Bible Mutal (Kosraean)
Douay-Rheims Bible, American Edition (1899)
1Abimelech, wen natul Gideon, el som nu Shechem, yen sou lun nina kial ah muta we, ac fahk nu selos
1And Abimelech the son of Jerobaal went to Sichem to his mother’s brethren and spoke to them, and to all the kindred of his mother’s father, saying:
2elos in siyuk sin mwet Shechem, “Pia kac ma wo suwos: wen itngoul kewa natul Gideon in mwet kol lowos, ku siena selos in leum fowos? Esam lah Abimelech el sou na pwaye lowos.”
2Speak to all the men of Sichem: whether is better for you that seventy men all the sons of Jerobaal should rule over you, or that one man should rule over you? And withal consider that I am your bone, and your flesh.
3Sou lun nina kial Abimelech elos aolul in sramsramkin ma inge yurin mwet Shechem, na mwet Shechem elos wotela mu elos ac eisal Abimelech tuh elan mwet kol lalos, mweyen el sou na pwaye lalos.
3And his mother’s brethren spoke of him to all the men of Sichem, all these words, and they inclined their hearts after Abimelech, saying: He is our brother:
4Elos sang ipin silver itngoul liki tempul lal Baal‐lun‐Wuleang nu sel Abimelech, na el sang moli kutu mwet lusrongten in acn we tuh elos in welul.
4And they gave him seventy weight of silver out of the temple of Baalberith: wherewith he hired to himself men that were needy, and vagabonds, and they followed him.
5Ac el som nu in acn sin papa tumal ah in acn Ophrah, ac uniya tamulel itngoul wial fin sie eot lulap. Tusruktu Jotham, su srik emeet natul Gideon, el mukena tia anwuki, ke sripen el wikla.
5And he came to his father’s house in Ephra, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerobaal, seventy men, upon one stone: and there remained only Joatham the youngest son of Jerobaal, who was hidden.
6Na mwet nukewa in Shechem ac Bethmillo elos toeni ac som nu sisken sak oak mutal in acn Shechem, ac oru tuh Abimelech elan tokosra lalos.
6And all the men of Sichem were gathered together, and all the families of the city of Mello: and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak that stood in Sichem.
7Ac ke Jotham el lohng ma inge el som fanyak nu fin mangon Eol Gerizim ac wowoyak ac fahk nu selos, “Porongeyu, kowos mwet in Shechem, ac sahp God El ac fah porongekowos!
7This being told to Joatham, he went and stood on the top of mount Garizim: and lifting up his voice, he cried, and said: Hear me, ye men of Sichem, so may God hear you.
8Sie pacl ah, sak nukewa som ac suk soko sak in tuh tokosra lalos. Elos fahk nu sin sak olive, ‘Kom fah tokosra lasr.’
8The trees went to anoint a king over them: and they said to the olive tree: Reign thou over us.
9Sak olive el topuk ac fahk, ‘Nga fin leum fowos, na enenu ngan tila orek oil, su mwe akfulatye god uh ac mwet uh.’
9And it answered: Can I leave my fatness, which both gods and men make use of, to come to be promoted among the trees?
10Na sak inge elos sifil som ac fahk nu sin sak fig, ‘Fahsru tuh kom in tokosra lasr.’
10And the trees said to the fig tree: Come thou and reign over us.
11Ac sak fig el topuk ac fahk, ‘Nga fin leum fowos, na enenu ngan tia sifil isus fahko emwem ac wo.’
11And it answered them: Can I leave my sweetness, and my delicious fruits, and go to be promoted among the other trees?
12Na sak inge elos sifil som ac fahk nu sin oa in grape soko, ‘Fahsru tokosrala lasr.’
12And the trees said to the vine: Come thou and reign over us.
13Na oa soko ah topuk ac fahk, ‘Nga fin leum fowos, na enenu ngan tila orek wain, su mwe akpwarye god uh ac mwet uh.’
13And it answered them: Can I forsake my wine, that cheereth God and men, and be promoted among the other trees?
14Na sak inge sifil som ac fahk nu sin kokul, ‘Fahsru tokosrala lasr.’
14And all the trees said to the bramble: Come thou and reign over us.
15Na kokul el topuk ac fahk, ‘Fin pwaye kowos lungse tuh nga in tokosra lowos, fahsru ac muta ye lulik. Kowos fin tia, na e ac fah sikyak ke ma fakfuk keik uh ac esukak sak cedar nukewa in acn Lebanon.’”
