's God, and I will exalt Him.
3The LORD is a warrior, the LORD is His name.
3The LORD is a man of war, The LORD is His name.
4Pharaoh’s chariots and army He has cast into the sea; the finest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.
4Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath He cast into the sea, and his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea.
5The depths have covered them; they sank there like a stone.
5The deeps cover them — they went down into the depths like a stone.
6Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power; Your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy.
6Thy right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, Thy right hand, O LORD, dasheth in pieces the enemy.
7You overthrew Your adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it consumed them like stubble.
7And in the greatness of Thine excellency Thou overthrowest them that rise up against Thee; Thou sendest forth Thy wrath, it consumeth them as stubble.
8At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up; like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths congealed in the heart of the sea.
8And with the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were piled up — the floods stood upright as a heap; the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.
9The enemy declared, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.’
9The enemy said: 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'
10But You blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
10Thou didst blow with Thy wind, the sea covered them; they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
11Who among the gods is like You, O LORD? Who is like You—majestic in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?
11Who is like unto Thee, O LORD, among the mighty? who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12You stretched out Your right hand, and the earth swallowed them up.
12Thou stretchedst out Thy right hand — the earth swallowed them.
13With loving devotion You will lead the people You have redeemed; with Your strength You will guide them to Your holy dwelling.
13Thou in Thy love hast led the people that Thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them in Thy strength to Thy holy habitation.
14The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the dwellers of Philistia.
14The peoples have heard, they tremble; pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia.
15Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; trembling will seize the leaders of Moab; those who dwell in Canaan will melt away,
15Then were the chiefs of Edom affrighted; the mighty men of Moab, trembling taketh hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.
16and terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of Your arm they will be as still as a stone until Your people pass by, O LORD, until the people You have bought pass by.
16Terror and dread falleth upon them; by the greatness of Thine arm they are as still as a stone; till Thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over that Thou hast gotten.
17You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance— the place, O LORD, You have prepared for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, Your hands have established.
17Thou bringest them in, and plantest them in the mountain of Thine inheritance, the place, O LORD, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established.
18The LORD will reign forever and ever!”
18The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.
19For when Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
19For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.
20Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her with tambourines and dancing.
20And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21And Miriam sang back to them: “Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.”
21And Miriam sang unto them: Sing ye to the LORD, for He is highly exalted: the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea.
22Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the Desert of Shur. For three days they walked in the desert without finding water.
22And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
23And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the water there because it was bitter. (That is why it was named Marah.)
23And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
24And the people murmured against Moses, saying: 'What shall we drink?'
25And Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log. And when he cast it into the waters, they were sweetened. There the LORD made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He tested them,
25And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There He made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He proved them;
26saying, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
26and He said: 'If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His eyes, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD that healeth thee.'
27Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.
27And they came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water, and three score and ten palm-trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
