1For all this I laid to my heart, even to make clear all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it be love or hatred, man knoweth it not; all is before them.
1A cungkuem he ka lungbuei ah ka dueh tih a cungkuem he ka boelh. Aka dueng neh aka cueih khaw, a bibi khaw Pathen kut dongah ni a om. Lungnah khaw, hmuhuetnah khaw hlang loh amih hmai kah he boeih a ming moenih.
2All things come alike to all; there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner, and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
2A cungkuem he a cungkuem taengah a om vanbangla, aka dueng ham neh halang ham khaw, aka then ham neh aka caih ham khaw, rhalawt ham khaw, aka nawn ham neh aka nawn pawt ham khaw, aka then bangla aka tholh ham khaw, olhlo bangla toemngam aka rhih ham khaw hmatoeng pakhat ni a om.
3This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event unto all; yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
3Khomik hmuikah aka thoeng he cungkuem dongah thae coeng. A cungkuem ham he hmatoeng pakhat la om. Hlang koca rhoek kah lungbuei khaw boethae hah tih amamih a hing vaengah amih thinko ah anglatnah om. Te phoeiah a hnuk la duek uh.
4For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
4Tedae u khaw hingnah cungkuem taengah kaibaeng tih aka sun uh te tah pangtungnah om. Ui pataeng khaw amah a hing vaengah tah sathueng aka duek lakah then.
5For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
5Aka hing rhoek long tah a duek uh ham te a ming dae a duek long tah pakhat khaw a ming uh moenih. Amih ham thapang khaw ming voel pawt tih amih poekkoepnah khaw a hnilh uh coeng.
6As well their love, as their hatred and their envy, is long ago perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
6Amih kah lungnah neh amih kah hmuhuetnah khaw, amih kah thatlainah khaw paltham oepsoeh coeng. Khomik hmuiah a thoeng vanbangla a cungkuem dongah amih kah hamsum tah kumhal duela om voel pawh.
7Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God hath already accepted thy works.
7Cet laeh, na buh te kohoenah neh ca lamtah na misurtui khaw lungbuei then neh o laeh. Pathen loh na bibi te a doe oepsoeh coeng.
8Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no oil.
8A tue takuem ah na himbai te a bok la om saeh lamtah na lu dongkah situi te khaw vawt boel saeh.
9Enjoy life with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which He hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity; for that is thy portion in life, and in thy labour wherein thou labourest under the sun.
10Whatsoever thy hand attaineth to do by thy strength, that do; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
10Na kut loh saii hamla a hmuh boeih te tah na thadueng neh saii. Na pha ham koi saelkhui ah tah bibi neh poeknah khaw, mingnah neh cueihnah khaw a om moenih.
11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
11Ka mael tih khomik hmuiah he loehlangnah khaw kapyang ham pawt tih caemtloek khaw hlangrhalh rhoek ham moenih, buh khaw aka cueih rhoek bueng ham pawt tih khuehtawn khaw aka yakming rhoek bueng ham moenih, mikdaithen khaw aka ming rhoek bueng ham bal moenih, te boeih te amah tue neh a yoekam bangla thoeng tila ka hmuh.
12For man also knoweth not his time; as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
12Te dongah hlang loh amah tue te a ming van moenih. Boethae kah ngoi dongah aka man nga neh pael loh a tuuk vaa banglam ni a om. Amih hlang koca rhoek tah boethae tue loh a hlaeh tih amih te buengrhuet a tlak thil.
13This also have I seen as wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
13Khomik hmuikah cueihnah he ka hmuh vaengah kai ham tah te te len coeng.
14there was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it;
14Khopuei he yit tih a khuikah hlang te a yol vaengah tah manghai puei a paan tih a vael phoeiah tluum len a sak thil.
15now there was found in it a man poor and wise, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
15Te vaengah a khuikah khodaeng te hlang cueih la phoe tih a cueihnah neh khopuei te a loeih sak. Tedae hlang loh khodaeng te tah hlang la poek pawh.
16Then said I: 'Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.'
16Te dongah, “Cueihnah he thayung thamal lakah then,” ka ti dae khodaeng kah cueihnah tah a hnaep pah tih a ol te khaw hnatun uh pawh.
17The words of the wise spoken in quiet are more acceptable than the cry of a ruler among fools.
17Hlangcueih ol tah aka ang rhoek aka taemrhai kah a pang lakah mongnah neh a hnatun uh.
18Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.
18Cueihnah he caemrhal kah hnopai lakah then dae pakhat kah tholh loh a then muep a phae.