15And it answered them: If indeed you mean to make me king, come ye and rest under my shadow: but if you mean it not, let fire come out from the bramble, and devour the cedars of Libanus.
16Now therefore if you have done well, and without sin in appointing Abimelech king over you, and have dealt well with Jerobaal, and with his house, and have made a suitable return for the benefits of him, who fought for you,
17Esam lah papa tumuk el tuh mweun keiwos. El pilesrala moul lal sifacna in molikowosla liki poun mwet Midian.
17And exposed his life to dangers, to deliver you from the hands of Madian,
18Na misenge kowos forla lain sou lun papa tumuk. Kowos uniya wen itngoul natul fin eot sefanna. Na ke na sripen Abimelech el ac ma wiowos, mweyen el wen natul Gideon ac mutan kulansap se kial, na kowos oral tuh elan tokosra lun acn Shechem.
18And you are now risen up against my father’s house, and have killed his sons seventy men upon one stone, and have made Abimelech the son of his handmaid king over the inhabitants of Sichem, because he is your brother:
19Inge, fin ma kowos oru misenge nu sel Gideon ac sou lal an kowos oru ke inse pwaye ac wo, na lela kowos in engan kacl Abimelech, ac lela tuh elan engan pac keiwos.
19If therefore you have dealt well, and without fault with Jerobaal, and his house, rejoice ye this day in Abimelech, and may he rejoice in you.
20A fin tia pwaye, lela e in sikyak kacl Abimelech ac esukak mwet Shechem ac mwet Bethmillo. Oayapa lela e in sikyak yurin mwet Shechem ac mwet Bethmillo ac esukulak Abimelech.”
20But if unjustly: let fire come out from him, and consume the inhabitants of Sichem, and the town of Mello: and let fire come out from the men of Sichem, and from the town of Mello, and devour Abimelech.
21Na Jotham el kaingla nu Beer ac muta we, mweyen el sangeng sel Abimelech, tamulel lal ah.
21And when he had said thus he fled, and went into Bera: and dwelt there for fear of Abimelech his brother.
22Abimelech el kol acn Israel ke yac tolu.
22So Abimelech reigned over Israel for three years.
23Na God El oru tuh mwet Shechem ac Abimelech in asrungai, na mwet Shechem elos tuyak lainul Abimelech.
23And the Lord sent a very evil spirit between Abimelech and the inhabitants of Sichem: who began to detest him,
24Ma inge sikyak in akfalye ma koluk ma Abimelech ac mwet Shechem elos tuh oru nu sin wen itngoul natul Gideon ma elos uniya ah.
24And to leave the crime of the murder of the seventy sons of Jerobaal, and the shedding of their blood upon Abimelech their brother, and upon the rest of the princes of the Sichemites, who aided him.
25Mwet Shechem elos sap kutu mwet lalos in som wikla fin mangon eol uh tuh elos in sruokilya Abimelech, ac mwet inge elos pisre ma lun mwet nukewa su forfor in acn sac. Pweng ke ma inge sonol pac Abimelech.
25And they set an ambush against him on the top of the mountains: and while they waited for his coming, they committed robberies, taking spoils of all that passed by: and it was told Abimelech.
26Inge, Gaal wen natul Ebed, ac mwet lel elos tuku nu Shechem, ac mwet Shechem elos filiya lulalfongi lalos facl.
26And Gaal the son of Obed came with his brethren, and went over to Sichem. And the inhabitants of Sichem taking courage at his coming,
27Elos nukewa illa nu in ima uh ac eisani grape, elos orala nu ke wain, ac orek engan. Na elos utyak nu in tempul lun god lalos, ac mongo ac nimnim we ac aksruksrukel Abimelech.
27Went out into the fields, wasting the vineyards, and treading down the grapes: and singing and dancing they went into the temple of their god, and in their banquets and cups they cursed Abimelech.
28Ac Gaal el fahk, “Ku kut mwet fuka in acn Shechem inge? Efu ku kut in orekma nu sel Abimelech? Ku su win el uh? Ya tia ma natul Gideon? Zebul el orekma nu sel, tusruktu efu ku kut in kulansupwal? Kowos in orekma na nu sel Hamor, mwet matu lowos su el pa sifen ota lowos uh!
28And Gaal the son of Obed cried: Who is Abimelech, and what is Sichem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerobaal, and hath made Zebul his servant ruler over the men of Emor the father of Sichem? Why then shall we serve him?
29Nga ke in nga pa kol mwet inge! Nga lukun lusulla Abimelech! Nga lukun sap elan akola mwet mweun lal ac ilme kut in mweun.”
29Would to God that some man would put this people under my hand, that I might remove Abimelech out of the way. And it was said to Abimelech: Gather together the multitude of an army, and come.
30Ke Zebul, mwet kol lun siti sac, el lohng kas lal Gaal inge, el arulana kasrkusrak kac.
30For Zebul the ruler of the city, hearing the words of Gaal, the son of Obed, was very angry,
31El supwala mwet utuk kas nu yorol Abimelech nu in Arumah ac fahk, “Gaal, wen natul Ebed, ac tamulel lal elos tuku nu Shechem ac oru eltal in tia lela kom in utyak nu in siti uh.
31And sent messengers privately to Abimelech, saying: Behold Gaal the son of Obed is come into Sichem with his brethren, and endeavoureth to set the city against thee.
32Inge kom ac mwet lom an tuku ke fong ac wikwik in imae soano.
32Arise therefore in the night with the people that is with thee and he hid in the field:
33Ke lututang, ke faht uh tufahna takak, kom tuyak ac lain siti uh. Ac Gaal ac mwet lal fin illa in mweun, kom fah oneltalla nufon!”
33And betimes in the morning at sun rising set upon the city. And when he shall come out against thee with his people, do to him what thou shalt be able.
34Na Abimelech ac mwet lal nukewa elos tuku ac wikwik sisken acn Shechem in fong ah — elos kitakatelik nu ke u akosr.
34Abimelech therefore arose with all his army by night, and laid ambushes near Sichem in four places.
35Na ke Abimelech ac mwet lal elos liye ke Gaal el illa tu ke nien utyak nu in siti uh, Abimelech ac mwet lal elos tuyak liki acn elos wikwik we uh.
35And Gaal the son of Obed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city. And Abimelech rose up, and all his army with him from the places of the ambushes.
36Ke Gaal el liye mwet inge, el fahk nu sel Zebul, “Ngetla liye! Mwet pa tufoki fineol an me!” Zebul el fahk, “Mo, tia mwet. Lullul in eol uh pa kowos liye an.”
36And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul: Behold a multitude cometh down from the mountains. And he answered him: Thou seest the shadows of the mountains as if they were the heads of men, and this is thy mistake.
37Na Gaal el sifilpa fahk, “Liye, mwet pa tuku fineol an me ingan, ac sie u ah tuku ke innek soko sisken sak oak ma mwet susfa muta we ah!”
37Again Gaal said: Behold there cometh people down from the middle of the land, and one troop cometh by the way that looketh towards the oak.
38Na Zebul el fahk nu sel, “Pia kusen tungak lom ah inge? Kom pa tuh fahk mu, ‘Su win Abimelech uh ku kut in orekma nu sel?’ Pa ingan mwet ma kom tuh aksruksruki ah. Fahla mweunelos.”
38And Zebul said to him: Where is now thy mouth wherewith thou saidst? Who is Abimelech that we should serve him? Is not this the people which thou didst despise? Go out, and fight against him.
39Na Gaal el us mwet Shechem ac som mweunel Abimelech.
39So Gaal went out in the sight of the people of Sichem, and fought against Abimelech,
40Abimelech el mutawauk ukwal Gaal, ac el kaing. Pukanten mwet kinet ke inkanek ah, som na nwe sun mutunpot in siti ah.
40Who chased and put him to flight, and drove him to the city: and many were slain of his people, even to the gate of the city:
41Abimelech el muta in acn Arumah, ac Zebul el lusulla Gaal ac tamulel lal ah liki acn Shechem, tuh elos in tia muta we.
41And Abimelech sat down in Ruma: but Zebul drove Gaal, and his companions out of the city, and would not suffer them to abide in it.
42In len tok ah Abimelech el lohngak lah mwet Shechem inge elos pwapa in som nu in ima ah.
42So the day following the people went out into the field. And it was told Abimelech.
43Na el eis mwet lal ac kitalik nu ke u tolu, na elos wikwik in imae soano mwet ah. Ke Abimelech el liye ke mwet inge ilme liki siti uh, el tuyak liki nien wikwik uh ac onelosla.
43And he took his army, and divided it into three companies, and laid ambushes in the fields. And seeing that the people came out of the city, he arose and set upon them,
44Ke Abimelech ac u se lal ah yuyak in taran mutunpot in siti uh, u luo ngia elos mweuni mwet su muta in ima ah, ac onelosla nufon.
44With his own company, assaulting and besieging the city: whilst the two other companies chased the enemies that were scattered about the field.
45Mweun uh orek ke len nufon sac. Abimelech el sruokya siti sac ac onela mwet we. El kunausya siti sac ac afinya fin fohk uh ke sohl.
45And Abimelech assaulted the city all that day: and took it, and killed the inhabitants thereof, and demolished it, so that he sowed salt in it.
46Ke mwet kol lun acn Shechem su muta ke tower lun mwet mweun ah elos lohng ke ma inge, elos suk nien wikla ku lalos ke tempul lal Baal‐lun‐Wuleang.
46And when they who dwelt in the tower of Sichem had heard this, they went into the temple of their god Berith where they had made a covenant with him, and from thence the place had taken its name, and it was exceeding strong.
47Ke Abimelech el lohng lah mwet inge elos wikwik in acn sac,
47Abimelech also hearing that the men of the tower of Sichem were gathered together,
48na el ac mwet lal elos fanyak nu Fineol Zalmon. El eis tula soko ac pakela lesak se ac filiya finpisal, ac fahk nu sin mwet lal elos in oru oana.
48Went up into mount Selmon he and all his people with him: and taking an axe, he cut down the bough of a tree, and laying it on his shoulder and carrying it, he said to his companions: What you see me do, do you out of hand.
49Ouinge mwet nukewa elos pakela kais sie lesak lalos ac fahsr tokol Abimelech. Elos yolsani lesak uh ke acn in wikla ku sac, ac esukak. Mwet uh mutana loac, ac elos nukewa misa — sahp oasr sie tausin mukul ac mutan we.
49So they cut down boughs from the trees, every man as fast as he could, and followed their leader. And surrounding the fort they set it on fire: and so it came to pass that with the smoke and with the fire a thousand persons were killed, men and women together, of the inhabitants of the tower of Sichem.
50Na Abimelech el som nu Thebez, kuhlusya acn we ac sruokya.
50Then Abimelech departing from thence came to the town of Thebes, which he surrounded and besieged with his army.
51Oasr sie tower na ku in acn se inge, ac mwet nukewa in acn sac, mukul ac mutan ac mwet kol lalos, elos kaing nu we. Elos sifacna lakelosi ac fanyak nu fin mangon tower sac.
51And there was in the midst of the city a high tower, to which both the men and the women were fled together, and all the princes of the city, and having shut and strongly barred the gate, they stood upon the battlements of the tower to defend themselves.
52Ke Abimelech el tuku nu ke tower sac tuh elan sruokya, el kalukyang nwe ke srungul uh tuh elan esukak.
52And Abimelech coming near the tower, fought stoutly: and approaching to the gate, endeavoured to set fire to it:
53Na sie mutan el sisya eot in ilil na lulap se nu fin sifal twe foklalik ahlunsifal.
53And behold a certain woman casting a piece of a millstone from above, dashed it against the head of Abimelech, and broke his skull.
54Na Abimelech el sulaklak pangonma mwet fusr se su us mwe mweun natul ah, ac fahk, “Faisak cutlass nutum an ac uniyuwi, tuh nga tia lungse mwet in fahk mu mutan se pa uniyuwi uh.” Na mukul fusr sac faksilya ke cutlass natul ah, na el misa.
54And he called hastily to his armourbearer, and said to him: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest it should be said that I was slain by a woman. He did as he was commanded, and slew him.
55Ke mwet Israel elos liye lah Abimelech el misa, elos folokelik nu acn selos.
55And when he was dead, all the men of Israel that were with him, returned to their homes.
56Ouinge God El folokin nu sel Abimelech ma koluk se el tuh oru nu sin papa tumal ke el tuh uniya tamulel itngoul wial ah.
56And God repaid the evil, that Abimelech had done against his father, killing his seventy brethren.
57Ac God El oayapa folokin ma koluk lun mwet Shechem nu faclos sifacna, fal nu ke ma Jotham, wen natul Gideon, el fahk ke el selngawelos ah.
57The Sichemites also were rewarded for what they had done, and the curse of Joatham the son of Jerobaal came upon them.
